Purple is my 2nd favorite color after black and I'm neither vain nor royalty. Maybe it's my inner villain trying to escape

Purple is associated with vanity and royalty, thus, it appeals to many villains' egos. Green is the color of greed, envy and money, which appeals to a villain's motives.

@g_man: I see. Was curious. Should have figured that happened.

Yes, Sir, I know but it'd be cool if he did still work for CV. He's quite entertaining...like you...but more...hrrmm...evil..

It's because they aren't prime colors. Heroes wear prime colors like red, yellow, and blue because our brains for whatever reason are wired to process them with positive thoughts. Spider-Man, Superman, captain america, iron man, etc, even classic batman wore blue.

@decept_o: a lot of comments on the old videos got lost when we switched to a new video player. Something like that happened. RedLAMP isn't working with CV anymore but he has been keeping busy.

Man, it was great re-visiting this video again. Unless he's been operating covertly on the site, I do miss Red L.A.M.P. here.

I recall mentioning about the Skrulls when this was posted but that comment must have been removed somewhere along the line I guess.

Skrulls...super villains with green skin and ( usually ) purple costumes.

@Crimson Orchid:
Actually, the purple/green combo has to do with the old style "four color press."   I'll confess that I don't really know why they called it "four color," since there seemed to be more than that (and I'm going to be lazy, and not Google search it), but the idea was that the heroes wore one color scheme, so the villains wore a color scheme that contrasted to the hero.  Superman and Spider-Man wore the red and blue, so Lex Luthor and Green Goblin wore the green and purple.

(I'm assuming everyone already knew this, but I'm just putting it out there in case some of you didn't.)

I think it's just basic colour theory.  Different colours make you feel different things.

Both Green and Purple are secondary colours, and both tend to be darker on the spectrum.  Pick any two of the three secondary colours, and they will probably look alright together.  But orange tends to be too happy of a colour for a villain (It's a colour that really stands out, so it would be used on a loud and/or obnoxious type of character).
When I think of green, I think envy, greed, money, power, etc...
When I think purple I think vanity, pride, royalty, and again, power, and etc...

So, I think they use the green and purple combo because:

  • they coexist well together and create appeal
  • they are darker colours and, let's face it, you see that combo and you think "Villain".
