GOOD: God damn i love Cassaday's art. His colors are so vibrant and detailed and his characters look astonishing. I also am looking forward to see Havok in this series. He has much potential, and i am seeing how Reminder can tackle his positioning into the role of leadership. I really dig the premise for the first story arc for this series- Red Skull planing to eradicate the mutant race makes sense with his character. Also, it is possible for a confrontation between Red Skull and Magneto ( which would be awesomeee!) Plus, more Red Skull ain't a bad thing for me.
BAD: This issue suffers the same problem i have with some other first issues: they only begin to set up for whats to come but sacrifice the feeling of satisfactory. While the eulogy for Xavier was technically touching, because the character has either died or M.I.A a couple of times, its hard to garner up any form of reaction other than " I'd give it a few months" , the funeral just feels like a routine: mutants cry, the whole " Xavier never got to see his dream come true" line (again). I was disappointed in the convo between Scot and Alex, I expected a little more. My biggest problem is the characterization of both Rogue and Wanda: Rogue behaved like Wolverine, Wanda went from Sympathetic in one panel, to complete bitch who says all the blame should be on cyclops and asked the stupid question of " why was is important for more mutants to be born." Point is both characters were a little out-of compared to how they were portrayed for the last couple of months. Also we just went through 12 issues and forum discussions of " Its Wanda's fault, its Scotts fault. its none of them", why do we need to hear this again?
VERDICT: Uncanny Avengers suffers few of the issues common in most 1st issues, as well as having the stench of the abysmal AVX crossover. Still, this title does seem promising and I am curious to see where this goes and more of red skull. I believe that in a few months after AVX is nothing but a forgotten memory, this series will begin to feel free and truly shine.
