Though this felt like another filler, as the plot did not progress much, it was filled with some great background information on Flash and his personal life. Before it dives into solid drama though, there are a good six pages of action - somewhat gritty action.

They certainly do not spend any time making the "Human Fly" a likable character - heck, even a character with a little more depth would have been nice. Not that he has to be "deep", but because he is not, I didn't care what happened to him. The entire "mission" and part of the story seemed forced.

I guess it could have represented a "boring day at work" for Flash, as he does head home to his tortured existence, pissed at the world, his past, and most of all, his father. His life isn't all bad though, as we see in this issue, he actually and finally makes a dinner date on time. Something that a "boring day" allows him to do. It was nice to finally see a good part of his relationship with Betty. This issue elevated her from her previous "nag" status - heck she even knows how to play Wolverine for a few laughs, she can't be all that bad...

As is common with Spidey titles, happiness doesn't last long - if it weren't for bad luck... good news is, the next issue is a Spider Island tie-in, which should make for a pretty decent arc and at the very least a couple great cameos.

Review of Venom #5.  The Story: After dispatching The Fly Flash goes to see Betty and learns that his dad hasn't comeback home yet and he might be drinking.  The Good: I haven't read the first 4 issue of this series becasue I wasn't sure how I would enjoy this series, but after hearing nothing but praise I decided to give issue 5, a jumping on point, a chance to impress me. And it did. In here we get a simple story that really shows you what Flash went trough his childhood and how he became late...

Cover:   This has nothing to do with the issue, but that's okay.  It's still a great cover.  The Good:   The storytelling couldn't get any better than this.  This isn't your typical action-packed issue that we become accustomed to so far in this series, but it doesn't mean that this isn't a great issue.  It tackles other matters in Thompson's life.  Frankly, I know not much about Thompson before this series began.  Sure, he was Parker's bully and best friend, but apart from that I hadn't read ...
