I like how Fear Itself was based off of his anti semitism. He was thinking about Hitler and got a story. I hate that hes so anti semitic. What a neo-nazi.
Hes an okay writer though.

Love him or hate him, you gotta warm to the honesty and the amount of stuff he gives away. I don't know if I'm really behind but all that stuff about plot synopsis in Fear Itself, 'Tintin-Loki' and Galactus on Asgard was brand new to me.

"Of course they would know eachother, of course they would be have been jerks to one another at a conference"  He still talking about Stark and Octavius or Matt and Tony? =P

Awesome interview.

"I hate, I hate" Hits his head against the microphone

Haha. Fraction is a really fun guy to talk to! I will never forget how he spend a long time talking to me while I was in line to get Slott's autograph during my first con. He was really cool!
As far as I can see now, he is still cool!

I really want to read Fear Itself!
Posted by SC

Why the hell is James Van Der Beek writing Marvel comics!!!!

Oh wait he is talking about Thor and not Uncanny X-Men... oh wait I am not happy with his Thor! Oh wait... he can win me over in his next arc, I feel his Thor is slowly improving... plus you can't deny Coipel's skills and how that he will help aid a story. Don't like the idea for Fear Itself, as a huge fan of Norse mythology and Norwegians I dunno, I feel the Norse stuff should be expanded upon, not retconned. Odin not as the All Father? Like saying Santa isn't evil incarnate! That being said also looking forward to the story and hope its executed well and good luck Fraction! Like Iron Fist work want him to succeed. Does seem like a nice person in real life.

Awesome interview. Matt Fraction is a good guy, I agree with a lot of what he was saying

Posted by Catman9

I think Tony could block Fraction's balls attack and take Matt down. Tony has the eye of the tiger.

Posted by BKole

Probably something my end, but whats the deal with the sound on this interview. It sounds like the microphone was underwater - The new bits I can't hear anything at all, but the old footage of Matt talking about punching G-Man in the groinal area was perfect. Whats the deal here?

Posted by batmanboy11

Fraction is awesome. 'Nuff said.

Awesome writer. I can't wait for Fear.

Hi !

Sorry but Fraction on "Uncanny X-men" is just a pain in the a...* Some pages in UXM # 522 (the return of Kitty Pryde) and # 524  (the burial of Nightcrawler) are simply the worst I've read since... I don't know... the 90's ?

Hihane washte.

*... with Dodson.

hmmm, Stark is going to build a city eh? Sounds cool. Too bad I dropped Iron Man @ issue #500 but unfortunately I'd lost interest. Plus with Fear itself coming up I wanted to make some room.

this guy is a trip.  fun interview
Posted by EisforExtinction

I think I like Matt Fraction more than the comics he writes. He seems like a pretty cool dude but at the same time I'm just not a fan.

MEHHH!

"The story wins over trivia...we write comics and stories, not Wikipedia entries and handbooks." I really like that.

Posted by zombietag

i like his thinking a lot when it comes to comics. im glad people are focused on what makes a good comic and not what sells, what seems like a cool idea, or what makes sense per se. comics should be about comics, you know? and how he hates that the industry has been "punishing" its readers in certain areas. this type of thinking is really going to improve the industry.

and okay okay. i didnt want to buy fear itself just because im sick of "big events" and reading books because theyre "important." but youve sold me. ill pick it up, it sounds fun and really great. well see how things pan out i suppose.

Nice Guy, Love his Iron Man, unimpressed with his X-Men, will give his new Thor a chance...will not read Fear Itself.

F is for Fraction, Fun, and Fear.

I hate how he trivializes continuity by making it seem as though he shouldn't be bothered with the tediousness of having to research it. He's right, it isn't the job of the fans to deceiver or recall events in such a chronological, detailed way but it is his job to well-read and to present those stories, based on years old continuity, with a freshness and likeability that does justice to the franchise.

Some of the people at Marvel become so commercial, they try to dumb everything down so severely that they forget the whole reason they have jobs, the whole reason they can cash in on these icons, the whole reason there is a Marvel is because perhaps even before they were born someone took a chance and created a bevy of those characters they take for granted. Continuity is the thread every character has been woven on for 50+ years.

Obviously, I'm an X-men fan.

I went with Mehh! earlier but you explained it beautifully!!!!! It's not punishing readers at all its making them want to find out what happened and if your to lazy to find out thats your problem :)

@pixelized: I wonder if it's something to do with my country? I'm in England and it's happened quite a few times before. Everything sounds distant and murky and I just can't hear anything at all. What was weird about this video was the current interview was murky and inaudible, but the older footage was pitch perfect.

Odd. I love Fraction as well.

@BKole: Looks like there was a one channel issue after going through the compressor. It was only playing in the left channel. It's been rectified.

Exactly! And how does Matt Fraction account for people who over time become fans and then learn a lot of recent issues dismiss continuity? From the time I started reading comic till now, my favorite writers have completely changed and so have my views because no matter what you can't help but learn more about the characters.

10 years ago, I wouldn't have cared if the movies followed the comic books yet now I feel gypped, maybe if people were given the unadulterated, chronological telling of these events they'd be even better with modern interpretation.

exactly but i mean he has a habit of just voiding someone elses work too i mean he totally ruined maddy's character continuity, i mean while the character was done semi ok as a villain the thing is she wasn't a villain at the time he bought her into the sisterhood arc and your left sitting there going so you just dissmissed Jeph Loeb, James Robinsons and few other writers character progession on a whim because you couldn't be bothered to read the last issues she was in.

I can't wait for Galactus to come to Asgard!  And, I trust Fraction as a writer enough to know it'll be in good hands.  Incidentally, until I watched this video, I had no idea just hwo many Thor related pies Fractions had his fingers  in.
Posted by Omega Ray Jay

Now I'm slightly confused, what is going to be the main Thor book?

Good job on not getting threatened by junk punching this year!

Great interview Tony. I think Matt is doing some awesome work even though the two movie tie-in games will inevitably be mediocre (please prove me wrong developer). He does have one of the best pen names in comics.

First step in recovery is admitting you're a neo-nazi.

Um i never said that knowing about him makes him neo nazi. Ive been telling everyone for years how often he brings up Hitler. I went to a comic convention and he was drawing hitler mustaches on things he autographed. And hes always talking about nazis or Hitler. Hes a nazi hugger.

Matt is a great guy guy and writer but above all that you have to take your hat of to him love him or hate him because of 1 fact...he loves to spend time talking and sharing with us the fans and lovers of comics

He's probably a superhero and a mutant, too. Well, he draws them all the time and always talking about them.

Now, let's take your logic and leave it in the garbage can where you got it from.

With that said, we all love the characters because of the history, usually. I'm all for tweaking continuity here and there when it works, but to ignore it? You're entering Daniel Way territory.

Oh sorry. I didnt mean to offend Matt Fraction's girlfriend.

Why was that kind of reply necessary? You made a ridiculous and stupid comment while leaping an abyss of logic. He speaks about Hitler a lot, thus he must hate Jews. It was stupid and you were stupid for saying it.

Despite the fact that Bendis is always tweeting about how they hang out and have each other over at each other's houses for dinner, he's an anti-semite?
