Last week Marvel released a teaser for the upcoming AGE OF ULTRON event. Today, Marvel and writer Brian Michael Bendis have released some details about the ten issue miniseries.

The ten issues will ship between March and June of 2013. Bendis will be joined by Bryan Hitch on the first five issues with the second five drawn by Brandon Peterson and Carlos Pacheco. According to Arune Singh, Marvel's Director of Communication, "There will be a very cool reason for the artistic shift."

The Avengers will be entering the "darkest days of the Marvel Universe" as they fight for survival and have only two choices—Submit or Perish.

According to Bendis:

In the vein of Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Invasion and Civil War, Age of Ultron is a massive Marvel Universe-spanning Event. One of our most famous villains, Ultron, the super artificial intelligence, has fulfilled his destiny and taken the Earth. This story touches every corner of the Marvel Universe and will have an amazing effect on things going forward. We have taken the time to do this right- everything is gorgeous, every page matters, and most of all- something I'm very proud of- is that it will be shipping at a furious pace. Every day for the last year and a half people have been asking me when this story will come and I'm thrilled to announce that it is here.

If you read last year's POINT ONE one-shot, you saw the sneak peek at what we can expect. Marvel has released some images to give us a taste of what's coming.

I wonder how much involvement Moon Knight will have in this series considering it was basically a prologue to it.

It's about time Marvel does an event.

They are going to kill this in 4 months? 3 issues each month? Damn! What is the point of this, then? Why Marvel loves to throw everything right away? Too many questions, few answers.

#9 Posted by Mr. Kamikaze (449 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

The Marvel universe goes through a lot of darkest days. I wonder when they have time to be superheroes, these days. Maybe the big joke is they were under Ultron's control this whole time and the last 10 years worth of events were all a dream!

#10 Posted by wmwadeii (691 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

I see Spider-man, so um is this happening before or after #700, or is the new Spider-man going to be a new lead, and Peter Parker is going to stay on his teams. Or I guess the idea is Ben Reilly will take the mantle it could be him.

While the premise is amazing, another event so soon? seems like a cash grab...

This sounds awesome. Definitely something I'll wait to read in trade.

#14 Posted by Spellca (101 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

"Darkest Day in the Marvel Universe"?

Marvel's melodrama is stunning; made worse by event following event following event. I guess "The Heroic Age" and "Heroes being heroes" got boring when you can just drag out characters for a slug-fest.

#15 Posted by Mrfuzzynutz (633 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

ok..Comparing Civil War and Secret Invasion to The Infinity Gauntlet??! Pump Your Brakes and Slow Down Skippy!!

AND as long as Hitch is doing the art, this will be a good book, but Bendis is not very good at writing The Avengers so I am not really getting to excited for this. Give me a different writer paired with Hitch...I'm all in, but I'll wait and see when this rolls out

i dont get why people are complaining about bendis. when he writes the avengers he is awesome. and if his last mini is any indication this will be awesometacular. spider-men if you're wondering what im reffering to.

Hawkeye last man standing

This does look really good, and I am pretty interested after reading Bendis' Moon Knight...

... buuuuut, with this looking to be a weekly or bi-weekly series, I doubt whether I can afford it all in one go. I think that I'll give the trade a look when it comes out.

I love how everyone complains about new events and then when the sales figures come out, said event is always at the top of the list :)

Got a feeling that this pushing of Ultron may mean we're due to see him in the Marvel Movieverse.

#22 Posted by Ironhawk22 (298 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

I usually sit Marvel events out(since Siege) but I'm definitely gonna pick this up. This is going to be great!

#23 Posted by Cap10nate (961 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

That top picture is awesome. Ultron is a beast. I love that Cap is in his classic costume again. They try to change it yet everyone draws it differently and usually reverts back to the old style.

I am definitely looking forward to this. I like the fast ship as well. No need to drag it out for a year. I was kinda hoping that Hickman would be handling this but it has been Bendis' baby since he first alluded to it. I have never really disliked his writing but I also haven't read his entire run. It'll just be nice to see Earth's Mightiest go against the monstrosity that is Ultron.

Don't know why I forgot Age of Ultron was Bendis's story......I'll sit this one out. If it's actually good, I'll get the trades.

Hopefully the costumes will be updated....unlike that cover. I wonder when it was drawn.

As it should be.

I am really not looking forward to this. They had a chance to turn this event crap around with Marvel Now, but nope same sh!t different numbering on the comic.

Exactly my thoughts. The ink isn't even dry on the AvX consequences books, Marvel NOW is halfway through its launch and another big event is on its way?

Sigh. At least the art looks good.

Wow, a storyline Marvel actually built up instead of doing it out of nowhere. Shocking......ULTRON I COMMAND YOU TO KILL BLACK PANTHER IN THE MOST HORRIFIC MANNER! DEATH BY ADAMANTIUM ****** ***** * * * * * ** ** * * * * * * * * * Up his royal ******* **** ***** *** *** ******* **** WITH EXPLOSIVES!

So it's either a case of Vocal Minority, or Compulsion (a strong, usually irresistible impulse to perform an act, especially one that is irrational or contrary to one's will) :)

I hope they all die.

#48 Posted by VanAce (135 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

Age of Ultron sounds really interesting. Although shipping 10 issues between March-June seems a bit much. What they should have done is made it 5 double-sized issues in that same period, made it $3.99 - $4.99. You would get massive numbers if it were seen as value for money.

The accelerated rate of release doesn't bother me as much if the tie-ins are kept to a minimum and the mini-series is self contained. Reading the article on CBR it looks like there will be no more than 10 tie-ins and they will be treated like .1 issues.

#49 Posted by lorex (838 posts) - 5 months, 29 days ago - Show Bio

While the event could indeed be interesting and the art shown so far looks great, I wonder when they say its "a massive marvel universe-spanning event" does that mean most titles are going to be disrupted for 4 months like in AvX cause I am not cool with that. AvX had far too many useless side plots to tie in the other books and it dragged on far too long. I would like for this to have its own core titles and maybe tie in a few Avenger books rather than disrupting everything for the event.
