Vermont is the 14th state of the Union, admitted in 1791. Previously a disputed territory between New York and New Hampshire which lead to an independent republic in 1777. Vermont is the 45th largest state and the 49th most populous (only Wyoming has a smaller population). The capital is Montpelier, the largest city is Burlington.
Vermont borders the Canadian province of Quebec, as well as the states of New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
