kingoftheworld's Uncanny X-Men Annual #3 - Escape From The Negative Zone, Part One review

    its 1992 again

So we've got a storyline in the Annuals only. When i first heard about this i was somewhat excited, but upon reading Uncanny X-Men Annual i was let down. PROFOUNDLY. Once again what sounds like a good idea on paper (pardon the pun) was poorly executed, this seems to be a new Marvel tradition.

The X-men in the Negative zone was something i was interested in reading about. Now I know to read annuals first before buying them.  This book isnt as bad as say "Cry For Justice" or  anything that head bangingly horrible but you look at the names and i feel that if someone a bit more (no offense) A or B- list would have made this a great story and fun opening chapter. But two people ive never heard of shouldnt be writing the X-men. Maybe a D- list spinoff maybe.  The story was "meh" . The opening page homage to "Professor Xavier is a jerk" fell flat on its face. From there every page aftwerwards fell flat as well. The art was strange. All of the women in the book looked like little girls dressed up as grown ups with stuffed shirts as well. I do hope that Nicholas Bradshaw never ever gets near the X-Babies dear god there will be a law suit from parents. There was one two page spread that had a tentacled dinosaur that was very good. Nicholas would be great drawing possibly a Devil Dinosaur book or something similar as long as there are no humans in it.

Im not sure if this book was bad or no one felt like trying and just threw it out there lazily.

    The Good

    Umm... the covers kinda pretty

    The Bad

    EVERYTHING.

    The Ugly

The art, the writing, the feeling that if this is the first chapter what the bloody hell is the rest of the series gonna be like. Leave it on the shelf.

In the Negative Zone, no one can hear an X-Man scream 0

Story At a glance, I’m disappointed with the story, only because its not a self-contained issue. Instead this issue kicks off a three part story that goes into Steve Rogers: Super Soldier Annual (does a miniseries warrant an annual?) and Namor: The First Mutant Annual. Okay, to me an annual book should sort of encompass everything important that has happened for the character(s), maybe deal with or resolve emotional or story plot threads, or just kick off the next arc in a “bold new direction...

Usually I don´t enjoy "annuals" and "specials" a lot, but you got to hand it to Marvel for this idea of linking three annual-issues with this story Escape from the Negative Zone - Marvel has done so in other ocasions, like the Evolutionary War, that involved only annuals editions - this is an interesting way to boost a comic that wouldn´t receive too much atention in the daily basics, so it´s a marketing well played, in my opinion. Originally I wasn´t quite optimistic about this or ansioux in ...
