Dazzling
I never thought I'd be interested in Dazzler again, especially after the horrific abomination that was the X-Treme X-Men a year or two ago. Luckily, this series is smart, funny, and well written, all of the things that book was not. So, rest assured that this is just another example of great writing.
There's something about this series that really gets me, unlike the All-New X-Men that sort of flounders about with drama. There's a lot of introspection that shows the reader how great these characters can be, an then throwing them in a worst-case scenario and showing them, and us, just how they can manage it all under pressure. We see the character development and then are shown how well it can hold up in the real world.
And all of that is pretty well encapsulated here. Bendis does a great job of showing how far some of these characters have come, yet still presents just how frail their situation is at its core. The seems are showing, and it feels like something might break at any moment, which is what helps make this such an exciting read.
And with an ending like this, it's no wonder why I enjoy these books so much. Keep it up, Bendis!
