I thought it was ok. Can't wait to see what Deadpool's gonna contribute to the series

Edited by Jake Fury

I thought the first issue hit an absolute home run. I love the art and the team dynamic looks like its going to be very interesting.
Posted by longbowhunter

I wasnt real keen on Deadpool being in the book either, however it was nice to see him actually off some bad guys for once.  Marvel has really neutered Wade and I was glad to see a little of him come back in this issue. I too loved the art and colors. Its what made me decide to pick it up. Anxious to see how this title is going to coinside with Age of Apocalypse.

That quote from Psylocke has nothing to do with Scott, I never got that impression when I read it.

Loving X-Force so far. The team is great, including Deadpool. Can't wait till the last few members join. ^_^

Great review, guys. For someone who gave it a 4 out of 5, you didnt seem that stoked about it, Sara lol

It is interesting that as they are dealing with Warren's dark side from Apocalypse. The team is now hunting Apocalypse down.
The odd thing about the Betsy and Warren relationship is how Warren for a while was sleeping with Paige  Guthrie (Husk) who was pretty damn young at the time.

This whole switch feels hypocritical. First Wolverine wasn't into the idea of this hit squad. Now, he wants to keep it going. I just don't quite get why you need a separate book for pretty much the same team, or are they just not making the previous X-Force book anymore? I always liked Domino. So, not incredibly pleased to see her missing from this.
Just feels like another book they can put Wolverine and Deadpool in.

No flack from me. Does Deadpool fit into any team, other than the Deadpool Corp.?

and some is going to get upstaged !

If memory serves me well what Wolverine wasn't into was who was on the original squad, like Wolfsbain (cause she's a good little catholic girl) and of course, X-23. Cyclops picked most of the first team and most of them either didn't have much experience with killing or it was questionable how comfortable they were with mass murder and I think Wolverine knew that could cause problems

And I think the casualties of Second Coming (Nightcrawlers death to be more precise) justifies Wolverines reasons for keeping X-Force alive. IMO, as long as the mutant race is an endangered species X-Force will still be around.

I don't know about this... I only read a couple issues of the last X-Force... wasn't all that interested in the premise.. but this idea of taking down Apocalypse makes me want to read it!

Posted by doordoor123

I could see the x-force title going into an event eventually. The X-men right now are trying to become superheroes and integrate themselves in the rest of the marvel universe. While there is this part of the x-men acting as anti-heroes. x-force vs the avengers? with x-men stuck in the middle?
Posted by ckal

I'll check this one out. Saw a couple other reviews online 8.5/10 and 9/10 too.

Posted by Aspenite

I´m glad the art is great like in the previous series.

Posted by the_fallen11

Rick Remender    says Deadpool is on the team for a reason, according to Rick, Deadpool "Makes himself indispensable to the team" so I hope we will see that soon.

I gave this a 5. loved it.

hmmm.....i'm going to buy it in trade form. so that should be mid 2011.... :(

Posted by Hadez

I don't mind the why they changed deadpool in the fact that he isn't doing the internal talk but I do agree that he simply keeping it quit because it's not in his eyes

Posted by the_fallen11

I will also say that this is the way I think Deadpool SHOULD be written. I am not a DP fan at all and I like him in this book.

Cool happy this got a good review! Whats happening to Kyle and Yost? are they working on another X book? cuz i really hope so ha ha

@ Sara
You know I'm not a huge fan of Deadpool, but I felt that he was the best written character in the book. The interactions with him and the environment seemed more real than the relationship between Angel and Psylocke.

Going farther with that I felt that I didn't much like the relationship at all. Angel seemed a much better fit with Husk. And after re-reading X-Treme X-Men a few months back I liked Psylocke's relationship with Thunderbird (Neal Shaara). And with her return from the dead, why have they never resolved that. He grieved over her death and neither of them it seems have had contact since her return.

I did like the banter between Wolverine and Phantomex and knowing the fact that Wolverine surfs the internet brings a whole new side to him. "Google," that was awesome.

More on Deadpool. I love his joke halfway through the book about the circus, I just a little old lady tell me that joke for the first time over a month ago and hearing it again from Deadpool made me start to appreciate the character a lot more than I ever had.

I really enjoyed this first book.  Babs, you are wrong about Deadpool.  He absolutely belongs on this team.  They need someone to break the tension.  The rest of the characters are always so serious.  This book needs him to keep the story fun; otherwise it is just a bunch of brooding heroes.  *yawn*  I can read that story almost anywhere.  Deadpool changes the game.

Writing Deadpool for these team books must be extremely difficult.  Staying true to the character while keeping the book serious is tough.

Hell yeah G-Man! Definitely the best book this week.

Posted by ImperiousRix

Might have to pick this one up.  Looks really cool and, since I don't think I'm going to pick up the next X-23, I want a new X-Book to jump into.

love the book

Awesome review guys.  I absolutely loved this issue, and am really looking forward to the next one.  I realize people are ambivalent about Deadpool being a member of x-force, but I really enjoyed his portrayal in this book.  This is the best Deadpool writing I've seen in a while- it separates itself from all that multiple personality nonsense that is so prominent in other Deadpool titles..

Posted by the_orange_crush

The issue was pretty good. I do love this brand new team and what they bring to the table. I don't mind Deadpool at all. As long as he is being written well and serves a purpose, I'll enjoy reading him. He fits this book just fine and is a contrast to the dark, serious tone of the book. I love that they have Warren and Betsy back together, but as Sara said, I'd like to know how they got back together. As from that whole exchange in that scene, I don't think Betsy was addressing Scott. I think she was addressing on how she can help Warren control his dark side.

It's good that Scott doesn't know. This is a team that will go to the extreme to save the mutant race. Having them go after Apocalypse is a great way to start off the story. I also like the idea of co-captains so it balances out the power and makes for more varied missions.

I do hope they add more members though. To me, 5 just seems a bit little. Add another character or 2 at the most and it feels more complete. I would love to see Domino back on the team. She's an original member and it would be good to have another female presence on the team.

4/5

His two voices are fucking garbage.

Most people can't even write ONE Deadpool well nowadays, so to have three is uncool. With that said, this Deadpool was awesome. I feel like everyone hates him because of the saturation and is judging him based on all the recent watered down material.

Joe Kelly/Chris Priest/Gail Simone wrote the definitive Deadpool, with Nicieza of course. Read those and then tell me he's shit. In the modern day, Duane Swierczynski is amazing too. One of the best Deadpool writers.

Don't know him unless you know him.

This issue was badass.

Posted by neomech

There's only really one way to read that bedroom dialogue.  I'm not sure how Babs came to the conclusion Psylocke was talking about Cyclops.  She's very clearly talking about helping Warren to maintain control during his transformations. Perhaps Babs was distracted by Warren's pecs? ;)

Anyway, I liked it.  Good read.  Found Deadpool particularly entertaining.

Edited by Grendel

Deadpool has been overexposed and painfully unfunny for years.

He's a bit player and this is exactly how he should be written. The comic relief should be the comic relief not the headliner.

ya know i really don't really get..  the DP bashing..... like every ten seconds....., but seriously this was a great issue and DP is a great part of the team. Read it and see what i mean

Posted by The Impersonator

X-Force is a team of mutants. Deadpool is not a mutant. I can't see why they should include him in the X-Force series.
Posted by goldenkey

love Deadpool.  can't wait to read this.  I don't care about all the babies saying he's in to much, he obviously sells.  He's never been on a team and Id like to see how he plays out.

How would you know how long he's been anything for? You think he is simply comic relief, so you've probably only known him since Daniel Way. Judging Deadpool based on Daniel Way's run is essentially like watching Joel Schumacher's Batman and assuming that's how he is all the time.

Deadpool has a wealth of material that is well-written. On top of that, he has one of the more tragic, yet untouched origin tales (Assuming he's telling the truth) of all Marvel characters. There's so much of it that it even outnumbers the current wave of shit. Daniel Way has only been on it for near 30 issues. There's his original 69 issue run, there's the excellent two four-parters before that, there's the 50 issues of Cable & Deadpool and then there's Wade Wilson's War.

He's entirely capable of being an amazing character, I know this because I've read the material.

If you've been familiar with ALL the above and still dislike him, fine, your opinion. Just don't sit there telling people what role he plays in the Marvel Universe, or what role he's CAPABLE of playing when the chance is that you haven't got the slightest clue about him.

I love her to death, but that's an issue I have with Babs. All too often it seems like she is just overly critical about characters she doesn't care to learn more about. She doesn't like Deadpool, but I sincerely doubt she'd be saying that had he not suffered market saturation.

i really dislike wolverine these days. His character has totally changed from his original pacifist and he's just in everything marvel can fit him into.

I love this book. I think it is a nice continuation of the last X-Force team and had a lot of things that clicked in the first issue.

Regarding Deadpool, it may be because I am a fan of his, but I thought he was great in this book. It is going to be good to have his character to provide some levity and act as foil to the super serious characters in this book. I much rather have a wise cracking Deadpool who racks up a monster body count than a Deadpool Team Up, or an over the top Universe hopping gang of Deadpools. For me, this book is about as good a fit as you are going to get with the character-- and for the most part he was written well.

Also, I am enjoying the dynamic they are playing with in terms of Warren. I've always loved his character, and he seemed to experience a pretty great character renaissance in the last X-force book. While I echo what a lot of people are saying about his relationship with Betsy feeling like it came a little out of nowhere, I am willing to let it slide as I think it will open a lot of interesting dissections of his character as well as a way for Psylocke to remain relevant. In my opinion, she is one of the harder characters to write well as she typically gets mired down in some pretty convoluted tales-- but I think this book has a chance to do similar for her what its predecessor did for Warren.

Finally, that brings me around to Fantomex who I am glad to see getting explored further. I think that his character was also really well written in this. I loved his line about flippancy as I felt it defined his entire character extremely well. I think that he rounds out the team very well.

Warren and Betsy.... friends with benefits relationship!

I like Deadpool but he shouldn't be apart of this team! IMO

Deadpool is the only reason I'm spending my money on this book, and I want to see a darker, more serious Deadpool than in his other appearances. Funny still, but just more serious. And he's always more interesting when he's interacting with other characters.

Question:  would this be a good jumping-on point for a newcomer?  I mean, I know the events of Second Coming and stuff before it.  Nothing too super detailed, though.  I'm interested in picking up some Marvel books, and I'm thinking about starting off with X-Force and the Wolverine/X23/Daken/X-Force stuff.

I don't seem to remember him not being keen on the idea. I seem to remember him being more worried about the members who were on the team (EX: X-23 and Wolfsbane).

ok how dose angel and Psylock hooking up not make sense to you. they use to be an item back in the early to mid nineties. duh any major x-man fan knows that so thats how it makes sense you silly girl!!!

they have a history!!!

Posted by iLLituracy

This team is missing a demolitions guy...a demolitions guy who was also messed with by Apocalypse.

Gambit should have totally be on this team.

In all seriousness, this issue was one of the best this week. I also would have given it a 5/5.

There is really only one way to read the bedroom dialogue about controlling 'someone'. I admit that it's a bit confusing that they bring up Scott before Psylocke talks about tempering and reducing, but the whole ball and chain metaphor is clearly about controlling Archangel and how it's easier when Betsy is around.

Posted by Eyz

Deadpool's everywhere!...Again!

A'right!  Seems like an ok start!

Posted by G-Man
@kidwicked: We both mentioned that they were together in the past. What was "weird" was they just got back together with no mention. So many people on the X-Men have a "history" but they don't just randomly end up together years after breaking up. Heck, Psylocke and Doug Ramsey have some sort of weird "history" but they're not hopping in bed with each other.
