great :)

So, this issue has some classic dime novel quality melodrama? Does he also threaten to revoke the deed of the orphanage? When a drama series dips far too into the cliches. I think you lose the moment.

Damn, that proverbs were all butchered in this one. It's" Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.". The other is the proverb "The enemy of my enemy is my friend, ", but could also be "The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.". There are a couple variations of this one.

The whole The Road Home is rather odd how these are coming out before the actual return. It sort of takes the wind out of the sails of the real arrival moment. It's akin to really looking forward to someone coming to visit, but you suddenly hear they been in the area for a week now and never told you. They just took that anticipation of Bruce's return and cut it off at the knees.
I know they kind of pulled that with Captain America, but that seemed to be trying to get things moving for The Seige story line. This is the return of BATMAN! All due respect to Cap. Batman is bigger. He deserves better for his grand return.

lol...

keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

already corrected but....with the butchering..think it needed repeated :P

otherwise great review!

We were both familiar with those proverbs but were trying to mash them up into one.

I am definitely picking this (and the following) one up. A little exposition would be great even if it is in a bit cliched. Unless of course it just leaves you with more questions.

Again, I must say that I enjoy GM's writing, but it is difficult to put the whole story together at times. I have all the issues of this series so far, so once issue 16 is out, I will sit down and read the entire run in one sitting and *hopefully* find things I missed the first time.

I'm finally getting used to Frasier Irving's art and kind of starting to enjoy it....I also don't mind that this issue and The Road Home stuff was out before The Return of Bruce Wayne #6 since absolutely nothing has been spoiled by reading the issues...the only spoilers have came from news articles and most of the time they're impossible to avoid...we all knew that Bruce was coming back and that he would be Batman again but what we don't know is how the whole "destroy everything when he returns" plays out...obviously he doesn't destroy everything but like that was going to happen....annnnnnnnyway back on topic...thought the issue was cool...I loved those two panels where the first has the snarling pit bull charging at Damian then the next is a snarling Damian charging at the pit bull...that was great

This issue ROCKED the kids' socks as Bruce Punk'd The Black Globe.

Forget the Road Home, re-read all the issues of Batman & Robin with The Return of Bruce Wayne AND Batman #700. It's all there, who is smearing the Wayne family, who Dr. Hurt really is. How did Bruce create his own destiny but more importantly his own legend.

Bruce is Back...and there's going to be an BUTT KICKING to be delivered.

I am glad some people are enjoying this, but I honestly cannot wait until Morrison moves on from the Batman franchise. Much like RIP, there are some cool moments, but they are obscured by general confusion and Morrison's idiosyncrasies. These story lines leave me more frustrated than happy.

I know Morrison fans will say that this is a good complex storyline and the clues are all there (if you go back and read the original material he is referencing); but I don't agree. Just because something is complex and planned out does not make it good. I think a strong writer finds the sweet spot there he gives the readers enough of the clues for a good portion of them to figure it out, without giving it away.  But Morrison is more like when David Lynch is off his game.  instead of being a off-beat masterfully crafted mystery, it is just quirky-for-quirky-sake confusion.

I will never claim to be the smartest person on the planet.  But I do have a P.h.D. and Morrison's Batman stuff leaves me more frustrated and confused than perhaps any other run in the 25 years I have been reading comics.

I think Babs was struggling to remember "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Posted by G'bandit

They killed Dick just like that? I doubt it... Hes probably just lost in time now...

I just noticed that the pimp in Grant Morrison's run shows up again in this issue helping people and I just read an interesting theory online that Hurt was the same Thomas Wayne-devil worshiper from many years ago Thomas and Martha discover him and tried to help sending him to Willowood Asylum and saying he was their son to tie into Bruce's criminal brother also named Thomas.

Looks like the MAN is back!

Great issue. I was also freaked out by Commissioner Gordon's wig thing. He looks like that guy on That 70s Show.

this issue was fantastic!

Cool, MK reference! Babs knows about MK, brownie points :P  lol

Cool, sounds like a cool issue

G-Man with another cool t-shirt. You gotta spill the beans and tell me where you get them!

I'm a little put-off by Batman comics at the moment. It just seems like theres almost too much going on in the Batman universe right now with the endless amount of Bat-titles out there, plus Grant Morrison's intricate story in becoming harder to follow.  However, with all that said I'm sure its gonna come together magically in the end

In that case, I completely apologize for behaving like an ass.

Good art. Kinda creepy but that was the point I guess. Obviously Dick will be fine. It was probably a rubber bullet or something.

Was it explained somewhere why they changed the release cover to crossless?

I feel like I'm missing something. Some gigantic tell that I haven't pieced together, because I have no idea what the answer to any of those things is. I mean, I kind of get the idea that they're using Return as a way to make Batman a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way, but the rest of it is totally lost on me. Hopefully there's some sort of blatant "Okay, this is what happened, who, and why." material after this is all over, or someone to at least explain it to me.

I would love to see Grant and Frazier do something original after this.  I never really cared for Frazier's art before this, but after these last three issues, I really appreciate his art a whole lot more.  It makes me want to go back and check out Days Missing, as the reason I didn't really enjoy that was because of his art.

This issue was great, and if you go back and re-read the entirety of Batman & Robin, there's so much packed in there.  It's great how Morrison can add scope to a book like he has here.  Fantastic work.

this issue is amazin can't wait for issue 16 morrison has done it again he has made me want to read the next issue to find out who the mysterious batman is (like we don't already know) and if simon hurt is the devil or just insane which is all you can ask for in a great comic.

@CrimsonInuTears: No explanation was given. Probably just so people wouldn't get upset.

Actually, even a rubber bullet at such a short range to the back of the skull in that manner could be lethal. It could crack his skull and cause a sub-dermal hematoma. That is if he's lucky and the shock of that didn't break his neck or sever his brain stem.

@G-Man:
Should be interesting to see if Barbra actually visits Dick after he is shot. I heard they were playing around with Barbra being jealous as of late.

I just DC doesn't pull a Marvel on Grant's work a la New X-Men.

this issue was great. it was everything i expected it to be leading into it.

and  for those that are confused about the end of this issue, i believe return of bruce wayne is supposed to already be over, issue #5 was delayed by several weeks

great review guys.
 just some things to note.

that background was distracting is it possible to have the comics scanned and greenscreened ? its usually not a problem but the lightning reflected badly off the comics.

Sara looks great in the black turtle neck, Tony you should rock one too next time (Steve Jobs style)

It seems that Sara is always unhappy do be doing videos with G-Man. G-Man is my favorite person on Comic Vine, and Sara just seems to give a lot of looks showing that she doesn't want to be there. Cheer up.
