People hardly ever age in standard comics once they reach a certain age. I've been saying this for a while. Batman has been around for about seventy years. When Dick Grayson joined as Robin he was a rather young boy. Now he's grown into a full man (who messes around with other girls). Tim Drake came next as Robin. Again a young boy who is now a teenager. All this time, Bruce hasn't really aged a day. It always seems that once in comics you reach about early to mid thirties you stop aging.

While I do agree that Alfred is a lot more of an interesting character then Jarvis. I disagree with Babs that Alfred isn't a butler. Of course he's the butler of Wayne Manor, but he is also family.

"Money....Honey"????

I like the Jarvis in the movie. It further isolated Tony and shows how little he has in the way of emotional connections around him. It plays up just how important Pepper is to him.

I'm glad you shared this. It was quite funny. I had no idea Babs was so "giggly". Easily amused as well.

@timrothsays: This all took place while we were doing the Trading Views: Demon In A Bottle review. It didn't really fit there but Ana felt it was too good to leave on the cutting room floor. Think of this as a sort of behind the scenes look.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the One More Day storyline, did i seem like Jarvis had feelings for Aunt May?

Don't quite get why Babs was laughing so much, not that I mind, but is due to Jarvis' name or the word "butler" or his age?  Alfred is also old so I don't quite get it, maybe I am just out of the loop.

That was actually first seen when Parker joined the New Avengers.

I just wanted to point out that in Invincible Iron Man, the onboard computer system for the Iron Man suit is named J.A.R.V.I.S. Its not just the movie that made Jarvis a computer, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see real Jarvis in the Avengers movie.

I see why Babs was laughing at Jarvis' age. But he's not gonna age because only a few people in the realms of comic books age. I mean, if Superman aged, he'd be way over 70 years old. Maybe even 100. Then again, I guess that was dealt with Kal-L.
Perhaps Jarvis' family have only ever consisted of butlers and maids. That must be annoying for children.

Little Jarvis: Hey dad, I wanna be a fireman when I grow up.
Dad: No you don't, you wanna be a butler.
Little Jarvis: But I jus--
Dad: I know what you said, you're gonna be a butler and LIKE IT!

I always liked Jarvis better than Alfred. Both are important characters to each book, but Jarvis seems like he has more on his plate. While Alfred has to clean up after Batman and whatever Robin is running around the team, Jarvis has been looking after an entire team of superheroes. I remember in Avengers Disassembled, one of the SHIELD agents were treating Jarvis poorly and Cap said something like, "That man is an Avenger. You'll talk to him as if he was me."

On another note, Jarvis wasn't always a butler. He fought in WWII in the Royal Air Force.

Whoa, I never thought of that... but you're right.

"I'm severly underpaid for this line of work. I wonder if Bruce Wayne at DC is hiring?"
Alfred babysits Batman and the Robin(s).

Jarvis babysits the Avengers

I love JARVIS from the movies. To me it fits better for Tony Starks movie character and it was even used in Pepper's Rescue suit.

JARVIS in the movie was just a super step into the present since now Pepper had the JARVIS program in her suit.

I do think that Alfred seems more intresting than Jarvis, but Jarvis is a more emotional character. I just bought the Avengers: Dissasembled trade and there was a scene where Jarvis tries to clean the already destroyed mansion... His response was that it was habit!

So Alfred is awesome while Jarvis is emotional, case closed!

MI6. Babs, G-Man, you are EPIC :D I couldn't stop laughing.

Alfred is a really deep character. Some writers have portrayed him brillantly. Winnick in Batman #687, for example. When I read that issue, he almost brought me to tears. Besides, he does manage a whole team of superheroes, The Outsiders. It's really interesting to see him in his many roles: butler, father figure, tutor, leader.

He seems to be around 16 or so in the JSA book.  And it wasn't StarFIRE. it was StarGIRL.

Alfred owns in every conceivable way. Jarvis has just been around long enoughh that he is calm and collected when villains crash the mansion. Alfred beats the hell oout of ninjas until his arthritis kicks in.
babs is right. Alfred is James Bond born into a family of butlers. Jarvis is just... British.

I agree with this, I personally like AI JARVIS better then normal Jarvis, I hope we'll see more of the AI in Invincible Iron Man, but like you said with Dissasembled, I have those issues and I see where Jarivs is a fun character, like when one of the soldiers begins to treat Jarvis like a nobody and then Cap tells him that Jarvis is as much of an Avenger as him and should be treated as so, that was great.

Alfred is Batman's geratest supporting character, he was there when Bruce's parent died and raised him, then when Bruce became Batman, Alfred was the one guy Bruce knew he could trust.

@Joe Venom: that was actually just a google image search pic, and it made me laugh so I had to use it!  Consiering how Jarvis is regarded in this video ("He basically cleaned and made them food."  "That's nice."), I thought it made sense to have a pic of him looking like, "What the hell am I doing here....".

ill admitt i dont know much about jarvis but from what everyone has mention jarvis is and has being a butler even if hEs a butler to the entire avengers it just means he cleans after many people.Alfred was in the military before he became a butler. He served his country then left to America after his soon to be wife left him at the alter. He cleans and cooks yes but does jarvis go the the avengers hanger/ARMORY and make sure all the equipment are working? alfred refuels the dozens of cars, submarine etc he makes sure the jet as well the rockect(yes rocket) are working and are fully equiped. But wait he does more!! got stabbed?shot? shot and stabbed? alfred will operate!! he is a voice of reasoning to batman a healthy mind telling bruce of  the line his crossing.Jarvis HAS NOTHING ON ALFRED
and on hand to hand combat Alfred beats him up.pistols? he shoots and doesnt miss.swords? im sure alfred still wins.

I understand why Jarvis was turned into a computer program in the movies, Batman Begins and Dark Knight came out and they didn't want a rich businessman who becomes a superhero and has a bulter to look too much like they were ripping off the Batman films, even though they werent.
But at least he was in the movie in some form.  Rick Jones has been cut out of the movies completely.

Funny though, Jarvis is more of a real Butler to me too than Alfred.  Alfred is like sort of a Butler but more like a secret agent posing as a butler.
