Hello, Villain. Are You For Hire?
THE GOOD
I thought the introduction to each of the characters and their roles was great. I really like the concept of one man orchestrating specific villains for specific tasks. It felt very much like a Ocean's Eleven type scenario (except things didn't work out so smoothly).
I thought that the one-by-one introduction of Misty Knight's team thwarting nearly every move the Villains for Hire were making was great. It was obvious that she had planned this out Ocean's Eleven style just like Purple Man.
Art - Very nice. Well drawn, classic characters looking great with a bit of a "new shine".
Writing - Again, very nice. I loved the twists and turns - it was great to unravel the story as it was being told. I think it was the head-shot that won me over though, I did not see that coming!
THE BAD
It was too short. :) Well knowing that it will be wrapping up in three more issues does make me feel it could be rushed, but I am not going to jump to any conclusions.
The only other thing I could think that bothered me a little was the interaction between Purple Man and Headhunter. It didn't feel like how I imagine an argument between these two villains would pan out... too much talk, not enough force.
THE VERDICT
I highly recommend this issue (and likely series - we will see how it goes, but it is off to a great start!)
Heck, it is only a 4 issue mini-series, so why not right? In all actuality though, this issue is worth picking up. I loved how it was from the villain perspective, very different than the usual super-hero vs. villain book. I felt like I was reading a bunch of money-hungry cut-throat characters in a GTA type universe.
