Most Uncanny X-Force
Wolverine and Archangel have assembled a new X-Force team to make the hard decisions the X-Men simply can't. Their first task is stopping a secret society who has resurrected En Sabah Nur.
My Thoughts:I'm about a year late to the party but I finally made it. I just recently got caught up to this point on Marvel and have been looking forward to this moment for some time. Uncanny X-Force certainly doesn't disappoint. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. Much, much more.
After recently reading the disappointing Franken-Castle series by Rick Remender, he managed to restore a little faith I lost in him as of late. I don't know if I've ever read anything of his I enjoyed this much. His skills as a writer really flourish here. The dialogue was superb. His characterization was dead on. When reading this you can easily sense everyones own distinct personality. The best and worst of each character is presented throughout the story. The lineup works phenomenally. The characters play off each other very well much to the credit of Remender. His addition of humor delivered by Deadpool and Fantomex only make this read all the more enjoyable.
When going against Apocalypse and his Horsemen you're almost always guaranteed an instant classic. As the X-Force race to stop a new age of Apocalypse you can feel the sense of urgency at the flip of each page. The story felt like an epic action adventure of the ages. And it all goes down on…the moon! Who would have thought? As crazy as it sounds, Remender makes it all work. The Horsemen were worthy adversaries that posed an immense threat the X-Force had quite a difficult time handling. The incredible ending had me on the edge of my seat. While I was hoping for the opposite of what happened, this outcome could still prove to be an intriguing move. I suppose only time will tell.
The artwork is by Jerome Opena whose style is a perfect match for this series. I became more entranced with his work as the story progressed. Dean White's colors were a perfect compliment to Opena's pencils. The two made a great pair and captured all the madness this story is comprised of. The cover gallery at the end was a nice addition to the trade.
Uncanny X-Force is definitely a series all X-Men fans won't want to miss out on. It lives up to all the hype you may have heard about. I highly recommend reading this series.
