great vid guys ive really missed your videos your havnt been uploading many lately
but i understand you guys are really busy

and relating to your video it is really sad to see no females characters really getting the attention they deserve

Wonder woman deserves her own show.... I was looking forward to this.... My oppinion is that this show should be caracter driven.... It should be more about Diana aspect of WW..... Her place in the world.... Something like that.... It's bound to happen, it's just a matter of time.....

ive been highly bothered by Hollywoods decision to NOt let Joss take his crack at her.

I want to see a show that is a little bit of everything ( Campy and serious ) with Grant Morrison writing the screen play and over all plot with in-put from both John Bryne and Greg Rucka .
and I would keep her in her original costume because I am a classy kinda of guy and I respect the character
a lot + I would rather go in an mixture of both live action and animated cut scenes to make it stand out from everything else out there right now on the market .but if you think my Ideal is crazy let me know :D

but this is the way I would do it and I would have also cast Babs in the leading role (well if I was running the show but can a guy dream for things not asked for , and all I want is an decent wonder woman series one a
little bit better than smallville and the cape .) besides I love wonder woman and her rogues gallery they all so well layered and 3 dimensional and fantastic and I belive that is what is lacking on TV nowadays
fun and action packed shows with well known and strong woman characters besides it`s only fair that
she gets some kind of well deserve star treatment instead of being cast as a second banana to batman or
superman . I say please give the spirit of truth a break and let her take the lead .
besides the 1950s is over and women should be treated better in all media .
( and this is from an admire of wonder woman ) yeah call me crazy if that makes you happy besides I truly believe that a live action should would greatly boost wonder woman`s popularity and sales if they were smart that is but that is neither here nor there . anyways let me end this ramble and say Babs would make a great wonder woman (live action or animated series ) and I hope that this helped :D
and long live wonder woman (that is if Grant Morrison does not kill her off anytime soon :D)

I agree 100%
The networks are scared. I mean, come on! It's time to move forward! Smallville's in the past now...they should defo broaden their horizon.
Oh and not forgetting Charmed, the longest running show with all female leads ;D

Posted by moffattbooks

I remember the original Wonder Woman show and was too campy like 60's Batman for me.  I think there's 2 key reasons she's not on tv at the moment:

1.  Numerous other shows have strong female leads already, it's not breaking any new ground

2.  Comic book shows are a narrow niche and networks are probably weary of comic book/superhero shows already to take a risk on Wonder Woman

I was an Alias fan and a Buffy fan so I'm fine with a WW show but lemme finish that Supes show first

Edited by FoxxFireArt

Do people really know who Wonder Woman is? Babs' 30 Seconds bit at  NYCC kind of showed few people knew much about her, and that was from comic fans. Even the woman dressed up as Wonder Woman had a hard time.

There are a LOT of TV shows not getting made for all kinds of reasons. One of the larger ones I blame is the "reality" TV genre. They are incredibly cheap to make, but I almost universally despise them all. I do enjoy Dirty Jobs.

As far as figures go, there is an enormous cultural change when it comes to anime. Female figures are the major force next to mechs. I hardly ever see figures of male characters unless the series is really big.

I know Babs has often discussed her opinion on the villains being the more interesting aspect of a story. Could it be one of the things hurting Wonder Woman is a lack of a more iconic rogues gallery? Anyone off the street could name a couple of villains of Batman and Superman. How many can name Wonder Woman's greatest villains?
Though, I also wholeheartedly agree with her view that the movies based on superheroes that are doing the best do have more grounding in reality and are less fantastical.

I do find it surprising how hard it is for writers to make stories for Wonder Woman when you have such a rich history based around her in Greek mythology. The people who made God of War took that mythology and made a wild story.
I always hated the idea of the Invisible Jet.

I don't know if it's really so much about the costume. Smallville managed quite a few seasons without showing anything remotely similar to the suit.
I remember when the Justice League Unlimited animated series was having it's final season and they gave Wonder Woman her own private episode? Even that couldn't stay away form the Linda Carter campy feel. This animated episode even had that spin in place transformation scene.

An articla I read at superherohype.com suggests David E Kelly is still optimistic.
I can't see why we wouldn't see a new WW series soonish.

You would think that HBO or Showtime would make an Wonder Woman show, too build up an bigger audience.

Posted by Icemizer

Wonder Woman is a tough cookie to put on the screen. Her rogues gallery is weak unless you start bringing in all the mythic aspects of her character and that can get confusing to the general audience. If you dont bring in the mythic characters you are stuck with who really? Cheetah? Doctor Psycho?(I personally would love this one), Silver Swan? Of course you could and would need to create villians to fight her but coming up with the villian of the week will be tough.
Now what about her non hero identity? What does she do when she is not Wonder Woman. Detective? Reporter? Home maker? Or do we just remove that all together and have her be the Ambassador from Paradise Island to mans world. I think the last would be by far the easiest and allow the best character development. No need to hide who she is and the characters at her embassy can become the secondary players of the show. The embassy also becomes her base of operations.
I think Womder Woman could work if the right staff created the right ideas. The show could be done fairly cheaply and I think would draw pretty well from both male and female demographics. Hopefully it gets done.

@FoxxFireArt:  all I have got to say is your right . American cinema and TV has gone down the tube and wonder woman has a large but small following and nobody knows jack about her background .
and I know she does not have the worlds greatest rogues gallery like the dark knight or the man of steel but at lease she has some . anyways all I am trying to say is your the better man and that your answer is the best and only reasonable conclusion to this fine predicament .  besides mind if I ask you this question if you was running the show to produce the show what would you do ? (just a curious question not calling anyone out there or anything ..just want to know what you know no harm no foul just a little info into what you would do since my ideal is just too unlikely and will never ever happen in a million years because nobody outside of comics does not care about the charater but who am I do digress ) I will be awaiting your answer soon  :D

Regarding a live-action Wonder Woman TV show, honestly, I don't care about it happening; I am more interested in a Wonder Woman MOVIE first.

If that succeeds, then I think talk of a Wonder Woman TV show would be more viable.

Sara touched upon the animated version of Wonder Woman which to me is possibly the best incarnation of the character, all comic books aside.  She is right, if that version could be translated into a movie, man, then I think it would be more than likely talks of a Wonder Woman TV show would float around again.

No invisible jet for the movie, that has to be said.  No camp.  IF a movie ever gets produced, that is.  I am keeping my fingers crossed, I think it can be done.  I would love to write the script and pitch for a Wonder Woman movie!
Posted by kapitein_zeppos

I don't think the lack of a Rogue's gallery is a huge problem.  Find the right actors and you can have any kind of villain made memorable.   Most series don't have the background WW has and have to make their villains from scratch, and we have plenty of memorable ones like Gul Dukat, Sylar etc ...

My own take is to keep WW in the background and focus on side characters that help magnify the effect WW is having on the world.  Leaving Diana Prince to deal with street level problems.  This solves your costume/budget problem and helps preserve the myth of WW.  She would only headline the show if a big crisis happens and makes it something people would look forward to.  WW in small, carefully adjusted doses might do the trick.

Posted by Danial79

I think you guys were right about the fantasy aspect. Superhero shows/films need to be grounded these days. The old school camp of the old WW and Batman shows are long-gone. I don't think many people are interested in Greek Mythology either. Just look how poorly the recent Clash of the Titans did. They'd probably have to reboot her origins to make them more "modern". Superman, although still fantastic, is still readily accepted because aliens are still popular.

Posted by Outside_85

Think you hit it spot on with the lack of relaterbility Diana has. I mean, she's a superhero 24/7 95% of her time/history. The only recent break in this was her job as a secret agent, and lets face it, you dont make her more relaterble that way. It would be like if Superman's civilian identity was James Bond.

But yeah, she deserves a movie or a series.

Realism is not the key it is the willingness to take an idea to it's limits Wonder Woman and Superman are not too old or unrealistic but need to grow and change.

The problem with Wonder Woman was that networks did not want it it says more about the networks at the moment than anything else ABC would end up being a Marvel network CBS and Fox could not comprehend it in their demographic CW is too cheap and supports failing teen shows and NBC is in flux and did not want a major show at the moment. These problems were about them.

With Wonder Woman even though her face has been around a long time people do not understand her she is a concept that is almost dated people who like Wonder Woman are connected to her as a character not as a concept and others outside her fanbase do not understand the attachment and let's remember it was only in recent years through DC Animation mostly that she reappeared in the public eye too many others her last thing was the show in the seventies ironically if she had some show it might get more people back into it.

I would say make the series like Xena to show her life as an Amazon and the fights and trials and then have one of those trials near the end of the series to be be going to the outside world.  The amazonian war gear would be easier to depict but have no idea how to get the regular costume in the show, i think they would have to come up with something new.

she is to hard to make interesting shes a wack hero anyways

I agree with Sarah 100% animated remade perfectly into a live action would be fine. after reading this: http://egotvonline.com/2010/12/23/christina-hendricks-wants-to-play-wonder-woman-welp-im-sold/ I thought things were moving forward, I guess not.

As much as I like the character, she doesn't have that many great villains... If WW had a show, what would she actually do? - Even G-Man and Babs had WW fighting zombies, instead of her doing something like Batman and Superman have done in any of their shows.

Posted by Gambit1024

I'd give it a chance. I'm not a huge Wonder Woman fan, but I definitely would've given this show a chance...

And for the record, WW could definitely take on a bunch of zombies ;)

why cant they make one show i mean really BTW babs u look awesome i especially like ur boots

Posted by GundamHeavyarms

I'm not a big wonder woman fan, I think the problem with her is is that she's in "superhero mode" 24/7. She doesn't really have a day job like Superman and Batman do although bruce seems to be in superhero mode more than clark.
If it were up to me, A Wonder Woman show should balance action and humor with a little drama and intrigue, like Chuck, or No Ordinary Family.  That way the writers of the show could even out her personality so she can convey strength without coming off as stiff and humorless like she does in comics sometimes.
This would also help her to be relatable to viewers.

Posted by weapon154

TV isn't worthy of her.

Posted by Tainted-Cell

To non-comic-readers, Wonder Woman is to be avoided.
No one knows anything about her, apart from her gawdy bathing-suit costume. I wish this wasn't the case, but realistically, people really are that shallow.
To me, Wonder Woman is Susan Eisenberg from the Justice League cartoons. I'm not a fan of the character, but I respect her in the same way that I respect Superman. As a Star Wars fan, I liken the big three to Luke Skywalker (Superman, a farmboy who left home to make something out of his life), Princess Leia (Wonder Woman, a princess who has been given the impossible task of an ambassador to "Man's world"), and Han Solo (Batman, a rogue who likes to do his own thing).

To me, the best way to re-introduce Wonder Woman to the masses... not the readers... is to give her a live-action role in a series NOT her own. The only problem here is.... there are too many characters to bank on for the executives to compress into ONE show. And if Batman can take in the same (if not greater) amount of viewers, then why take the risk?

Honestly, if the average guy drove past a comic book store and saw some poor over-heated soul dressed as the Martian Manhunter waving a sign to promote sales.... would he be able to identify him? J'onn is my favorite character in the DC universe, but the likelihood of him getting his own show or movie within the next decade is just too small. His original costume is impossible to adapt without getting some laughs (heck, even Brightest Day has decided to give him some pants), the budget needed to get his powers illustrated would be substantial. He could be one of the coolest characters ever brought to your tv screen, but executives don't know what to do with him either.

So apart from the obvious sexism, really the main problem is convincing the guys in charge that Wonder Woman's show would be necessary, and if so, how?

Posted by Nova`Prime`

Most likely the only way you'll see a Wonder Woman tv show is if its sorta like Smallville. But then again its not really a WW show, just like Smallville wasn't really about Superman.

Posted by Vitality

I think this is what happened.

They changed her outfit in the comics...in hopes to have a better outfit to use on screen.

Then for some reason...perverts who would rather see wonder woman in next to nothing complained about her new outfit and insisted she went back to her regular bikini.

Since all the backlash about the new outfit came about...they had to put the tv show idea on the back burner because there is no way they are going to make a tv show with wonder woman in her original bikini outfit.

@Icemizer:  eah wonder woman is definitely hard to write for, everything about her is fantastic,(by fantastic i mean steeped in fantasy, not awesome) her powers, her morals, her costume, and it won't relate to most audiences, if /i/ were to write it, i'd focus on Diana Prince, and her job as an FBI agent or whatever she is, have her fight human threats like Captain Nazi, make cheetah less into a savage half human, half cat and more into a human who has been experimenting with genetics and has given herself superhuman strength and agility, Dr. Psycho can be a mad man experimenting on innocent people. however this version of wonder woman (like the silver age powerless wonder woman) might be criticized by fans. so if that doesn't work, i'd make a show more like Xena, have her ONLY be in the mythological world, fighting against threats like Circe, Ares, etc, you can make ONE half of her be realistic, Diana Prince OR Wonder Woman, but not both

Im of the people who may recognize Wonder Woman but dont know anything about her aside her name and that she is an amazon , but who are her villians ??? What makes her tick??? Also her new costume is awesome , and I would like to see a show were she kicks Supe's ass (I hate Superman and its good to know he got his ass kicked by a woman ) . Also theres been a great strong female lead show , XENA , and it was awesome

Posted by Mtti

Haven't read the former comments but on the budget side they could look at how "Smallville" managed it in the beginning, on terms of fantastical origins, if scripted well could be easliy handled.

I'm sure it must be a "studio reason" as to why it did'nt make it I mean by having David E Kelly on board already ups the anti and with the success of Smallville (10 seasons) how can it not be possible??

And if its coz she's a woman then humanity just took 10000 steps back in evolution..

Edited by sora_thekey

I agree with Sara, if the animated movie were to be the source of making the TV show, or even the movie, the networks would have a set story. The animated show was a serious story but it had it's moments where you would laugh.
(I actually think the same thing if a Doctor Strange movie was ever to be made.)

Um fine with wonderwoman's whole look but i hate the invisible jet XD that's my only wonderwoman pet peeve
I think a wonderwoman show could work, they may not be able to use her traditional costume but it could start with her leaving her home and going off to a new city and her struggles to blend in to a society where men are usually your boss.
Then introduce her mythology with different villains, her learning her origin and so on

Posted by BallsMonkey
@The Stegman: Wait, how does that make sense.  Her powers are too fantastic?  Is she any more out there than Superman and Spider-Man, and Green Lantern?  No.  You can have Diana Prince and Wonder Woman.  The argument that she's to fantastic in nature is just absurd and completely full holes.

While Wonder Woman is an amazing character, I would honestly watch the show, but.... As i'm sure alot of guys will agree, that there are already action shows with a strong female lead. Nikita,Alias,Jessica Jones, etc. I would love to watch the show after or before Smallville. unfortunatly Smallville is at it's end, which means we men have yet another hero type show off the TV to watch, leaving us with Supernatural and The human target. The cape doesn't seem to have the staying power, and despite having some action, it's kinda boring at time, and may not last. Honestly, there aren't many shows in this action hero genra for us men, and adding another female hero action show come along may not transition over well.

Maybe once some of these other female shows drop off then maybe Wonder Woman can step in,but as of now, there are just oo many. I mean honestly we guys honestly don't have many shows on networks like CW. Instead of a show i'd love to see a Wonder Woman Movie staring Jessica Biel! But only if she gains weight and goes back to her sexiest, like she was on ( I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry) That was her body at it's best. Or Charlize Theron, her height ans size are good for Wonder Woman.

I could easily tell you Wonder Woman's origin at any time without having to look at of it up. It's not that hard, but I was baffled at how no one could get it right that the convention when Babs asked them. Found the video.
Despite that, I really can't name off but many two Wonder Woman's villains, and I've never really seen how Cheetah was much of a threat to Wonder Woman.

" besides mind if I ask you this question if you was running the show to produce the show what would you do ? Okay,....here is the biggest predicament I can see to a Wonder Woman TV series of her own. First and foremost we need to look at who the character is and what she is at her core and where those skills are most needed. She is a warrior. Now, let's look at Superman and Batman.

Superman is the ultimate hero ideal, a super powered nice guy and a boyscout. He is placed in Metropolis, a city often attacked by super villains. He is right where he's most needed.

Batman is the ultimate detective. He's placed in Gotham City, a city filled with violent crime and corruption. The police can't handle it, so, Batman has to do it. Again, he's right where he's needed most.

Wonder Woman is a warrior. She may not be as strong as Superman, but she could still kick his ass if needed because she is the far more experienced warrior. The problem in making a Wonder Woman series is where do you put her? Where are the skills of a warrior needed in a modern day setting? It's not as if a warrior is all she is, but you need to show her being a warrior from time to time. The same way you need to show Batman solving crimes and Superman being.....super.

Probably one of the only reasons Smallville has lasted as long as it did was because they added villains in to allow Clark to show off his super powers without having to hold back. People who posed a serious threat to him. All the older Superman shows never did that. In that sense, I guess Babs is right about villains to a story. Hero characters are put where they are needed. So, where would she be needed?

I think Thor suffers from a similar problem. He's also a warrior. Though, he's getting a movie now. It should be interesting to see what they do with his character. I'm not so sure the movie could really last the way Iron Man can. Thor is eventually going to be fighting against Loki's forces and not something man made.

sweet leg in the background!

I don't know, the idea for a show is solid, but it seems like doing it, and doing it justice, would be extremely expensive.  Look at the  heroes in the media now, they all take place in a city, which is an easy set to get, or a farm, which is probably even easier, but finding something that could be used as an island paradise, which is where half of the wonder woman story, or the origin at least, needs to take place, but that's just me.

Posted by guardiandevil801

I would say i say true to the character and keep her original suit and show her learning about the people and men so she could understand them and add her rogue villians allies and her other equipment. The hardest thing would be finding a good actress to play her,but that how I would do her if I did a show for Wonder Woman.

First I want a WW movie more than a TV show.  I almost feel like a TV is doing her disservice because she has never had a good big screen adaption and the last attempt was way back in the 60s.  That said if they did make it a TV show this what I would want:

Wonder Woman TV Show Recipe

  • Do not under any circumstance do it on CW.  Aside from Supernatural everything on CW is Tween, vacuous and boring.  I would rather see it on cable because then they would be free to be more adult and most good cable shows go for quality over quantity.
  • Her costume has to be the variant on the original costume with genuine armor elements to reflect the fact that she is a warrior. Putting pants on her to me is either being prudish or a sad attempt to masculinize her.  The DC Universe Online design is perfect with or without the cape.

Example:
DC Universe Online Design

  • The story needs to be both grounded in reality with good writing but without depowering or modifying her superhero persona.  Think about the real world challenges that she would face in her private life. There is a writers goldmine dealing with Diana dating and dealing with men weaker than her.  I would like to see stories that balance the personal story with superhero elements on a 50/50 mix.
  • You know the other story element that would be a goldmine for good writers would be how does a near deity like person handle everyday life concerns and interacting with regular people.
  • Do not cast her in Linda Carter mold.  WW needs to be sexy but just as important she needs to be someone that is physically capable and can convey a warrior spirit.
  • No invisible plane. WW can fly what is the point of the plane?

That's just a mix of classic wonder woman/superman/xena.

All that is on the minds of network executives is accessibility and marketability. Wonder Woman and the gamble making a show about her would entail was probably difficult for most networks to visualize because it didn't look like it could provide a bang for your buck, so to speak. When it comes down to action series, the general impression is that people want a minimal plot, cool stunts, and maybe a half-assed soap opera on the side (see Nikita).

But here's what I think, I think that although people have moronic tendencies (voting Katy Perry the next Wonder Woman in recent a fan-poll, for example), they also do like to have their intellects challenged and they do like to see good storytelling regardless of whatever stigma the genre has. The movie Salt, very generic, very action-heavy, little plot was beat out by Inception. Inception was more cerebral, more involved, you had to focus when you saw it but you came out having experienced something more than you would with Salt. Two years ago when Iron Man came out it was definitely good but Dark Knight kicked it's ass. Why? Because though it was a very involved movie, though it had a lot of subplots, it didn't talk down to it's audience and it took the franchise seriously enough to make it believable.

If someone could believe in Wonder Woman enough to see her as more than the pageantry of Lynda Carter's series and carve out a good, hefty plot for her then the series could potentially be excellent. And who knows? At one point or another that could happen, I really hope it does. I'm thinking that with this wave of superhero movies there will be a lot learned in terms of what to do with this sort of franchise because I imagine people will begin to tire of the guy-gets-the-girl action series and they'll actually want more from the genre.

Posted by Luthorcrow
@Vitality:  And how is that bad?  First off bringing actual armor elements is not limited to Xena and many variations of her costume has had this over the years.  I think going with the armored skirt keeps the iconic look without going the route of attempting to make WW look like a Batman knock off as her current, train-wreck of a custom does.

Scratch the Sups reference as I did say with or without the cape as it is in that character design as well.

Good points in the recent Wonder Woman videos but.... we do not even have a quest of Wonder Woman at Comicvine so.....  I would like to start at home first.

I would like to see a TV show with her in it. Bad news she got cancelled even before the show start. She deserves better, she is fun and interesting character.

This has to be the best idea for the show that I've read here.  Especially with the her struggles to blend into a society where men are usually the boss.
