So he keeps his job?

Posted by Teerack

The way to make aqua man cool is to have him grow his beard back. In all the different forms of Aqua Man I've seen where he has a beard hes manly and bad ass as hell. Like in crisis of two world and bat man the brave and the bold Aqua man was cool. He was also alright right in justice league unlimited.

But basically Beard = Manly coolness

Yeah, and bring back the hook hand for that matter! Peter David's version of Aquaman has always been my favorite. He was a real badass back then. I'm glad Geoff expanded more on the decision to add Cyborg to the team. I've always been perfectly fine with the decision but I know it bothered other people.

@Primmaster64: If you mean that we didn't talk about him during the interview, we wanted to focus more on the other books/characters he's writing, even though Supes is in JL.

Posted by Primmaster64
@G-Man: He does mentions Supes...briefly...but it had to do with MM...Aww... :(

The only good thing about that interview with seeing G-Mans beard. I really dislike Geoff Johns work.

WHALES! come on everyone lets call on the WHALES!

Maybe it is good that Johns is taking the point in trying to make Aquaman cool again since he has seemed to be one of the most underrated superheroes in the DCU, and with everything changing in this New 52 maybe his popularity can come back. But yes in the end its gonna be up to the readers themselves about whether they will wanna embrace Arthur Curry with open arms again. Time will tell. Kudos that GL is gonna emphasize Sinestro once again. And I read about how the first story arc for Justice League will be only "five years ago" so it will be nice to see things jump back to modern times once that arc concludes. I'm curious about the entire reasoning for supplanting J'onn J'onnz with Vic Stone though. By Johns' reasoning its to change old ways of telepathic communication with modern day technology. I guess that can make for more realism sure. I still miss MM all the more though being on the team. And darn it, now I have a craving for cereal you all, lol.

Grant Morrison made Aquaman cool as hell in JLA. The attitude.

Hell Yes they are!

Yeah, uh....Aquaman's already a cool character,

I gotta admit, I was worried (and still am) when I saw that Aquaman is getting his own series. Even with Johns writing it I have my doubts. Aquaman just doesn't seem like he can hold his own book that well since his previous series were all canceled after very short runs. I'll give it a chance though. I'm just not overly optimistic considering past history.

@Mrfuzzynutz: aha ikr

TONY !! looks like WOlverine !! Aquaman is cool and looks great in the new art.

First having Johns give readers reasons to BUY the new 52 is the same as having ANY EXECUTIVE tell you way you should BUY their product - regardless of what that product is.

Also, the only way to make Aquaman cool is to NOT envision and develop a character who's main feature is his ability to carry on a conversation with a flounder. Fish are not worth speaking to, they are stupid. Case in point: almost anyone can put bait on a hook and trick a fish out of its natural element where it can no longer breathe, it dies, and then is cooked and consumed. As soon as some alien tricks a human with a baited hook and then yanks it out of earth's atmosphere, I will maintain fish are too stupid to talk to and Aquaman is stupid for trying. Namor is the better character.

I think a much better idea for Aquaman would be someone who can assume the physical capabilities of ocean creatures (jellyfish poison, electric ell shock, whale strength, dolphin speed etc.). Sort of a male version of Vixen that can only work with sea creatures - derivative maybe, but a lot better than the original.

Posted by GundamHeavyarms
@MrCipher: That would just make him a watered down (pun intended) version of Animal Man.
Aquaman's powers are similar to Namor's except he can't fly.  I used to think he was lame too, but he's actually pretty cool.
Posted by G-Man

And I hope everyone (Geoff included) knew I was kidding about Aquaman. I like the character and don't think he's not cool. I just wanted to mention him on a seahorse.

Posted by TheOptimist

Agreed, keep the beard.

Great job! This got me really excited, I really liked the response to the inquiry on cyborg... I like the feeling of 'upgrade' that they're giving him in the comic. When you think about it, the point Geoff made about him being connected to everything... that is some pretty hardcore stuff! The ultimate resource center, and he is an action character on top of all that... it will be really neat to see the progression of that character.

And who doesn't by the cereal spin-offs? You just gotta try 'em. Even in cereal habits Geoff can't go wrong by me. :-p

Great stuff, wish there were more CV vids.

I think Aquaman has always had huge potential to be awesome, but the mood of the books always felt like they were written for a younger audience, like a Little Mermaid for boys (don't get me wrong, I love Disney). Like if you read Aquaman, you wouldn't tell anyone. With a retelling of the hero, this time around, I think there's a much greater opportunity to touch on a more mature plot. I've always loved the character on potential alone. If DC can keep the stories fresh (like this Trench race they've been teasing that has me so intrigued), I'll be hooked.

I really wish you guys would bring back Unscripted.

Sorry, but the Jim Lee redesign of Aquaman in Justice Leagues looks like they are trying too hard for him to look "bad-ass".

I mean, the Wolverine side-burns, seriously?

The jewelry and necklaces didn't help either.

Yes, my Wolverine sideburns make me look more bad-ass than I did when I had a hook for a hand.

So basically the new 52's = all heroes are now all bad-asses.

Superman is a kick-ass first ask questions later, Aquaman is the new Wolverine, and up next bad-ass Flash!

DC's New 52:

so excited!

Okay, I'm going to be completely honest honest here, i've been Marvel over DC ever since i've started reading comics. But this whole reboot might just convert me.

Also, @Trodorne said:

WHALES! come on everyone lets call on the WHALES!

We can't call on them, Abridged Nappa killed them all.

Posted by christopherwalken

The New 52 is just like The Old 52, but louder, brighter, in slightly different packaging, and marketed in a way that is even more aggressive. Yay. Long live Capitalism.

Ok is it just ME.... Or is G-Man TRYING TO LOOK LIKE LOGAN...???

The HAIR.. The slight Attempt at Growin Muttonchops... The previously unseen lumberjack look...

LMFAO..wow..dude snikt!ed it it one!!

Geoff Johns is who DC needs, he's an excellent writter, and with Jim Lee on the art...Man you got to have this one!
