I liked this book!

Posted by SoftCoreDave

You guys! You just keep making me buy books.....kind of love you for it though. Probably doesn't help I've been sitting reading Hush tonight so really did not take much to make me buy another  Batman book, it should arrive before the weekend too :D

Sara has her mic way too far. It's really hard to hear her.

Did not like this story.
Shows every thing I feel is wrong with Morrisons run.
Reintroducing and trying sillier things from Batman history and tryin' to make them fit back in.

The heroes club should never have been brought back. I feel certain once Morrison's run is over no other writer will use them.

This is great, thanks for reviewing this! I am very new to Batmam (within the past year or so) and I recently picked up the Batman RIP trade to try and get caught up on what's going on, but I was left very confused. Some people told me that I needed to read Final Crisis for a better understanding, but that just made it worse! I will give this book a shot and hope that it will help me piece things together a bit more.

@Gylan Thomas:
Does it matter if no-one else uses them? Morrison used them for a reason in his stories, just like Jeph Loeb created Hush to be used in his story, and used Harold, the engineer, when he hadn't been seen in years. Why should he do a story worrying how other people will follow it up?

Edit: Also, I loved this trade. Despite falling at the mid-point of Morrison's Batman run, I liked it. The Club of Heroes story was great, and an intriguing use of the group - And how could you not love that JH Williams III art? The other stories aren't so bad either, save the final issue, which is crippled by the crappy art.

you have to read Batman & Son and R.I.P. to enjoy it though

great review guys, I think I gotta shy towards the hardcover for this one.
Love Grants work

  @G-Man:

Batman 666 was in Batman and Son and it skips because of the Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul arc. The set up of this is similar to Batman and Robin as they are three isue arcs that tell overreaching stories. I own the softcover and it is cheaper.

 I like seeing different opinions I like debating (not arguing) but seriously if you hate Grant Morrison's Batman so much why do you show up on so many Grant Morrison Batman threads?

lol
it the debate for me.
Plus I really don't like most of what he's done in his Bat run.

Good to see you again though Johnny.
How've yoy been?

I got Dedective Comcis: Private casebook and heart of hush about a month ago.
Both great books. :)

@johnny spam: I bought the Batman and Son trade as well (cuz I'm a sucker). I get why 666 was there but here, the two main parts don't flow together so smoothly. That's how I felt when the individual issues came out. The 667-669 just felt out of place. Maybe we'll do Batman and Son someday. Too many Batman trades...I promise Batman will have absolutely nothing to do with the next trade we review.

Batman and Son then this then Batman RIP/Final Crisis then Batman and Robin and Return of Bruce Wayne and Batman #700-702.

I started reading Batman with Batman and Robin. If you don't think that is a good idea then what would you guys recomend to maximise my Batman reading experiance?

Sara seemed a bit out of it on this one...I hope she's not bummed her country got booted out of the World Cup...

good!

Morrison's work is so intimately linked to one another that it can be really, really hard to just jump in or out.

grant's run on batman or anything writen by gm about batman is a must have !!!!

Posted by kukheart

read in proper order, everything will make sense, some issues might have to read 4 times
1. batman and son...introduces damian
2. black glove... introduces dr hurt/the devil
3. rip .... batman vs dr hurt and the black glove
4. batman and robin vol 1 everyone works for dr hurt
5. batman and robin vol 2 oberton sexton
6. return of bruce wayne
7. batman and robin vol. 3 dr hurt vs new batman and robin

Posted by robokungfu

I personally loved the Batman and some C-List heroes story.

Posted by waruikumo

So what did Morrison do during that Ostrander Gothika arc?  Just get way the hell ahead of RIP? I also agree, that the trades sorta disjoint everything.  So a certain extent Its almost better to read The black glove before batman and son (maybe).

But if your getting into this Batman era, you def need to read Final Crisis.  Other wise the End of RIP doesnt is sorta rough.  Which means you to get the whole picture it would behoove you to borrow/read/buy Seven Soldiers.  I haven't yet, but it really sets up Final Crisis, and allows you to understand, to an extent, whats happening.

Posted by longbowhunter

I've bought most all Grant Morrison's Batman run and read them out of sequence. It would be nice to go back and reread these in sequential order. Maybe one day R.I.P. will gel for me.

You guys are talking about three different trades... Which goes first?
I'm new to Batman...

That is so sad... I was rooting for Brasil... :(

I love everything Batman and Morrison. I can't wait to reread everything once Bruce returns and Batman and Robin reaches it's conclusion...

I'm definitely getting this!!!! :P

 I am confused. Sara said at the begining you wouldn't understand this unless you have read Batman R.I.P. Then they go into how this book leads up to it. Confusing.

Yeah, I got one too.... It's mad comfy. You can prob still find them at Target for $7.50

What I meant was that you really need both collections to understand. You can't just read this one alone. You have to read Grant's series as a collection. :)

I'm not Babs but I'll help
Grant Morrison is making something he's calling the greatest Batman story of all time they're are 5 chapters:
-Batman: Batman and Son
-Batman Black Glove
-Batman: R.I.P. (This and Final Crisis can be considered the same chapter)
-Batman and Robin (The whole series along with Batman The Return of Bruce Wayne can be considered  the same chapter)
-An unkown yet to be deterimed final chapter

Wait, really?  After all of the crazy $#@% Morrison reintroduced from Batman history like the Zur-En-Arrh costume, the Bat-Mite, the Bat-Radia, "Robin Dies at Dawn", Alfred being an amateur detective, Dr. Hurt claiming to be Thomas Wayne, or the Devil--you singled out the Batmen of Many Nations?

The International Club of Heroes makes the most sense of all those ideas.  They can seamlessly segue into modern stories as a darker version of Justice League International.  If we can get a Great Ten miniseries, I can't believe we can't see these guys in some miniseries.  Make it a team book, or a book with rotating characters, like Batman traveling and teaming up with the Musketeer, El Gaucho, Chief Man-of-Bats, etc. fighting some of their nemeses.  Hell, just putting Batman's name on the title would ensure it sold.

If no one touches these characters after Morrison leaves the Bat-books, it'll be a severely wasted opportunity.

I picked up Streets of Gotham; Hush Money the other day too. Also pretty good and it picks up right where Heart of Hush left off, though it starts to feel a bit disjointed as a trade toward the end.

i will admit,i ve been spending alot more of my attention getting copies of older story arcs,so im a lil behind on present storyline.but, i do enjoy morrisons work,so it seems like it should be a pretty good read.although,the fact it skips some issues is a lil confusing.

@carnivalofsins00:
Batman and Son, Batman, R.I.P., Black Casebook, Batman and Robin vol. 1, Final Crisis, Batman: Battle for the Cowl, gotta' buy 'em all- Poke-MON!...uh, I mean, BATMAN!
Posted by Big
@afierce:
Great place to start is Black Casebook. Grant Morrison took selected issues from the silver age and incorporated elements from those stories into the current conitnuity. He also wrote a preface to the Black Casebook and discusses his motivation for using the silver age stories, which  I think was wonderful! Hopfully that'll shed some light on this fantastic story-arc!

I'm kind of hoping that you two will review Batman Beyond #1. It's screaming for a review.
