 First!!

Great review as always, guys. When Blackest Night first came out, I was really digging the concept and the explaination behind all of the revived characters.  I'm not sure if its the direction the series has taken now, or the time between issues (not including tie ins) but now this book makes my head hurt and i wish it would end ASAP. I think there's waaay too much going on now.

Hmm could not get the player to work in i7 , firefox or chrome.Odd.
Posted by G-Man
@Marshal Victory: Try a hard refresh (F5). It wouldn't play on safari until I did (and it worked on another computer). I uploaded (and tested) on Firefox.

Seriously, I don't have money to go out and get all the new Blackest Night comics and comics every week! Plus, I need to worry about the non-Blackest Night stuff.

I was dissapointed with the end of this issue. I really wanted Hal to become the all-powerful one. He is the greatest Lantern in the universe, not Sinestro!

How am I supposed to concentrate on the review when I'm about to pass out from blood rush to the jumby because of gorgeous Babs?

I want to take you on a romantic date, Babs.

What city do you live in?

We could have a nice candlelit dinner and then go for a moonlight walk on the beach and talk about comics.

Or maybe we could go on an afternoon picnic. We could sit under a tree and read comic books to each other and share a delicious vanilla ice cream cone.

Then afterwards you can relax by the fire while I give you a hot and sensuous massage with scented oils.

 It could be so good.

The Guardians have not been sympathetic or likable characters for a long, long time.  They also got their little blue butts handed to them in the first issue of the series.  Why would the death of this one Guardian be so significant?  All it was was a plot device.

Posted by Quintus_Knightfall

Its just a black screen. I would love to switch to HQ if it was an option lol. Can watch it just fine (without switching or hard refreshing anything) here.

on topic:

I think the following being will play a vital role in the conclusion/continuation of Blackest  Night and possibly on to Brightest Day.

That was a good but very wird review.

Ivan Reis is fantastic. Every issue has been on time, the quality of art hasn't dipped or wavered, and this issue he really had to draw a lot. My hat is off to the man.

I really wish Scarecrow could permanently keep his ring. Gah, he's been great.

That character, that you guys didn't say the name of, has been Geoff's best job in his entire GL run.

Great review, guys. Very fun to watch.

I'm fairly new to comics, starting to collect singles about two or three issues into Blackest Night, and I'm ready for this even to end. With all the turbulence of the event I can't wait for Brightest day so I can actually get into DC without having to follow all the different events and sub-events.

Not to mention the atmosphere of Blackest Night is so thick and dramatic, bleh, drowning in it.  Hope Brightest Day will have some newbie friendly arcs involving the big hitters.

Or maybe I'll stay with the wacky fun that is Marvel after they realized why Deadpool was so popular.

SUGAR my arse!  i saw babs rubbin' her nose at the end!  tell tale sign!  Babs is SO naughty!  hahahahahaha!

Posted by Mooned Knight

Yo G-Man and Babs,

Love the reviews!

But I was wondering why you omit ALL the names and information? If the issue is already out I want to hear about the spoilers. It's frustrating to watch when you say, "Oh, but we can't mention THAT name" or "You won't believe what happens..." etc. Just let us know.

I'm more likely to jump on a title if I hear everything that happens. It's 4 or 5 bucks as opposed to 50 or 60 for a  videogame or 16 or 20 for a movie...Give it to me!

I don't think I've ever seen two people try to dance around key plot points and story elements for over ten minutes while reviewing a book ---until now. That was entertaining on so many coffee-fueled and spolier-avoiding levels.

And you're both right; Blackest Night 7 is great and the ending leaves so much up in the air for the climax in issue 8.

Posted by FoxxFireArt

I'm with Babs on this. Not giving some reaction to something as big as a Guardian dying sort of reduces it to the level of a Red Shirt.
I actually liked Miranda in Mass Effect 2.

Brightest Day could have an almost "Divine Punishment" vibe for the sins that have tainted the world. In a way could almost be more dangerous and less forgiving then Blackest Night. If the White Lanterns have been away for so long and never gotten involved. It must be massive for them to actually do something now.

This is just a wild speculation on my part, but what if the duty of the White Lanterns is to wipe out all darkness in the universe. As if they are sort of the universe's way of restarting. No one is truly all good. Everyone has some darkness in their heart. I do wonder what would be their guiding emotion behind the rings. The Black Lanterns seems more about manipulating the emotions of others.

LOLWTF?!

When I first picked the issue up, it felt thicker.  Like it was some 48 page action.  Only to realize that the last 8-10 pages were ads for that stuuuupid New Wave b.s. that will come and go like the wind.  There could've been so much more in this issue.  If #8 of 8 has an ad for some new series, I will rampage...in my brain, in anger at DC.  That's been the problem with the series for me, too much b.s. on the last pages that NEED story content other than a chapter and verse from the Book of the Black.  Ugh.  It's not Johns' fault.
Posted by MichaeltheFly

G-man you were right.

Posted by Archetype

It was a good issue I love the way things went down. Finally got to see more of Black Hand the most underutilized character in this whole thing.I like the "twist" of this issue and the character that was involved...I like him but I do not by any means admire him and I think most people will agree with that sentiment, he is by no means "good".I wish we got to see more of the entities involved with the corps.Overall I agree with the score but disagree that there was too much action.

I am honestly wondering how many people like the Green Lantern mythos just because Geoff Johns is writing it. I hear lots of people say how they were not fans of certain characters till Geoff Johns writes them  then when he leaves the fans leave to so who knows what will happen with GL when Johns leaves.(even Gman says in this review that he did not like Ray Palmer before then liked him when his Tie in by Johns came)

Loved seeing the guardian cry at the beginning.

I couldn't really concentrate on the video do to being overwhelmed by
G-Man's ever present beauty. I'll trade you the entire run of Sleepwalker
for one night out at Fazoli's (my treat of course, but keep it under nine
dollars) just so i can pretend we're living out a soul mate fantasy of mine...

okay, actually i cant see the video. got a black box even after i tried various
resets and refreshes. i think its a Firefox issue, and moreso with all the bugs
in the current build of that than this site.

Nice review guys

About the big secret that Geoff has placed in Green Lantern history. As I read in another review it's works perfectly because the Guardians have been known for keeping secrets and being deceptive so it works for them but it also works for another big part of GL history as well, which you probably already know.

Well so far every Crops. has pretty much attempted to go overboard with the emotion that they stand for look at Love they lock you away until you submit to the power of love, Red, Orange, Yellow and Black are not afraid to show their true colors. Even Green has gone over the edge in the named of justice If it wasn't for the honor Lanterns things would be much worst.

So I wouldn't be surprised if in the Brightest Day the White Lanterns get carried away with the removal the darkness, why stop with just the Black Lanterns there are villains, maniacs, and murders to be delt with as well, but as we all know that's not how Earths Heroes handles things.

Posted by Fleonix

This whole story sounds so interesting....... It a shame i didn't started reading it from the beginning......I hate reading things in the middle so I just never bothered picking Blackest Night up, I kind of regret it. =/

@Fleonix: go grab the back issues ASAP!!

Why would they do that? Black Lanterns stand for death.....That White entity seems to stand for life (based on what was in the issue). Even Nekron hasn't been shown to be evil...he just wants everything to die and go back to "peace." It's not like its personal for him or anything.
