It is no secret some Vertigo Characters are locked way and haven't been back to the DCU in many many years. Some have comeback like Animal and Doom Patrol. But a Character like Swamp Thing, he comic doesn't survive in Vertigo anymore and he is not used there. Who the DCU fans like Alec back? or Keep Alec in Vertigo, give the DCU a new Swamp Thing?
Other characters locked away, Black Orchid, Tim Hunter, The Un-Men, Johnny Double, Tefe' and Abby Holland, and if there is more please add to the list.
At least Madame Xanadu has interactions with the DCU and her book shows that a Vertigo book can be young adult/teenish aged readers. The current Zatanna book I think has shown more skin then the Madame Xanadu series.
And a guy like John Constantine, could he cross-over to the DCU to be the bringer of bad omen like he did when Alan Moore was writing Swamp Thing? If so, would you de-age him or keep him old and scared?
Creator-Owned
In terms of quantity, it is much more common for characters to be creator-owned (or company-licensed) than owned by their publisher. However, in comics two of the biggest publishers worldwide (DC and Marvel) traditionally own all their characters. This page is meant to help distinguish characters that are owned by the creator from those owned by the publisher in cases where it's not immediately obvious.
what Vertigo Characters...
keep him old and scarred. That's the prick Constantine we know and love. Incidentally I think Vertigo characters should be kept from the DCU as it can ruin their themes by bringing dynamics that aren't part of what their characters are about.
" @Silkcuts: as for adding more to the list there is basically the entire cast of The Sandman including my favorite character Lucifer there is Unknown Soldier, Shade the Changing Man, Human Target (who was ruined with his return to DC this year), Wesley Dodds, etc. "completely agree. with this. DC absolutely thrashed Chance. and I like DC, but not as much as I like Vertigo.
also What do you think of Swamp Thing, I believe he would mesh well in the DCU, without being ruined.
" also What do you think of Swamp Thing, I believe he would mesh well in the DCU, without being ruined. "He appeared in the DC 1985 mega-arc, "Crisis on infinite Earths" but I think his mission and his storyline wouldn't fit very well in the grand scale of DCU events.
" @Caligula said:I Know he has been there in DC before. but I'm talking about possibly being a major part of the DCU. I'm a pretty big Swamp Thing fan. so I know he was in DC a few times. but i just feel out of all of the Vertigo Characters, he would be the most likely to get placed in the DCU, without ruining his character." also What do you think of Swamp Thing, I believe he would mesh well in the DCU, without being ruined. " , he would be the most likely to get placed in the DCU, without ruining his character. "I don't think so, his whole theme of the power of nature, the mystical symbiosis he has with the earth and the events that happened in the series. In my opinion at least, could not have transpired like they had if this were happening the the DCU.

" @aztek the lost: solid argument there. I guess it's just my preference kicking in when I think Swamp Thing should remain a Vertigo venture. "I believe he should too. but I was stating that out all the characters in Vertigo, he would be the easiest to move to DC.
" @Caligula said:WAIT A MINUTE!!!" @aztek the lost: damn man, you are like in my brain. The Show and DC's run on Target. is balls. "(insert that cliche phrase about superior-minded individuals and their hive-like properties) speaking of other characters DC decided to slap Vertigo readers in the face with: what the effing Hell was up with bringing Wesley Dodds as a Black Lantern only to let him die again? seriously, I was unamused...then again I didn't read the issue maybe it was stellar stuff but I highly doubt it...I didn't want Dodds to just be another pawn in a big arc "
the Killer was in Blackest Night. and I missed this, what issue is he in. good sir?
I hear you on that. and Man Scalped is Awesome. I have only read the first arc but. i plan on getting the entire series when I have the money." @Caligula: I'll be sure to let you know, one reason I try and read everything Vertigo is so I can properly recommend anything to someone who's interested because I know you're not going to find much discussion about something like Sandman Mystery Theatre or Scalped around here. Which is a pity, if you look in the Vertigo board you'll see several failed attempts of mine to trigger Vertigo discussion (I'm VNU btw). "
" @Caligula said:oh yeah it's awesome so far." @aztek the lost said:I won't spoil anything for you since you're already hooked but you are going to love what's to come...Casino Boogie, Dead Mothers, The Gravel in Your Guts, High Lonesome, The Gnawing, heck, it's all epic...I just love how he does the different character perspectives and establishes an entire world...plus, the violence never hurts :P "I hear you on that. and Man Scalped is Awesome. and I find even more awesome that I am, half Native American myself (Apache). Red Crow is a great character.
