    This original volume was published by Hurricane Press in 1997, written by Joshua Dysart and drawn by William O'Neill. A black and white prologue to the Violent Messiahs story and originally meant to be part of 3 issue series, only the first issue was release. Image picked up and published an eight issue VM series in 2000, written by Dysart and drawn by Tone Rodriguez, and later released a four issue series, Violent Messiahs: Lamenting Pain.
