Each week we like to take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means opening the packaging and taking the item out. This week we're going to look at a Marvel Select figure sold exclusively at The Disney Store - Flash Thompson Venom.
Flash Thompson used to be Peter Parker's greatest enemy and Spider-Man's biggest fan. It was tragic when he lost his legs while showing that he could be the hero he always wanted to be. When the government came in possession of the Venom symbiote, Flash volunteered to become the new Venom.
== TEASER ==What sets this Venom apart from others is his look and design. He clearly looks more like a soldier. The added spikes was an interesting option but makes him look that much tougher.
The shoulder pad/spikes have a single joint that allows them to move a bit. Having them as separate pieces allows more mobility and keeps it from looking too plain and sculpted. The detail of the pouches and gun holsters is a nice touch as well.
Like most Marvel Select figures, he does come with a base. It's cool but doesn't feel as if it was specifically designed for this figure. It's almost a generic battle scene. It's not as big as some of the past we've seen but the reality is, you're not buying these figures for the backgrounds. It's about the figure. This figure does not need the base and can stand on its own.
It's also cool seeing the tiny detail of where the webbing would come out. Each hand has a tiny hole as if webbing could shoot out at any moment.
The only real problem with this figure is the guns. They don't stay in the hands too well. You can position them so that the trigger finger is on the trigger but it's not a super tight fit. While moving the figure around, the guns fell out a few times. Regardless, it's still really cool looking.
It's both cool and strange that this figure is exclusive to The Disney Store. He's clearly a cooly designed figure. It's one that fans of Flash Thompson and this new version of Venom. There is a good amount of articulation and plenty of detail. As for the retail price, I'd imagine it's around $20. You'll want to try to track this one down.
Huge thanks to The Cyan Lantern for sending this figure to us!!
