Going in the right direction but somewhat confusing

This issue kicks off with the continuation of what happened to Magik in the very end of issues no 4. She tells Cyclops how she apparently teleported to Limbo and met up with the demon Dormammu (the later being a character which Bendis has used a couple times before). The interaction with the demon summons the Darkchilde out of Magik. While telling the story if how she attacked a lot of lesser demons in limbo she reveals to Cyclops how she feels she has lost conrol of her powers (after being possessed by the Phoenix Force) and being truly scared for the first time since way back. Cyclops and Illyana agrees to try to contact Doctor Strange to sort out the problem with the powers. Before doing this Magik again, against her will, teleports herself together with the rest of the cast to limbo. She then transforms to Darkchilde as the issue ends.

This comic is okay. I really like how they start moving the story towards an actual arc rather than telling about the coming together of the group and interacting with other groups. But the lasting improssion of the comic is the feeling of transport. We're moving from one story to another, Bendis tries to cram in some character interaction and evolution of the group dynamics. He does it with his standard style which becomes problematic 'cause the three new mutants in the group (Tempus, Fabio & Triage) are not treated as much as characters but more like vessels for Bendisish dialogue. He can do better than this, he needs to do better than this and I have the feeling he will do better than this.

I originally wasn't going to get this series, hence the reason I'm reviewing it so late. I did however decide to get it as it had decent reviews, but the main reason was the upcoming Battle of the Atom crossover which features this.PlotCyclops goes to confront, and comfort Magik over her recent problems, and learns that she was dragged to Limbo (Hell) against her own free will by the demonic like Dormammu.ReviewThis was a phenomenal issue, and although I've been enjoying the series so far, I can...

Every great story has a few classic ingredients; character growth, a journey full of pitfalls and revelations, pain, persecution, and deliverence. This book has all of the elements for a truely great story. (5/5) The art is something that has grown on me. I have always been attracted to a more "Jim Lee" style, but the art and writing on this book produces a perfect marriage, as by book 5, I am a total fan! The facial expressions are my personal favorite, Especially in the interaction with the St...
