reminded me of Johnny Blaze a fair bit at the start.

Be interesting to see where they go with this. I enjoyed the story but honestly I don't buy into Loeb's stuff too quickly these days. I'm not sure if the 'secondary power' is something he inherited, maybe his father's DNA was altered by somehow by the presence of adamantium. We've seen a fair degree of variation with his "children" before so I don't know.

I really like him best of the "Wolverine-ish" characters already and he has a blank slate and I'd like to see what Loeb does with that blank slate. He can go in any direction he wants.  You're definitely right about the art though, I'll probably pick up future issues just for those pencils.

maybe the second ability is due to a mutant mother?

I dont read the ultimate universe comics, but im curious about this even more so that hes in the hudson family. Does this mean hes canadian? ha ha. i never got into the ultimate universe to much just because a lot of decitions they do i didn't like. ie alpha flight being a bunch of drugies was lame. So im liking that the hudsons are in this, hopefully they do the charcaters justice this time around.

Why is the main Marvel universe called 616? The number seems really random.

I was weary on reading this one, but Loeb got me hooked on this one. I've hated Loeb's Ultimate work with a passion but this seems to be something different, let's see how he does on New Ultimates.

@Marshal Victory: I just realized those that cover looks a lot like the promo... Check out the flames, Hulk, Wolverine..
Ultimate Comics X #1

I do think the secondary mutation might have something to do with her mother...

I have to admit I liked this issue but it's not Wow-ing me.. I will continue the series because it left me with a huge question mark on account of the rest of the characters... When I thought of Jimmy's father I thought that was too easy... apparently I was right..

Plus with that ex-X-Men there it made my day!

I'm fairly certain Jeph Loeb is the devil, out to destroy all that is good in comics. However, this comic does look good, perhaps I'll pick it up.

Ah I didn't think they would go with the obvious Wolverine thing...I am disappoint to say the least but I don't read the Ultimate universe anyway.

Posted by JimmyKudo09

I haven't read any of the Ultimate Universe but this has really caught my eye so I think I will start here.

Oi. If only I had some extra money...this doesn't sound to bad.

When you see just how out there some Ultimate Universe characters can be, It almost makes you wonder if they should be getting their own profiles since their stories are so intricate. Take the Ultimate Universe Spider-woman. She may also be named Jessica Drew, but she's a female clone of Peter.

I never could get into Ultimate X-Men.

No spoilers from anyone on the secondary mutation?  Ah well... I'm just glad he's not Ultimate Daken.

He looks more like Wild Child or Sabretooth. I may check it out.

@G-Man: I have no idea what you're talking about for most of this review.

Wouldn't that count as a third mutation? Claws, healing factor, and SPOILER? Plus Kitty kind of explains the third ability with Colossus as it just being similar to his Mutant ability.

I was iffy on it. The art is really good, although I think the mother was draw pretty young, not sure if that was on purpose because she is young, but she only looks a few years older than her son.

It is interesting but they sort of explain this backstory that I really don't need. I would rather them just jump right into it and explain his history, or lack there of, with the story. Seems to me like the first 5 issues will be an origin story for each character and then them all meeting. Not exactly what I would like, but we will see.

Also the next character up does look very interesting. I think she is the most interesting of the entire bunch.

The way I heard it is that Marvel wanted to kinda make fun of DC with their Earth 1, Earth 2, Earth 3 and so on. So when Captain Britain started jumping worlds they started numbering different realities but wanted it to be something high. And they picked 616 because Fantastic Four #1 (the real start of the Marvel universe) came out in 1961 June so 616.

@PrinceIMC: The way I heard it was basically Captain Britain was jumping earths and Alan Moore needed a number to identify baseline Earth as so he just picked a random number, and he stands by it being a random number

I've also heard some creators HATE the term 616.  Oh well.

@G-Man: it's all rumors until some says otherwise

found it rather boring hope the next issue is more pleasing

Posted by Zniperking

I realized something his ability reminds me of mimic from exiles when he combined colossus steel with wolverine's claw.

You made me very curious about this issue. The next time when I go to my LCS I will pick this up.

So this is Ultimate Daken?

@sora_thekey:
Yeah kinda .Arts one of the better illustrators out their. If one looks at his work then say jim lee, macfarlne enve leifeild one should see some influance .an hes rares creditied as a influance.Of those three lee can change his style the most an i think hes mentioned art before as a inflance.

I picked up this issue only because I had such a small pull list this week, after reading it I was somewhat upset. The artwork was great but the ending just left me with too many questions that I know they won't reveal anytime soon, so I think I'm going to skip the next few issues and wait for the whole team to come together.

I thought the art was lovely, but Ultimate X wasn't the most enthralling tale. I was confused by Jimmy's lineage. I was also kind of dissapointed with one former X-Man's adulterous affair with James Hudson. It totally belies her character. I suppose that it adds a certain realism to the plot, but I also thought it was kind of lame. With Wolverine, X-23, and Daken running around, I was not too excited by the appearance of Jimmy. I'll have to reserve judgment until I read more of the story, but with the exception of the artwork, this was standard origin fare. I am interested in learning more about "Karen". Does anyone know if  Illyana Rasputin has ever made an appearance in the Ultimate universe?

I agree with you G-Man, more Art from Art Adams!

Moore made a joke about the number of alt realities in a Captain Britain book, the reference has stuck ever since

Personally, if you look back to see how "Banshee" came about in the Ultimate Universe, you can see that people who took it had different abilities than before. Prof X took it. It strengthened his actual powers, but then he grew claws, and I'm pretty sure killed a dinosaur. So Jimmy's powers, knowing the abilities of his father, and the "Banshee" history, to me, is easily explained.

The first issue was pretty good, but it didn't grab me as much as I hoped.  Art Adam's art was awesome and G-Man said there are things hidden on different pages.  It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.  I wonder if there will be a team, what they'll call themselves, and if they stay in Florida.  The last part I'm most interested in since almost everything in the Marvel Universe (616 and Ultimate) takes place in New York City.

I thought the Star Wars hologram-bit was really cheesy. The art is great. From a storytelling perspective this was bland, this is no 4 out of 5. This was all the clichéd melodrama you'd expect from a comic dealing with someone finding out about real parents/adoption. I'd make it a solid 3 out of 5.

I got it today and I love the frames, but I thought some of the colors could have been inked better for how expensive the issue is.  Jimmy is a solid character to build from.  We've had nothing but 40 year old comic characters since the 90s and I want to see Marvel invest in Jimmy.  I felt Wolverine's presence through this guy but in a fatherly way immediately after reading the first few pages.  I think it's sad and very regrettable Wolverine couldn't be there for the kid but I am glad Wolverine himself delivered the message through the hologram.  You can look at Jimmy and feel a connection there to a young Wolverine again.  You can feel the interesting vibe this guy gives off but aside from the disgusting image where he doesn't,"feel too good."  You can tell the moment he pops his claws it's got a lot of potential.

I had mixed feelings reading this issue and I should, seeing as it's the 1st. But I don't want to run off on one of my soliloquies . . . bottom line, GOOD START!?! but I need more material to further my analysis.
