I can't seem to get excited about more Avengers... I can never place where this stuff is taking place relative to the plots going on in their own issues.
I liked the art though, I enjoy seeing the different characters drawn differently by different artists.

I think I'll still be picking this up, despite the disparity between the ratings- i love me some noh-var

towards the end i was waiting for babs to pat g-mans head and tell him everything was going to be okay

"Just to attack them without any thought of glass" Love it, want it on a T shirt.

This is the only Avengers book I'm reading, so really New Avengers doesn't effect me so much :P

But I loved this issue, I've only been reading Avengers since New Avengers #49, so yeah, I may not know all of the hardcore story arcs that happened before Disassembled and such, but I do love the Avengers and this issue was what I wanted the team to be like, I love how Bendis is going old school Avengers with this series, plus all that happened was just great. I will admit that I'm not the biggest fan of John Romita Jr.'s art, but I've been enjoying it here, although his woman do feel a little bit off, but other than that I've enjoyed his work so far on the book! :D I do agree with G-Man though, Bucky has been Captain America for a while, he would have read up on these guys before hand. Great review you two!!! :D

Also did anyone else notice this....

What is Wolverine doing to Spider-Woman's hair?!?

Awesome review guys. Even if you dont' both feel the same way about it.
It's good to see a different opinion. I am still not that keen on JRJR's art tho.

I may just have a new found love for Noh-Varr :)

Watch out Namor!

i havent read the issue yet, but before Tony said "STILL!?" on the Bucky part, i was thinking the same thing. lol.

Posted by AmazingSpiderMike

maybe Spider-Woman is a character from the Jersey Shore with hair like that?

Good review, guys even though I am not a big Avengers fan.

I liked this issue a little better than #1.  My biggest complaint was with Bendis' interrupting-ratatat dialogue.  I love how Bendis writes his solo character books, but his team books fall prey to too much banter at the expense of momentum and plot progression.

Tony's going to pay for it with his pony  LMAO.

Pony Stark shall save the day!

G-man I enjoy hearing your passion of Bucky-Cap's character, I too feel the same why isn't he doing his homework? Even in the Captain America books he is acting weird, have feeling that now that Steve is back he no longer wants to be Captain America. I don't blame him when Steve was dead (or displaced in time) he stood for the memory of a legend! but now he may as well be U.S.Agent, at least that name is currently available.

Hes not even leading the team Tony called all the shots and everyone else just seemed to follow him blindly, not to mention Simon attacking them for no reason (I mean really does he want to go back to prison), and don't get me started about the time machine thing.

So far this is proving to be my least favorite of the new Avengers titles, hope they get around to explaining whats the deal with Bucky, till then I would say this is more like a 2 out 5.

I'm a long time Avengers fan, and this series is a breath of fresh air for me after skipping the past few years of depressing Avengers. It's the first time in a long time that I've liked something from Bendis. Nice classic adventure feel.
Posted by doordoor123

I have heard SUCH harsh reviews on this issue.
Maybe its because im also not a HUGE avengers fan, but i like this and i like where its heading.
I love time travel stories (sometimes) and this looks like a pretty decent one. Sure it has a different feel to the Avengers before the Heroic Age, but this book still satisfies me.

Posted by Video_Martian

I'll check it out, but I won't buy it.

Posted by MTHarman

The very first Avenger issue in the sixties was mostly fan based, but now this issue, the Heroic Age Avengers is only fan based for Bendis, not for the fans. Thats the impression im getting from this issue and most Heroic Age Issues.

I think Avengers wise I'm just gonna stick with the Secret Avengers. Theres really just too many different Avengers books running at the minute

This was a fun issue. It was good. I like Noh-Varr's soul patch.

Secret Avengers is a better book than this, but this one is good too.

4/5

Can't say I really like John Romita Jr.'s art anymore.  I really used to dig his style, but the way it's colored and shaded nowadays just doesn't look right.

I've read the original Spider-Woman comics way back and there she was wearing a wig, But I don't know if that's the case now.

Posted by SlightConfuse

This is the weakest avengers ttle in my opinion. It really boring

Posted by sparty-dbq

I think Bendis is slipping up with his handling of Bucky and Iron Man.  Just look at their respective solo series.  The preview pages of the Cap issue that comes out tomorrow says that Bucky has indeed done homework on some of Steve's old enemies.  While over in Invincible Iron Man, Tony is a much more humble man now because of what's happened to him recently.  Neither one of those traits comes through in this issue.

wow babs gave it a five! lol. but anyways... i'm a avengers fan. and so far this series has been alright! much better then the new avengers and secret avengers! lol

Shes shooting back at him too. I guess everyones just bored waiting for stark to build his thing. But look at the size of those pizza slices! bigger than their heads.

except for the shattered windows, and damaged areas he drew romita's artwork was stomachable this time around, but i mean if you are supposed to be a comic book artist the first thing you gotta learn to do is how to draw broken glass

i'm not quite the avengers fan, im sorry but the only avenger i REALLY like is spider-man...even though he's like part time

Maybe Tony has secretly built a money making armour or his pony armour can make money

@War Killer:
strange, huh?  for some reason it reminded me of the weird stuff that would go on in the backgrounds of a Where's Waldo book...

Bravo for G-Man showing some passion about a book and a character. I like to see him advocate about a story. I can really relate to that.

He smashed through the building? The Avengers base doesn't have any surveillance cameras? Some kind of early warning about invaders.

This is my problem about heroes fighting other heroes. It's almost always a "misunderstanding" or mind control. Why can't heroes fight seriously because they really don't like each other?

Posted by Secret Identity

I'm so torn about getting this issue. I've never been a huge avengers fan. I've enjoyed them but never REALLY go into it. I brought the last issue and was totally underwhelmed..... what to do.....

Posted by G-Man
@FoxxFireArt:  Maybe because he was an Avenger before, some automated system will allow him to get near. If so, that's something they'll have to change really fast. There's been so many Avengers over the years and you never know when a character might switch sides.

I agree with G-Man on Bucky/Cap. He's a former intelligence agent himself, so he should know the value of doing your homework on potential foes & allies. Bucky not reading up on Kang seems like a serious mistake for a character like him.

Posted by The_Martian

Bendis can't write a character's personalities at all.

Posted by Freddy.Mercurial

another 5.0 vs. 3.5???  with Babs having less support than Power Girl & G-man being overly rigid again???  seriously, G-man, besides the Bucky situation, weren't u being a bit harsh???  Seems like Tony was just being his witty, bastard-self & Wonder-Man was just doing what comic book characters do:  smash stuff.  seems like a fun issue to me...

You need to read Marvel Boy and see how he should be :)

Did anyone else hate that Bucky had no clue who Wonder Man was? I mean Wonder Man was in the Mighty Avengers since Bucky has been back!
Posted by Icemizer

I think most of the hatred of Bucky in this issue is way off. This guy was a sidekick for Cap, fell into the ocean rescued by Russians, brainwashed, frozen and then thawed out when he was needed to go assaasinate someone. Upon recovering his memory he was shoved into the mantle of Captain America. So for all intents and purposes this guy has the brain of a teenager and a brain that was seriously messed with on top of that. Now you want him to be up to date on all Avengers villians and members of the many teams since the Avengers formed. He has been a little busy you know.
I did like this issue a little better than issue #1 but I have problems with how Tony Stark was written. Offering Marvel Boy a pony? What? Huh? Yea thats something Tony would say. Also didnt Stark and Doom build a time machine from pieces of their armors way back in IM #150. Seems Tony should have remembered that even with a brain reboot.

one of the most disgustingly bad comic books I've ever read in my life.

Posted by speedlgt

i thought it was a fun issue I really liked it but I totally agree I think that Bendis really doesnt know what to do with Bucky. I think he doesnt want him to be steve rogers which is the right move but hes just making him seem stupid. Do you think brubakers bucky would act this way? HELL no bucky can freaking tell maria hill and stark to go mop the floor hes a strong will leader who beat the red skull!!! not some punk who doesnt do his homework.

and while I did like the issue romita;s art is just AHHHHHHHHHHHH!! i think hes a great story teller really I do his pages flow very well and tell the story very well but the look just kinda frankly sucks
Posted by Aspenite

I agree with Babs. It was a good issue!

Posted by sora_thekey

I do think that the story on this title has been awesome, but (and I'm a sorry about this) I just don't like John Romita Jr's art...
It makes me not want to read this... but I trust Bendis on telling a good Avengers story..

Edited by remy250

G-Man, you nitpick way too much. It makes sense that Bucky doesn't exactly know everything about Kang. And are you seriously complaining about Wonder Man not caring about damaging Avengers tower?? Wow.

Posted by The_Martian
@Icemizer:  Bucky should at the very least know who Wonder Man is since Wonder Man has been a current member of the Avengers since Bucky has returned.

My biggest complaint of this issue is Noh-Varr's personality. I love that they are using him, and I don't even mind that they gave him a new name and power set. I can even buy that he is trying to be a good person. But this basic alien dialogue of , "Is that sarcasm?" is not Noh-Varr at all.

no way man it makes no SENSE that he would not do intell on an enemy. this guy is a super spy + straight up killer! hes not some sidekick nor is he young at all hes older than stark clint maira hill and spider woman! hes the guy that broke in to starks shield base and stalemated IRONMAN in his ARMOR. he defeated the red skull can almost beat cap
Bucky is straight up leathal and you dont get to be that way by not doing intel also hes a solider plain and simple moreso that stark or clint no way he doesnt know whos who in the marvel U

1.  The Heroic Age header still looks absolutely terrible on every single issue it shows up on.
2.  I have nothing against Romita Jr.'s art, but his Thor is TERRIBLE!
