    Venom

Character » Venom appears in 2798 issues.

The Venom symbiote originally bonded with Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, during his adventure in the first Secret Wars on the Beyonder's planet called Battleworld. Initially, he thought the symbiote was just an attire. However, upon his discovery, he rejected it because he realized that it was sentient. Since then, the symbiote has bonded with several other hosts, including Eddie Brock, Angelo Fortunato, Flash Thompson, Ann Weying, and even Carol Danvers. Currently, its host is Eddie Brock.

It's only necessary, and the idea of the Chronicle director taking over the project is not too shabby.

Believe it when I see it. That's cliche but a Venom movie has been in constant announcement since prior to a Spider-man one (James Cameron) ever being announced.

Otherwise not much faith in Sony on this. R Rated character reboot would save it, but I only know they'll cater it to sell a conjoined toy lines, merchandizing swarm, ect.

But if I get a cute plush Venom that talks and tells me in a helium voice " I wuv you! I want to eat your brains! ", I'm all for whatever they do.

In good news, I finally picked up every one of my Remender Venom comics and read them yesterday. Yay!!!

Please be true! I know it will probably work out this way, but I hope that it's set in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man as well.

I feel Flash Thompson's Venom is the way to go. They probably won't use him but it would be smart. I've always felt some studio should make a comic book film that wasn't gettin it's source material from the 60's. And make a movie from a current book every nerd would be hooked.

What I had meant was there are no grounds for establishing Venom as a solo character in film. He relies on the popularity of Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3 was terrible, which is the method of characterization Sony apparently intends to use. Unless they plan to completely ignore the last film altogether as they did with First Class and the Amazing Spider-Man, then no, it won't pick up just as Deadpool didn't because it really isn't in high demand except to the few fans.

Ask yourself: Does Venom have any actual enemies of his own? What would set him apart from any hero that it would urge non-fans to see it? Is it in high enough demand for 3D/4D? How will the audience relate to someone like Venom? Will he have action figures? Will it be marketable after its release? How will this be a success?

    • Yes. Several. The Jury, The Life Foundation Symbiotes, Carnage, Mace, The Xenophage, The Mercury Virus, Jack O'Lantern, Crime Master, The Hijacker, The Human Fly, Norman Osborn, The Redeemer, and Toxin. (That was a list for all versions of Venom, not just Eddie - there's definitely more, I just can't recall them by name).
    • No idea. If it was Eddie's Venom, I would think the visuals (he's basically a monster pretending to be a superhero), if it's Flash's, well, then the visuals again and the action movie style stuff would draw people in.
    • I dunno, maybe? Who'd wanna see Venom's tongue flying at them in 3D? That'd be weird.
    • Depends on which Venom they choose to adapt. Eddie's would be hardest to make relateable. But likeable, I think that would be easy for him. He's an entertaining psycho. There's been good movies with that idea before.
    • Well, duh. Why is that a question?
    • Depends how they make it.
    • Depends how they market it.

I'm not entirely convinced the movie would work either, I'm just saying.

Merchandising and for reason Venom sells like hotcakes. Venom wasn't originally written into the third film, and the company noted that his character pulled in a lot of attention and revenue and forced a script change (this is a probable reason Raimi ended up abandoning the franchise before his already green lit 4th and 5th films, no one likes creative interference). The same as there's no reason to consistently have Venom, another characters antagonist in his series, something Marvel has done since the characters introduction, as well as have several of his own toylines isolated from the actual Spider-man ones. Venom sells. The company notes this so highly that they have bopped the idea of a Venom movie around since the early nineties. The issue was always in actually pulling off a legit film instead of a B movie that tarnished the properties reputation and lost revenue. Noting your second post: Venom does not rely on Spider-man for popularity, that's proven itself. If anything, it could be said Venom sells as a darker version of Spider-man well enough on his own. For a long time the Spider-man comics themselves depended on the sales the symbiote characters drew in, and having them gracing the covers and what not.

I'm all open for new ideas. Here's how the Film could go. Eddie Brock lives an average life until a meteorite from outer-space comes down and crashes. Eddie who is really curious goes to check it out, little did he know, the meator was symbiote covered and it jumps out and covers eddie brock. Eddie becomes Venom on that day fights his antagonists and saves the day.He meets spider-man at the last five minutes of the flim and they chat about "who are you?". They both go on off their own way and the movie ends.

STUDIOS AND COMPANIES CANNOT CONTAIN VENOM. HE SHALL BREAK INTO OTHER MOVIES AND KILL THOSE FAR OUTSIDE HIS LEAGUE.

I would LOVE to watch a movie on Venom :D Now all we need now is an Ant-Man film and a Daredevil reboot...

I want that Edgar Wright/Nick Frost/Simon Pegg: Ant-Man vehicle to come to fruition in the worst possible way.

    - If the upcoming Amazing Spider Man reboot makes a boatload of cash, a Venom movie riding on it's coat tails could do ok as long as they keep the budget reasonable.

    - It's not a project that I really care about, but if they can make it work, the more the merrier

@CATPANEXE: I know he wasn't written into the third film, that Raimi was actually opposed to the idea and I know my reason for my dislikes: it was starting to remind me of Post Batman Returns way of conveying a story and just that. The way they threw him in there just didn't give me any love for the character. I didn't feel sympathy. The character acted as a parody to the protagonist, in which case they could have just cloned Spider-Man and assaulted everyone's better judgment either way.

However cool it would be to see Venom on his own, what's being thrown out there chiefly relies on the success of the earlier films. Either they scrap the character (and design), completely reboot it or they deconstruct the character to make him stand on his own. Frankly, I like the idea of an origin told or retold during the opening credits. But there's more to it than that. After the credits roll, what's next? Do they follow the same ingredients that made every Marvel/Sony film hard to wolf down or do they approach it like a cure for cancer? Easter eggs, the downtime between fights, love interests (in this case I hope there are none), the drive to lethally protect and so on.

It wouldn't be successful. Fans will hate it. Average movie goers will be confused. I will bottle the tears of everyone who disagreed, who said it just might work, and sell the vials to the highest bidders on Ebay.

@CATPANEXE: I don't think that they're the right creative team for this project, imo. They wouldn't take the source material seriously.

@mr.obvious: That's why I want them, along with the possible endorsement from Pixar.

@sesquipedalophobe: That's a lot of speculation and personal opinion. Movie companies and corporations likewise don't base market projections on that. So I'm kind of going to agree to just about everything that your entitled to have your personal opinions and respected for it. But...

Again, you mean it would have this effect on you personally? Because none of that is otherwise true in the actual marketing and sales of the Venom character, nor ever has been, and proven as such. I could easily equate any of that to the Punisher. Or Elektra is a better example actually. Or Wolverine not being tied to Hulk. And the reboot factor is moot. The entire film continuity was just scrapped and is being rebooted. Either way audiences already know who Venom is essentially, as they did Elektra. These little details only matter to comic book fans, who in fact represent the minority share of world wide film going audiences. We pretty much low ball every comic book film, because we have too high of expectations. The rest of the movie goer audience doesn't share our comic book nostalgia whatsoever.

I honestly don't see a reason to make a Venom film.

Reposting does nothing for me. I understood everything, but in terms of the critics' reviews and the disappointment of the fans how would they honestly justify reconciling the character to the fans using the apparent arced Spider-Man/Sony universe and still allow him to be his own man? Eating brains (didn't do this in Spider-Man 3 so woe upon fans), exacting justice, jumping from host to host, from the teeth to the faceless expression squinting in a Spider-Manesque style while spraying bullets: what do fans expect and how should the director handle a character whose origin relies on something as iconic and still more prone to honest review and keep a manageable franchise itself?

Yes, Venom has shirts, brass slammers, figurines, a variety of segments in the Ultimate Spider-Man's game, massive and boring stories where he's overcoming sound, fire and his own instincts with the hopes of overcoming Spider-Man, statues, fan art, party plates and balloons, knockoffs and costumes, and outside of that he is as marketable as Schopenhauer is to the illiterati. Mention Spider-Man and it's instant success (within reason). Mention a spin-off and it's held to scrutiny, which should be the case with any Marvel film.
