Greg Saunders
Before becoming the first Vigilante, Greg Saunders was a country singerin New York, who returned to his home in Wyoming when his father was killed helping the sheriff of his town fight off a group of bandits. This action of his father compelled Greg to fight crime the same way, and so was born the Vigilante. It was to long after he started his fight against crime that he gained a side kick named Stuff the Chinatown kid. His crimefighting sprees mostly took place in that of New York City, where he aquired a base, and went on many adventures solo, and with his sidekick. He was a member of one of the first superhero teams: the All-Star Squadron. After the end of the Golden Age of comics, the Vigilante was seen much until the All-Star Squadron appeared again with the Justice League of America in the 70's. The Vigilante proved himself worthy of the team even though he had no superpowers. Vigilante appeared in the series Worlds Finest, and was eager to fight along side his old sidekick, only for stuff to be murdered by one of the Vigilante's old enemys. He acquired a new sidekick in the likes of Stuff's son who was trained by Richard Dragon. Since then, the Vigilante has had several guest apperences throughout the DCU. All though, he has retired on several occations due to his wife and 2 kids.
Adrian Chase (part one)
Adrian Chase is a New York district attorney whose family was killed by mobsters. It is after this that Adrian decides to seek justice in his own way as the Vigilante. As the Vigilante he made sure he didn't kill he would regularly use non-lethal weaponry while crime fighting.
This changed when he allowed a police officer to die as a direct result of his actions. Afterwards he became more and more violent and cared less about who got caught in the crossfire. As Vigilante Adrian was a violent crime-fighter but in his civilian life he became tormented by his actions. Eventually Adrian quit being Vigilante, believing that he could be both more effective and also more happy as a judge. This did not work.
Allen Wells
After he quit his friend Allen Wells took up the mantle of Vigilante without Adrian's knowledge. Allen was even more violent as Vigilante than Adrian. This caused Adrian to track down and kill the new Vigilante. He does just that only to find out it is his best friend Allen.
Adrian Chase (part two)
Chase became more guilt ridden after the death of his friend. His civilian life and Vigilante life became more blurred when he tried to cover up the fact that Allen was the Vigilante.
Dave Winston
Adrian's bailiff was the third person to assume the mantle of Vigilante. He however refused to kill. Winston himself would not be so lucky as he was murdered by Peacemaker while attempting to stop the hijacking of a plane.
Adrian Chase (part three)
Adrian once again assumes the role of Vigilante. He felt that it was the only way to protect his loved ones. The first thing he does is seek revenge on Peacemaker. Adrian however has been out of the Vigilante business for to long and when he finds Peacemaker he is beat and unmasked on live television due to being out of shape.
This of course kills his secret identity and forces him to stay as the Vigilante. Adrian become more sickened with himself and falls depression, paranoia, and violence as he becomes more and more unbalanced. Vigilante being killing anyone who gets into his way even police. Near the end, he even resorted to murdering innocent police officers who got in his way. He eventually is unable to take the guilt anymore and commits suicide.
In death Adrian ends up in purgatory. He helps battle the guardians of the realm, so heroes can escape with the soul of Hal Jordan.While fighting the new vigilante for the first time during the issues of Gotham Underground, Nightwing sais "but Justin Sutter is Dead" giving the impression that Nightwing didn't know of any vigilantes after Sutter.
Patricia Trayce
The next Vigilante was Patricia Trayce. She was a cop who met and fell in love with a fellow officer named Paul. The two married but Paul got killed in the line of duty and shortly after that Luis, Pat's partner, was killed also. Even though she toook both deaths hard she grieved more over her partner Luis. Pat became frustrated with the city's revolving door justice system. When mob assassin Jeremy Barker became a federally protected witness Pats was angry. She didn't understand why considering that he was the man responsible for the death of her partner. With her attitude changing Comissioner Gordon had to suspend her. She would later become a rogue cop who teams up with Deathstroke as partners and lovers. Trayce finds the gear of the Vigilante and adapts the mantle. She is trained by Deathstroke, and soon starts to working alone.
Justin Sutter
Justin Sutter encountered a murderer as a child. This causes him to have his name changed to Justin Scott Powell. Eventually Justin would also become the Vigilante. Only he dose this subconsciously. He is eventually able to reconcile the two personalities.
New
A new Vigilante first appeared in nightwing #133 and his identity is unknow, but it has been confirmed that it is not Justin Sutter, who was last seen fighting with Wild Dog and the Crimson Avenger in Infinite Crisis #7.
Gotham Underground
The new Vigilante shot dick while he was in a disguise. He later fought batman but was defeated.
