There are two reason why he's got more than just the red and blue.
1) Like what was mentioned, should he need something for an occassion. Iron Man does the same as does Batman. Superman even has an anti-kryptonite suit.
2) New toys for kids to buy.

Opposed to some of the previous costume changes I can say this suit in particular serves the story and allows it to advance... which is good.
During Civil War the costume change happened because Stark (and MJ & May as a default) were worried about his safety after dieing.
The black suit was just an accident...

I say, change the suit as much as you want as long as it doesn't interferer with the progression of the story.

Same CIS that keeps Batman at street level is going to keep Pete in the red and blue.
Both are way too smart, yet get stuck in those outfits.

I dont think hes going to keep getting new suits. Itll probably be upgrades.
But we know he wont have it past march because of the Fear teasers.
PS the suit runs on children's tears...

Spider-Man's costume has evolved over the years a little, small ways.  One way I can think of:

No Caption Provided
He has a tracker in his suit so that the camera he sets up is sure to get a great shot of Spider-Man.
Instead of setting up the camera, leaving it, and hoping for the best:

I don't see why he couldn't just make a red/blue suit that does all this crazy stuff too. And hey, maybe that will happen.

i think its fun and not necessarily gimicky. even if it doesnt make sense completely its a lot of fun to have new costumes and mix things up.

on the other hand, it definitely could get old if it happens over and over again. but i trust slotts judgement, he'll handle it well.

and of coarse petes gonna dig himself in a hole and the companys gonna find out at some point which means no job or a job on his side helping him out. and lets not forget about the "secret" worker at horizon too. who knows.

I don't think they've even tried to say that this new suit is going to permanent....I think from the very get go when the suit was announced they've been saying that these new suits that he's going to be making at Horizon Labs are only going to be temporary

also I love the Civil War Iron Spider suit...the only thing that bothered me was that while Pete was wearing it it only had 3 extra legs...spiders have 8...if you take Pete's arms and legs then there's 4 so you would think that if they were playing of the spider theme with the extra arms then Tony would have given the suit 4 arms instead of 3...I guess that he realized his stupid mistake later when he gave the suits to the MVP clones since their suits have 4

I've got to agree with the point sara made, that the suit thing is a fun distraction now and again, but if you do it every few months it'll just get boring too quick.

The reason other suits have been such a big deal thus far is cause they're fairly rare. Keep it that way.

Do you think if the comic suddenly sold really well, or fans rallied behind the new look somewhat, that they would keep any change they introduced (like this new costume, the shiny armor, the Ben Clone costume, the Black Suit, or the Stark Armored Spider)?  Do you think they would make such a drastic change permanent if they thought the fans were up for it?

To me it seems like his "spider Powers" are compensating or his life style, or perhaps his emotions like when he he used to shoot organic web, whenever he was too stressed out the web would stop coming out its almost like "hey get your $#!& together or your going to get us killed!"

As far as the costume change it does not bother me much at all, like you two discussed the original is too iconic for them to not go back to it soon. I just enjoying it while its here its been a great story so far (I loved how MJ was totally cock blocking Peter when he was having lunch with Charlie, great stuff)  Everyone knows Pete takes (took) pics of Spiderman so when and if his new costume is revealed to the MU I'm sure it won't be long b4 Pete's co-workers suggest Pete made the suit for him and force Spiderman to return it, which means sooner or later someone else will be wearing it sort of like how that MVP clone is wearing the Iron Spider costume.

I remember he also had those purple webs on his back/as a cape/under his arms at some points in the old comics before the 90s.

From all these alternate looks, my favorites will always be either Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider and Miguel O'hara/2099.

I can't remember who changed their suits 1st Spider-man or Wolverine but the these 2 seem to be the characters to change thier suits more then others.  Spider-man changing to the black suit seemed like it was okay with the readers.  Don't really hear anyone say they don't like it.

Ben Reilly's suit as Spider-Man was by far my favorite design. I do also love the black suit. However, there is something emotionally gratifying seeing the old red and blue that no other look can really duplicate.

I feel this new suit making thing misses the point of Spidey, though. He's not Tony Stark.

I hated the new suit at a glance but reading the story since I have been following him for the last year I actually like this new suit. Why is it black and red on the cover and black and green in the book. The new suit has some sweet features.  With the new spiderman suit he is kinda like a Batman beyound.

I really agree. He is one of the few who changing the suit dosen't  hurt the charecter it actually often adds.

If they do it too frequently like every few months then it would get old. But the way they have done it hasn't been bad.

i think that he will continue to wear his normal suit but he will have a collection of suits like tony does.

I likes the different variations and if they want him to stick to one suit i think he should create and stick to an all new one. I think he should have stayed with the Iron Spider one but they could always have him make a new suit that looks similar to his old one but it could still have stealth and all these other new gadgets.  He could have the 4 iron spider arms pop out of pocket dimensions using Pym Particles

I think if it fits the story, costume changes are fun and bring new ideas to the table.

With this latest suit I think it has to do with the release of Tron 2 on a visual level, like they have done with the variant covers. like a subliminal advertising. I'm in advertising/graphic design so maybe im looking too deep into it but it looks that way to me. Its like when they brought back the black costume in time for the 3rd Spider-Man movie.

It is great to see the new suit. i think every superhero/comic character needs to have some cool costume change happen to them once in a while, even if it is temporary. the new spider man suit is awesome and i think that they should try to keep it for a while. everyone loves the red and blue suit, but a little bit of change keeps people's mind on the comic

As bad as that cartoon was (plot-wise, designs, etc.. the art was clean though, with those big black shadings and all), the costume itself was pretty neat.
I would love to see Pete use it in the mainstream comics at some point... better than some of those improvised real costumes he used lately..

The alterna-suits are a longtime tradition of the series. He's a clever guy and improvises suits when needed, not to mention the times he's broke and has to patch something together.

And, for the record, Spidey has customized suits for specific villains a bunch of times. He had isolated suits against Electro, for instance. And he also used to keep tweaking the webbing formula to do specific things. As long as he ends up back in the old red and blue it's all fun and games.

And it does make for cool unlockables in Spidey videogames and different action figures...

I'm think that if he has a different suit for every bad guy them he going to be kinda copying Iron Man

Also haven't seen his Spider-Sense being wonky either but maybe i just missed that

After playing the Shattered Dimensions game i've developed a fondness for the noir suit.  I think it's a nice change for Spider-man.  In the game one of the unlockable suits is actually the prototype for Noir Spidey which more resembles his classic red/blue outfit.
