    Venom

Character » Venom appears in 2798 issues.

The Venom symbiote originally bonded with Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, during his adventure in the first Secret Wars on the Beyonder's planet called Battleworld. Initially, he thought the symbiote was just an attire. However, upon his discovery, he rejected it because he realized that it was sentient. Since then, the symbiote has bonded with several other hosts, including Eddie Brock, Angelo Fortunato, Flash Thompson, Ann Weying, and even Carol Danvers. Currently, its host is Eddie Brock.

    'Venom' gets a screenwriter!

    No Caption Provided

If you are one of the many ' Spidey' fans eagerly anticipating the franchises' fourth installment, then you may be in store for some good news! According to a report by ' Variety,' Gary Ross, the current screenwriter of 'Spiderman 4' has also taken on the task of writing the script for the upcoming ' Venom' movie adaptation. Apparently, as soon as Ross completes work on the 'Spider-Man' film, then he will be taking on the reigns of the spin-off. Rumor has it that the role of 'Venom' which was portrayed by Topher Grace may be recast. If they do in fact replace Grace, who according to many 'Spidey' fans never fit the role to begin with; who would they get to play the role of the infamous ' Eddie Brock'?

Perhaps it was the Disney-Marvel deal that pushed Columbia Pictures to take advantage of the rights to the 'Venom' character?

Gary Ross has acted as producer on several films that range from the animated to action adventure variety (Big, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) and it will be interesting to see him tackle the two popular comic book characters. What do you think? Are you looking forward to a 'Venom' film?

And no, I'm not really looking forward to it, if it's the Venom from Spider-Man 3...

The world needs a stand-alone Venom movie like it needs a stand-alone Sabertooth film. It doesn't. Are the character's insanely popular? Yes, but mostly to the people who follow their respective foes. Are they interesting characters? Yes, but again, mostly because they are such excellent foils. Venom doesn't have the legs to carry a good film all on his own, and I think the fact that he didn't have his own on-going series until 2003 makes that evident. Venom is a great character to explore in doses, but he simply isn't franchise material.

Make it full CGI and about an hour long and maybe it'll be alright. Just because a character makes for a good tattoo doesn't mean he/she deserves a movie, Ghostrider made that evident enough.

I'll give you that, I don't dislike Venom, I just don't think he's worthy of all the attention and praise he gets. I really think he's very one-dimensional. He's the "Wolverine" of the Spider-Man franchise, attention-whorishly shoved down our throats, overshadowing lesser Spidey villains like (you guessed it) Mysterio or Kraven the Hunter, characters worthy of attention and with far more depth, only potential never fully reached...

I thought Topher Grace was okay. If they'd given him more screen-time on Spider-Man 3 as Venom then maybe he could've been given more of a chance to show his acting abilities.

Get a guy that fits the role in size and that can act, Venom is suppose to be HUGE!!!!!!!
Remember that Venom talks as if they were two dudes "We are Venom"
And give him a freaky dark creepy voice, not that suave gayish voice you gave him in SM3, and everything should be fine.

Oh God! First, I certainly hope not. Carnage is as narrow and bland as villains come. He's the mathematical equation for copyright infringement. Take too popular villains, Venom and Joker, combine them into one, you've got Carnage. He's a completely unoriginal rip-off. Secondly, Sam Raimi hates Venom and intended to keep the franchise to classic villains, but Avi Arad forced Brock into the films...and what happened? The film suffered. Heavily! The majority hates Spider-Man 3. What on earth makes you think Raimi would add Carnage? He’s Venom with even less depth, and that’s saying something. So finally, I just can’t see Carnage ever happening with Raimi’s name attached to the project. It’s just not going to happen. If you’re looking for a realistic choice, go Lizard.

I have BEEN excited for this movie, and I didn't think I'd hear this much about it since that first article G-Man posted about the Zombieland writers getting attached to the project. So a big fat KUDOS to G-Man for updating me on my favorite supervillain.

I already said if Mickey Rourke died his hair he could be a really good Brock, but I think the main concern for me is how Venom is going to be portrayed. I'll be honest, Eddie Brock never mattered that much to me, it was the symbiote that I thought was so cool. As long as they don't make Eddie a total whiny sissy or a horrible actor (Brock Lesnar wtf...) then I think I would have a problem.

These are my demands. The symbiote needs to be huge in muscle, TALLER than Spiderman. The symbiote needs to be funny (this is where Zombieland writers should come in) and it needs to be menacing. A scary mother. Oh yeah, and if it's set in San Francisco, my hometown, then I will die happy.

If they do make the Venom spin-off, I say Carnage should be the villian. Only other character Venom hates as much if not more then Spider-man. If not the movie will be lame. Not because Carnage wouldn't be there but because there has to be someone he really hates.

Seabiscuit and Pleasantville were good movies, so producing Venom should be good too.
Also Carnage sounds like the only villain that could square off against Venom besides Spidey.

I like Topher, too. But not as Eddie Brock. We all know Topher Grace's specialty in acting is to play a sarcastic character (like he did Eric on That 70's Show and it's how he played Brock on SM3). BUT, that's not Eddie Brock. Everytime I've read Brock in comics and seen him on TV, he's a serious and frustrated man. But it's not Topher's fault. It's the casting and producers. I just feel they're doing such a terrible job with this franchise.

Someone I can picture as Eddie Brock is Dominic Purcell. For those who don't know him, he played Lincoln in Prison Break and Drake in Blade: Trinity. I'm sure there are others who have the look and the acting skills to play Eddie Brock, but one of them I can picture is Dominic Purcell.

CLOSE, but we need something more, an actor that can portray Eddie's background with Peter and Spiderman, Lesnar would be an improvement to Grace, but  not the right guy, if they have to change the guys hair then so be it, a miner setback
