Very clever that Joker was at war with Hurt the whole time not Dick and Damian.

This is very much RIP remade with new characters with Pyg in Joker's place Hurt still in the same place and Dick and Damian are Bruce they are being manipulated and defeated just like Bruce was in RIP.

Black Glove not Black Mask.

Can't wait to read that one. The run is amazing so far!

Great review, I enjoyed this book.

I read the toxic blood thing differently.  Joker says, "...my nail polish doesn't match... you don't know how tough it can be to get the right shade of of poison these days."

So it sounds like the poison is in his nail polish on his finger tips which gets into Robin when he gets cut under the eye.

@Dr. Maxwell:
then my only fear is that it will have sold out
I'll add it to the list of the 6 million things I need at the comic shop
but at the top of the list, for sure

Interesting how Pyg is upside down, just like when Damien kills him in Batman 666

I wonder if Tomasi's work on Batman & Robin will be as psychedelic or will the title be more straight forward?

spoilers.....................

I concur! Batman and Robin's been strong all the way through, but this story arc is magnificent. Finally we're getting to see some real chaos in Bruce's absence.

edit: And yeah, I believe it's his nail polish that's laced with poison, not his blood. He's simply immune to its effects.

Em, perhaps "Pagan" is the wrong choice of word, Sara. You know that is a general term for many native (often earth-based) religions, which are still practiced by many folks today, i.e. Wicca.

The dictionary definition of Paganism refers to any religion that is not Abrahamic, i.e. Jews, Christians, Muslims.

@Babs: You should be ashamed.   Only kidding.
Do you like that Joker's blood is now toxic?

@Babs:  Great review, but what was the music that you used? I felt like Bob Ross was gonna show up and start painting Happy Trees

see i gotta disagree with you there babs, i DO think there is a lot behind Morrison's writing, but that just confuses me, i have been confused by this series for a while now, i don't know if its the writing, the art, the introduction of so many new characters or what, but im just not getting it...so like is the guy in the mask the Thomas Wayne that is possibly immortal? and WHO is this black hand? and where did the final battle of this issue take place? on a blimp? cause the artwork was colorful but not very descriptive

Short, sweet and to the point

Well, between Black Glove, Black Mask, Black Adam, Black Manta, Black Canary, Black Hand, and all the Black Lanterns, sometimes you need a scorecard to keep all this crap straight.

Hurt is probably the effect from Darkseid even Batman 702 he is referred to as the hole in the things the same that was made by Darkseid the same that killed his parents. There is also the possibility he is Bruce's ancestor a devil worshiper who sold his soul to the demon Barbatos and that is how he is alive or he is possessed by the devil. Really since it is an ongoing story not all will be revealed yet.

The Black Hand is a group he started a group of rich famous deviants who because of Joker may be dead.

They are in Crime Alley Joker says so.

yeah! its so creepy and well done. yeah, its computerized and not typical line art you get in comics, but i think it works really well. but in the issue before this, everyone looked like they were wearing helmets or masks or something. it seemed more rushed than this issue.

It's not poisonous, it was the nailpolish he used.

Also, great review, Babs, quick and to the point. Morrison's run has been phenomenal and I love that the Joker is after the Black Glove now. I've always thought of him as looking at his relationship with Batman as just a game of cops and robbers, and the BG have taken away his playmate; so now he's mad.

I also loved the ending, foreshadowing the return of the greatest character in fictional history; Bruce Wayne :D

awesome issue. Grant Morrison continues to amaze

I enjoyed this issue. However I didn't make any connection to Paganism (religion isn't my forte) so I didn't pick up on any of the Pyg stuff and just found him confusing. It got to a point where I was just skim reading his dialog because I didn't see any point reading what seemed to me to be mad ramblings. Still, I've enjoyed this series, I did actually prefer the previous issue though i think. That said I will be re-reading them back to back which more often than not makes all these Grant Morrison stories make oodles more sense.

Nice review again though :)

Pyg is totally schitzed out on drugs, but I think he was sort of alluding to Hurt being the Devil, with the sign of the Goat, and the warped crucifiction. Other than that, his dialogue was pretty meaningless.

@Vance Astro:
I don't like the art either. Especially after the awesomeness of Andy Clarke's work.
