Vermin
Vermin is a comic book character that first appeared in Captain America Vol. 1 #272Edward Whelan was transformed by the second Baron Zemo into the hideous, beastial, rat creature he is today.
Edward Whelan was a geneticist working for Baron Zemo and Primus 1. An experiment gone wrong caused his skin to turn light pink and then grow fur, while simultaneously degrading his intellegence is that of a child. He is usually seen acting as a minion to a more prominent villain. Time and time again, Vermin has been turned back to his normal human form only to be changed back into the hideous, cannibalistic creature he is today. Vermin's is usually challenged by Captain America and Spider-Man.
When he was young, Vermin suffered a great deal from child abuse and he developed severe arachnophobia ... an irrational fear of spiders. Spiderman has stated that, because of Vermins instinct-based fighting style, he cant predict his moves, making him a dangerous opponent. Vermin has on two occasions almost killed Spider-Man, who was only saved by the timely arrival of his allies. Because of this, Vermin was targeted by Kraven the Hunter. After first defeating Spider-Man and burying him alive, Kraven proved himself superior by tracking and single-handedly besting Vermin in combat. After this incident, Kraven released Vermin as a distraction for the escaping Spider-Man and killed himself.
Civil War

Vermin was one of the many villains given the choice to join the Thunderbolts army or to go to jail. Vermin chose to join the Thunderbolts, but has since been returned to custody.
Powers
===========
Vermin has enhanced strength, able to lift up to 1,000 pounds. He has enhanced speed, enabling him to run at approximately 35 miles an hour. His senses are super-humanly keen, especially his sense of smell. His stamina, durability, reflexes and agility are all also beyond normal human levels. Vermin also have the power to control stray rats and dogs within a two mile radius. Vermin uses a feral fighting style so unpredictable that even experienced fighters like Captain America and Spider-Man have no way of knowing the creature's next move.
