Edited 1 year, 1 month ago

Poll: What's your favorite comic from Valiant? (27 votes)

Archer & Armstrong 0%
Bloodshot 11%
Harbinger 19%
Harbinger Wars 0%
Quantum & Woody 11%
Shadowman 15%
X-O Manowar 44%

Let us know your favorite and why.

I hope this thread will get new people to check out Valiant comic books while also maybe getting some recommendations for myself. I'm a newb to Valiant comics but a random buy of an X-O Manowar comic a few weeks ago still has me foaming at the mouth for more. I think if this thread can reach just a few people who didnt know these titles yet, and click out of curiosity, It could maybe even persuade them to give one of these books a chance. And if they do, I have little doubt they will feel as i do.

How did I not know about Valiant until recently? It is tragic as, though I've only got just a glimpse, they seem like a company that not only has a clear direction with these titles but also full of rich mythologies. Not to mention it offers something 'new' and fresh for someone so used to reading mostly just from the big 2.

Many people are already aware of Valiant. But, as I said, I hope this thread will help to provide some guidance for new fans. Maybe even for those unaware that these comics exist.

Harbinger

#6 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@soa: I'm looking to get into Harbinger, but when does harbinger Wars begin in the continuity of it? I plan on starting with Harbinger from ish 1, but when is good to start supplementing that book with Wars?

#7 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32666 posts) - - Show Bio

Harbinger easy, it's pretty brilliant

#8 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32666 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: You don't need to read Wars, Harbinger, Harbinger Wars and Bloodshot are all self contained

#9 Edited by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@jonny_anonymous: oh ok but wouldn't help to supplement Harbinger I enjoy it enough? Like Corps does for Green lantern (as an example)?

#11 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32666 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: I mean you could but you don't need to. Harbinger joins Harbinger Wars at #11

Bloodshot. So damn awesome.

#14 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@smashbrawler: yeah I really like the premise for Bloodshot, this character who is basically exploited in the worst way by his controllers - implanted memories and fake lives programmed into his mind (each one used at the discretion of the mission) so to motivate him to kill. How can you not sympathize with someone like that ya know?

#15 Posted by flazam (2470 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis:

You will Love it its Great!!

Glad I could Help

#16 Edited by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@flazam: yep just checked it out (ish 1) and it was great. I'll have to get the first trade for Shadowman to catch up.

Valiant is really killing it with this reboot, haven't come across an issue i didn't enjoyed yet.

#17 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32666 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: Yea I read all there books and it's amazing how every one ranks from good to amazing, these creators genuinely care about these characters and just want to tell quality storys

#18 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@jonny_anonymous: yeah I really love the quality over quantity approach Valiant has. All their titles are solid. I even saw on a thread someone out up a few months ago about how Valiant, tough has far less titles than other comic companies (only 5 at the time), sells more copies per comic than any company besides DC and Marvel. That's just astounding.

Btw, I checked out Harbinger as yesterday ended a .99 sale. Just awesome. Loving these comics!

#19 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32666 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: Harbinger is brilliant, the best comic of the lot IMO

#20 Posted by Mild_Karl (131 posts) - - Show Bio

You know what's awesome about Valiant? You can argue for each of their titles & no one would really fight you. They're all that awesome.

#21 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@mild_karl: agreed. It seems the readers of Valiant have this unspoken agreement as to the merits of each title.

#22 Posted by flazam (2470 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: Yeah Valiant Is Really Great!!! They have so Many different type of Books, Eg: Sci Fi, Horror , Comedy Etc.

Have you been Reading IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot?

#23 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@flazam: I haven't actually

I've never read TMNT before. Though I loved the show, movies, videogames as a kid.

#24 Posted by flazam (2470 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: I would Defiantly Recommend the new Series, Its a more Serious take on it, Its Great!!

#25 Edited by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@flazam: do they have any trades out for it yet? And how many issues are there this far? I would like to try to get caught up but I'm wondering if its in my bankroll.

#26 Posted by flazam (2470 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: There is 5 trades (But you Don't need to get them)

Issue 22 is a great jumping on Point

X-O Manowar is my favorite, but I like Bloodshot, Harbinger, Archer & Armstrong, and Shadowman as well.

#31 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@novarichrider: X-O is my favorite as well! I also like those other titles a lot too. Still a tough choice as theyre all so good.

Shadowman

#34 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@betaraybill: yeah might be my second favorite. Hard to pick. I love all the series I've read from Valiant.

Any other titles you're enjoying from them?

#35 Posted by ValiantFan (7 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: I really can't decide. I've loved every single title. I started off reading X-O then Harbinger from there I've been reading them all. Even collecting the older volumes. I've read some Marvel and some DC but Valiant captured my heart and soul when it comes to comics. They are so great!

#36 Posted by CheeseSticks (2381 posts) - - Show Bio

Manowar for me. I'll start reading Shadowman, Harbinger and Bloodshot with their next issue. Are they really good titles ?

#37 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

@cheesesticks: dude, good is a massive understatement.

Harbinger, in my opinion, is the best comic on the stands right now. Bloodshot's just brilliant and Shadowman is better than 90% of the stuff you get from the big 2. Plus Shadowman is cool as hell!

Yeah i've read the first 5 issue of each and Shadowman is definitely getting to the top with Harbinger (and War).

Tie between X-O Manowar and Harbinger. Runner-up is Archer & Armstrong.

#40 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

Alright some love for Quantum & Woody!

Stellar first issue. But you really can't choose wrong on this poll, they're all winners.

#41 Posted by Extremis (3334 posts) - - Show Bio

Anymore Quantum and Woody fans? Quickly became one of my favorites! Issue number 2 gets a 5/5 from me, just stellar.

But I'd say the best superhero book out is Harbinger as its also my favorite.

#42 Posted by jesusdisciple001 (545 posts) - - Show Bio

@extremis: def quanyum and woody followed by archer &armstrong then harbinger i'm a comedy guy

#43 Edited by MasterBelmont (363 posts) - - Show Bio

No votes for Archer and Armstrong? Sad, since that series is awesome, and it's one of the two series I read (the other being Shadowman). Oh well, I voted for Shadowman because I'm a big horror guy and it's pretty much everything I could ask for in something horror-related. Just finished the second volume last night, and it was awesome. Excited for volume three (same with A&A).
