You'd think it'd be difficult to make predictions about an event that won't even start until November, but Marvel has been dropping clues all over books like Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Origins. We know that Marvel intends Ultimatum to be an event that rattles the universe to the core. Nothing will ever be the same once it's done.
Yes, I know what you're thinking, but let's assume that particular boast actually holds true for once.
Based on solicitations for the first two issues, it appears as if the Ultimate Universe will be experiencing its own Crisis. Natural disasters and weather-related phenomena plague the planet. All across the world, mechanical Watchers have sprung up, silently monitoring the impending disaster.
Magneto was not a Holocaust survivor, as he was in the original comics. Instead, his parents worked for Weapon X. At some point, the mutant gene must have passed out of their control, because his parents claimed to be searching for a cure. At some point in his early life, Magneto was exposed to the gene and gained his powers. Unimpressed by his parents' goals, a teenage Magneto killed his mother and freed Wolverine.
It's interesting to wonder how Magneto's human-hating ways must be affected by the knowledge that his powers were created in a test tube. A twinge of self-loathing, perhaps? I believe that his ultimate goal is to expose every last man, woman, and child on Earth to the mutant gene. It's already spread far beyond the control of the government and S.H.I.E.L.D. It's even showing up as a street-level drug called Banshee. If Magneto knows how the gene spread, he may be able to extend the process to its fullest.
This would certainly change the Ultimate books on a fundamental level. What's the purpose of a team of X-Men when mutants are no longer the minority but the dominant life form? What's so fantastic about Reed Richards and his family now? How would society react when teachers and traffic cops and stockbrokers start shooting lasers out their fingers? Picture the entire situation as the exact opposite of M-Day, or if Magneto had actually succeeded in his plan in the first X-Men movie.
Perhaps Magneto doesn't initially try to spread the mutant gene. Maybe he has some other demand in mind. The mutant gene might be a threat he holds over humanity's head, hence the "Ultimatum" title. Regardless, everything I'm reading seems to point to one conclusion. No more humans.
