The Question is back in the new 52, but I am not sure about this.

Multiversity Comics: DC's FCBD Offering Reveals... [Spoiler]

Remember Pandora and the story at the end of Justice League #6 in which she meets with the Phantom Stranger? Well, it turns out that the two of them along with the first New 52 appearance of The Question comprise what is known as "the Trinity of Sin". Stranger is sentenced for being greedy and is transformed into the familiar character we know, while the Question is apparently an excessively evil person whose memory is wiped and facial features removed. It's all rather grim.

Well, I am happy to see a new Question, but this is just... different of what I expected, unlike the other new 52 charcaters, like Batman that kept the original concept, this is a whole new character, so, i think that it would nver be the same agian, but oh well, at least he si back, and maybe I would enjoy this character, who knows?

Yeah... I know, Vic Sage is my second favourite comicbook character, when I read the article I was a little... scared, but maybe if they use in the right what they did with character, MAYBE I would like him aswell...

facial features removed

This is what almost made me earn a Red Lantern ring, but I need to stay positive.

@Deadcool: I wish that the DCnU version the Question was closer to the Vic Sage or Renee Montoya versions, but I am still very interested in Trinity War.

I'm actually rather psyched for it. First, I'd rather have the character than not at all... and I like the modification, I find it to be a good alteration... also puts him in a rather central role, which should be exciting to see. Cool cool. Cool.

I can't say I love it, but hopefully they can write it well. If they do, it shouldn't be bad.

Why couldn't they have just introduced and original character to do this with and have The Question similar to the original concept

#10 Posted by Adnan (1037 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm indifferent on it. Not sure how much it'll affect his personality and character in the long run. I'm more worried about what they may be planning to do with Phantom Stranger - they seem to be attempting to cement his origin? Isn't him even having a mysterious origin (he had atleast 4 possible ones, if I remember correctly) part of his entire schtick?

Who in their right mind takes a street leveler and reboots him as a cosmic?

Oh well, I just want him to stay "human"...

Which one? The fact that he actually has no face and no memory, or that he is evil.

I have no idea... what I like about Vic is that he is a street level character that cares about his city and fights against regular people.

Vic is a cosmic level character....ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!

#14 Posted by Fuchsia_Nightingale (10180 posts) - - Show Bio

K ? well I'll just wait and see how it plays out

#15 Posted by The_Tree (7481 posts) - - Show Bio

I'll just chalk this up as yet another modification from the relaunch that angers me.

#16 Posted by Deadcool (6811 posts) - - Show Bio

@The_Tree: Let me guess, The Joker, Harley Quinn, One Face and Bane.

The no face and memory part. The evil, I'm kinda meh on. That part might be a good layer, but we'll have to see how it plays out.

I'm mostly okay with it because Vic was one of a number of characters that had either faded out as a consequence of death or misuse or had run dry on the line that they had been playing for him. Sometimes even characters with an excellent role, purpose and definition become sort of tired and could use a fresh start... for me, that has been a plus, particularly in the case of some like Cyborg, Billy, the JSA and now hopeful Vic. Becoming stagnant is not something I see as ideal... particularly if that stagnancy causes the eventual treatment of the character as one dimensional... I like the changes because they offer something new. New doesn't mean forever, it means new (typically most words mean what they mean). There are some pieces of "new" that stick, some that don't. If it is a major misfire, that is often almost just as good, in my opinion, because it brings the character more closely aligned with their true nature in the aftermath... that need to pull the character back to what she/he was/is. It is a pendulum swing of character.

I don't like it at all. I suppose I weird, cosmic-level Vic Sage is better than no Vic Sage at all, but still... I don't like it.

@Deadcool: Joker's face loss was definitely terrible, and I've always hated Harley since her introduction. Bane does look pretty stupid, One Face was also pretty stupid, but I can get over these two. I'm mainly angry about Babs as Batgirl and her time as Oracle being erased, the destruction of Helena Bertinelli, Blue Beetle's history being wiped, Green Arrow's history being wiped, 5 year gap, Cyborg being a JLA founding member, JLI history being wiped, lots of JLA history has been thrown out, Geoff Johns' Teen Titans run erased, the way Superman puts on his suit, skinny Amanda Waller, random race changes to characters, Martha Kent being dead, the JSA being taken off of Earth Prime, Chris Kent being erased, the Johns' Superman run being erased (including New Krypton and War of the Supermen), pointless costume changes, the dissolving of marriages, and that the Crises are said to have not happened.

Other than those things, I'm good.

Well, I guess yeah, try new things, but I want Renee just as Gotham PD if she's not the question.

Geoff Johns but then he had his brain juice sucked by the Wraiths from Supernatural.

Well, from the new 52 I am reading just the tittles that I got atracted at first sight also some recomendations from people, the tittles that I am reading are Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Batman and Action Comics, I just lost the interest in Justice League, has "something" that makes me uninterested, I want to start reading WW, but I am not sure if she is my thing...

Dropped Dark, may pick it up again down the road.Once I have the time and the resources I'll look in to Hellblazer.

I'm barely reading comics these days.

I love this! Vic Sage could equal Richard Dragon and Richard Dragon would then in turn equal Lady Shiva and thats nothing but F'N Tiger Blood in my book.

Reminds me of that time Frank Castle became a demon-hunter.

#38 Posted by VictheSage (6 posts) - - Show Bio

Well, there was some hints that Johns had some weird plans for Vic in blackest night. In one splash page there was a shot of Vic's open grave with a glowing question mark around it.

#39 Posted by DarthShap (875 posts) - - Show Bio

The Vertigo/DCU has dozens of magical beings, why pick one character who has absolutely no link to magic (pre-reboot, he even died from cancer). I am guessing DC fears people might confuse him for Rorschach but he is the original, not the copy so I found it inappropriate.

My favorite Question is from JLU. I don't know how I feel about this but at least it's not Rene Montoya anymore.

#41 Posted by csguterres (201 posts) - - Show Bio

I would love if The Question were just a conspiracy theorist that starts to investigate a lot of disconnected facts that lead him to find out about the multiverse; because of that, he would end up crossing paths with Huntress (Helena Wayne), and they would start a relationship like in the JLU...

Oh, let me go back to the fanfics, because such good things never happens in the comics...

#42 Posted by FadeToBlackBolt (23334 posts) - - Show Bio

Geoff Johns again. Ruins everything. Bloody unimaginative, ego maniacal douche that he is.

#43 Posted by VictheSage (6 posts) - - Show Bio

@csguterres: You want somthing like that, read Huntress: Cry for Blood.

#45 Edited by The Lobster (1513 posts) - - Show Bio

Being a BIIIIIIGGGG Question fan (he was the character that got me into comics) I can say this....

It seems like quite a radical change....but....it could be a good one. The Question acting as the mysterious force of supernatural nature could make an interesting read. I see a lot of possibilities so long as it's done right. I've always liked supernatural forces personified. The Phantom Stranger, The Spectre, etc. So like I said, it could work if done right.

The only problem I have....why the heck can't he speak?

#46 Posted by BatWatch (2726 posts) - - Show Bio

The Question can't speak? That's news to me.

I guess I'm one of the few who are still not on board with the whole DCNU thing. I want them to go back to the old universe, but that's looking less likely.

Anyway, the idea sounds cool, but I wish they would have introduced a new character with this background rather than destroy the history of the old Vic Sage.

#47 Posted by Beast_in_the_Shadows (430 posts) - - Show Bio

I am torn on this on so many levels. One: the Question is one of my favorite characters of all time and the though of him having a central role is amazing. However, this character seems like it will be the Question in name only. Not Vic, not mortal... He will probably be calling him self Vic Sage, but that will only be because he forgot long ago who he was and probably forgets his new personae with every era.

And really don't like who I think he will be revealed to actually be. Pandora is the Pandora from myth and it looks like they are making Phantom Stranger into Judas Iscariot, so that mean's Vic will be a figure from history/literature/myth.

He mentioned rising back into power and that the gods sentencing him would fear him like the rest of the world. That and considering he is keeping his white skin and fair hair, I'm thinking we will find out that he is actually Alexander the Great. Not really digging that idea...

@TheOptimist: I can certainly understand where you are coming from. I mean, you can only change so much about a character before it is something completely new that happens to use the same trademark. I mean, Cyborg got a new introduction but his character remained mostly the same (i.e. his past his abilities) But aside from this character having a faceless appearance (for a different reason) and the name "the Question" this character hardly has anything in common with Vic.

It will relate to Vic's Question as much as Ted and Jamie's Blue Beetles relate. Same name and both a blue bug theme, but entirely different after the fact.

My real gripe is that it is The Question getting this treatment instead of other characters who could use an over-haul. The popularity of Rorschach should speak to the fact the the Question is marketable in his original style. I mean how many Steve Ditko characters does DC even have? You don't see Marvel screwing with Doctor Strange. You don't airbrush a Van Gogh...

This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me prefer to read and buy some ol' DC comics over the current New 52-ones :(

*goes to buy some oldies on ebay*

#49 Posted by Beast_in_the_Shadows (430 posts) - - Show Bio

@PsychoKnights:

The not speaking part was referring to how in the new 52, when the "gods gave the question his faceless look, he was unable to speak, only mumbles without his mouth. After which he was quickly whisked away.

And I am also one of the few who has fallen through the cracks left by the new 52. I've given all the books with the characters I liked a try and each has turned me off for either mistreatment or under use of the characters that brought me to them. I'm going to give Ravagers a try, but I don't entertain high hopes.

"He mentioned rising back into power and that the gods sentencing him would fear him like the rest of the world. That and considering he is keeping his white skin and fair hair, I'm thinking we will find out that he is actually Alexander the Great. Not really digging that idea..."

While I, personally, would be down with him being Alexander, I don't think Question will be him, or any historical or mythological figure, as his curse is that everyone will forget about him.
