Uncanny Silence of the Lambs
This issue did not blow me away, however it does have my attention.
We get another new volume of Uncanny X-Men, which I believe is the third one of the entire series run. I didn't think the last volume was that bad, it wasn't as good as Wolverine and the X-Men. But while that book slowly dies a painful death of mediocrity, we are at least getting something different here.
The team is very similar to the team in the last volume. Cyclops is leading, we have Magneto, Magik, Emma Frost, and two new mutant students.
Cyclops has taken over the abandoned Weapon X facility as his new school for the gifted. The thing is, he isn't really starting a school, but is building an army. A mutant revolution. Going into this book you kind of see it as a book about villains, but it is and it isn't. Cyclops isn't exactly evil, he just wants to fight for mutant rights. While he isn't a fan of mankind, he isn't going out and killing everyone (yet).
The story of this issue is being told to Maria Hill by an unnamed prisoner in a S.H.I.E.L.D. prison. The prisoner (we find out who it is at the end of the issue) is telling of the Uncanny X-Men team recruiting a guy that can shoot bouncy balls out of his stomach. It sounds stupid but it works in the comic.
The identity of the prisoner is kind of easy to figure out if you really pay attention.
While this issue didn't have the "wow!" that All New X-Men had, it isn't bad. It is a far cry from All New X-Men, but it has me interested enough to keep checking out the book. The new costumes are what they are. I like Magneto's though, but it should have been purple. At least he no longer wears underwear on the outside of the costume, so that's a plus.
The AR on this book was not so good. The cover gives you a run down of the Cyclops story. Then we get a lengthy audio only interview with Brian Michael Bendis that is very misplaced. He kind of reveals the twist of this issue and was a little too long for AR content. I should have been at the last page, and honestly would have been better off on the YouTube channel. We get a stupid video of an editor trying to "date" the issue. He also disses the last volume. It was lame. We get a Killgore Technologies commercial, that again would have been better on YouTube.
The one cool AR thing was a neat wallpaper for the iPhone, iPad, or your computer. The problem was on my phone I had to copy the web link location and then open it as a webpage, in order to save the picture.
So the AR wasn't great. I am not reflecting any of the AR content positive or negative in my review score. Just something extra.
