Ultimates 3 #3 Returns With New Printing

Added by G-Man on Mar 4, 2008

I've seen that some people aren't too crazy about Ultimates 3.  I've been enjoying it.  Maybe it's the art.  There's been lots of action.  It's a little weird how pretty much the entire team is a bunch of jerks.  Maybe that adds a little more realism?  To me, it's always seemed that pretty much anything can go.  The Ultimate Universe has more freedom in what the writers can do with the characters.  Pretty surprising since the titles have been doing well.  I don't see the Ultimate line going away any time soon.  But why stifle the writers, right?  If they want to do something crazy and it works in the story, I guess that's part of the charm of the line.  It's like our normal Marvel comics but often they go way out into left field.  As far as people liking Ultimates 3, all three issues have sold out.  So somebody besides me is buying it.

There’s no stopping the hottest book of the year, as Marvel is proud to announce the fourth straight sell-out for the red-hot Ultimates 3, with Ultimates 3 #3 selling out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level). Eisner-winning, Emmy-nominated super-scribe Jeph Loeb (Hulk, television’s Heroes) joins forces with the superstar art team of Joe Madureira and Christian Lichtner for the series that will forever change the Ultimate Universe! Scarlet Witch is dead, the Ultimates are divided and more of Wolverine’s secret history has been revealed…but just what other surprises could this creative team have up their sleeves? Well, you’ll have to stay tuned to find out!

To meet the overwhelming demand for this issue, Marvel is going back to press with Ultimates 3 #3 Second Printing Variant, featuring the gorgeous interior art of Madureira and Lichtner on a new wraparound cover!

“Fantastic!” said Loeb. “That's all I have to say... well, okay... Again, to the fans, readers, and retailers, to come on this immensely popular title and continue to find success I am so grateful. I can only promise that we're going to continue telling the best stories we can that lead us into ULTIMATUM!"

Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on all issues of Ultimates 3, as the series continues to sell out quickly and garner buzz. The book that’s redefining the rules of superhero series and leading the March On Ultimatum continues with the jaw-dropping Ultimates 3 #3 Second Printing Variant and nothing will ever be the same!

Ultimates 3 #1 Returns With A New Look

Added by G-Man on Feb 6, 2008

Filed under: Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Joe Madureira

At first I was like, here we go, another reprint variant.  Yawn.  Then I looked at the images.  Oooh.  I likes me some color, just like most folks do.  But looking at the untouched images from Joe Mad is very nice.  I just might have to get this.  Am I a sucker or what?  Maybe I'll leave it to fate and my local comic shop.  If they order it and I see it, I'll pick it up.

You do have to wonder why they're charging the same amount.  Shouldn't it be cheaper without color?  That happened to me with a recent issue of Wolverine.  I just thought it was a black and white cover.  Then I opened it at home and was like, "what the _____?"

It’s the ultimate comic book event of the year and now Ultimates 3 is back like you’ve never seen it before! In Ultimates 3 #1 Black & White Variant, the sold-out smash hit from Eisner award-winning scribe Jeph Loeb and superstar artist Joe Madureira returns with black & white interiors! Spotlighting the raw power that made Joe Madureira one of this generation’s most popular comic book artists, this special variant edition also features the same dialogue and jaw-dropping plot that forever changed the Ultimate Universe! This issue also features Madureira’s now classic wraparound covers in black & white, depicting the Ultimate Universe heroes heading towards a climactic battle with their enemies, the Brotherhood!

"What a wonderful gift for the fans of the book," says Loeb. "Joe's artwork looks great in color, but to see what an amazing illustrator he is just off his pencils is a mindblowing!"

As the March On Ultimatum continues, don’t miss your chance to experience one of the year’s most controversial comics of the year! Just why has one of the Ultimates’ most powerful members been targeted for death? And who—or what—is the object of Venom’s quest? It all begins in Ultimates 3 #1…and you’ve never seen it brought to life like this before!

Frank Cho Covers Ultimates 3

Added by G-Man on Jan 30, 2008

Filed under: Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Frank Cho

Soooo...why would Frank Cho draw Scarlet Witch on the cover when she was shot and killed in issue #1?  Is she really dead?  Was it all a rouse to get Pietro to join the Brotherhood?  Maybe it's Mystique posing as Scarlet Witch.  Who knows.  Maybe it's just because there'll be a flashback to their "origins."  Lame.  I have to say, Ultimates has a sort of crazy feel to it.  It's set in the Ultimate Universe but it feels like anything can go.  More so than usual.  I like it.

Marvel is proud to unveil Frank Cho’s stunning variant cover to Ultimates 3 #3 (of 5), featuring the Scarlet Witch! As the March On Ultimatum continues, the Ultimates deal with the fallout of the Brotherhood’s assault as Wolverine appears on the scene to uncover the past. And just what are the true origins of Quicksilver & the Scarlet Witch?

The red-hot team of superstars Jeph Loeb, Joe Madureira, and Chris Lichtner continue the sold-out, acclaimed Ultimates 3 thrill ride with shocking secrets you won’t believe!

The Ultimates Face The Brotherhood-'Nuff Said!

Added by G-Man on Dec 11, 2007

Filed under: Spider-Man, Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Joe Madureira

Okay so what's the consensus on issue #1?  Was that a "holy crap" ending or what?  Who thinks  the team member is really dead?  (I won't reveal it in case there's still some that haven't read or heard yet).  My only gripe is the issue seemed to end so quickly.  Guess it was a fast-paced issue.  Gotta say the art was pretty sweet.  It's just too bad this series is so short.

They’ve lost one of their own, but the Ultimates must now contend with the full wrath of The Brotherhood! In the red-hot Ultimates 3 #2 (of 5), from the dream team of Eisner-Winning, Emmy-nominated author Jeph Loeb and the acclaimed art team of Joe Madureira & Christian Lichtner, the action packed thrill ride kicks it up a notch as Spider-Man and another familiar face join the fray. How will the team react to last issue’s shocking conclusion that has the Internet buzzing? Just why has the Brotherhood decided to launch an all-out offensive at this time? And Valkyrie versus…Thor? Wrapped up in two stunning covers—one by Madureira & Lichtner, the other by superstar Michael Turner—this is the action-packed extravaganza no Marvel fan can miss!

“Ultimates 3 is off to a very good start,” gushed Jon Judy of SilverBulletComicBooks.Com. “A real fun read…Loeb and Madureira handle this brilliantly.”

“We are in for one heck of a thrill ride,” said Marc Haines of ComicInfo.News.

Marvel urges readers to check their orders on Ultimates 3 #2 and all issues of this series, as the hotly anticipated first issue sold-out at Diamond in less than 24 hours! If you think the first issue packed in action, intrigue and suspense like never before, then you ain’t seen nothing yet, True Believers! It’s Ultimates 3 #2—and the Ultimate Universe will never be the same again!

And just like I thought, Hawkeye was going to be a jerk about the way he "talks" to Spidey.  I hope the whole "angry superhero" thing doesn't last too long.  I've always liked Hawkeye and don't really care to see him grunting and barking at everyone.  Lighten up, buddy.

Ultimates 3 #1 Sells Outs & Returns With New Cover

Added by G-Man on Dec 7, 2007

This was a good first issue.  Love the art.  Funny how there's so many characters on the cover(s) but so few of them appear in the actual comic.  Poor Tony Stark.  He's such a drunk here.  Crazy that no one steps in to try to stop him from using his armor.  It doesn't seem like a good idea to let someone that's drunk fly around in that much fire-power.  I also think Hawkeye's not to going to be too nice to Spider-Man if he can find him.  I love Hawkeye but he's just so angry here (with good reason, I suppose).  And what the heck was up with Venom?  As for the cover, I don't know how I feel about reprint  issues just have art from inside as the new cover.  I guess it's better than just having the same exact cover with "2nd printing" in tiny print somewhere.  It's also the fastest way to get it out rather than try to commission a new one.  It's also good since I won't be tempted to try to track it down if it was cooler than the original cover.

Marvel is pleased to announce that Ultimates 3 #1 (of 5), from the red-hot dream team of Eisner-winning author Jeph Loeb and the fan favorite art team of Joe Madureira & Christian Lichtner, has sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level). Featuring a shocking ending that forever changes the Ultimate Universe, and leads into 2008’s hotly anticipated Ultimatum event, Ultimates 3 is essential reading for fans of the Ultimate Universe!

To meet the overwhelming demand for this issue, Marvel is going back to press with Ultimates 3 #1 Second Printing Variant Wraparound Cover, featuring a stunning new cover based on the interior art of Madureira & Lichtner.

“I've seen it. I love it. I'm buying it,” said acclaimed Ultimates & Ultimates 2 author Mark Millar. “The only thing that makes me sad is that these guys will outsell even me and Hitchy. I joked to Loeb that he was George Lazenby to my Sean Connery, but the specky one might just be my Daniel Craig. This is good stuff!”

If you missed this landmark issue, now’s your chance to get onboard with Ultimates 3 #1 Second Printing Variant Wraparound Cover. Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on all issues of Ultimates, as the series continues to draw buzz for all corner and redefines the Ultimate universe. And don’t miss Ultimates 3 #2, as the Ultimates must survive an assault by the Brotherhood!

The March On Ultimatum Continues In Ultimate Power

Added by G-Man on Dec 4, 2007

Filed under: Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Greg Land, Squadron Supreme

I suppose I've been enjoying this series.   The only problem I have is there's just too many characters.  There's not a whole lot of character interaction.  I get that there's a lot of fighting going on but it's not like these guys get together everyday.  They seem too comfortable around each other.  I guess they all fought against the aliens in the Ultimates.  Which we never did see where that fit into continuity with the other Ultimate titles.  I don't remember there being a mention of New York getting trashed in Ultimate Spidey or Ultimate X-Men.  Am I just drawing a blank from reading too many comics?  Oh well.  Like I said, it is enjoyable.

The breathtaking battle between the Ultimates and two versions of the Squadron Supreme concludes and the Ultimate Universe will never, ever be the same again! Ultimate Power #9 (of 9), from the red-hot creative team of Emmy-nominated and Eisner-winning author Jeph Loeb and acclaimed artist Greg Land bring you the “ultimate” superhero throwdown as enemies become allies to defeat the Hulk! Who’s more powerful—the Thing or The Hulk? Who is the new permanent resident of the Ultimate Universe? And what’s Nick Fury’s role in the stunning conclusion?

A March On Ultimatum tie-in, this powerful final chapter of the Ultimate Power epic forces both sides to make huge sacrifices that’ll change both the Ultimate and Supreme Power universes forever. True Believer, you won’t believe your eyes when it all concludes—it’s more than mortal minds can imagine!

Setting the stage for 2008’s can’t-miss event, Ultimatum, Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on Ultimate Power #9 and all upcoming March On Ultimatum tie-ins. In 2008, the ultimate price will be paid, but this is where the future of the Ultimate Universe begins…but is it the beginning of the end? Look to the Ultimatum teaser for a hint of things to come.

Loeb, Madureira & Lichtner Unleash Ultimates 3 #1

Added by G-Man on Nov 12, 2007

Filed under: Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Joe Madureira

With a consistent schedule, this could be really really good.  I can't wait.  I like how pretty much anything can go.  I don't like how before all these major events happened yet we still haven't seen any mention in the other Ultimate books.  There's only a few.  You'd think that if there was a major alien invasion or if New York got trashed, there'd be something said about it.  Oh well.  We're all just really happy to have Joe Mad back! (And Ultimate Venom).  But only five issues?!?

The most-star studded comic book of the event arrives this December and when it’s done, the Ultimate Universe will never be the same! Ultimates 3 #1 (of 5), from Eisner-winning and Emmy-nominated writer Jeph Loeb (Fallen Son, Heroes) joins the superstar art team of Joe Madureira & Christian Lichtner (Uncanny X-Men, Battle Chasers) to bring you the can’t-miss third season of the world’s most controversial super hero team! No longer working for S.H.I.E.L.D., Earth’s mightiest heroes operate from Tony Stark’s mansion in New York—but that doesn’t mean they’re in the clear! New members! New adventures! New secrets! The March on Ultimatum continues here and when one of Earth’s greatest heroes dies, it sends the Ultimate Universe down the path of no return!

“Is Christmas here already? Jeez, it seems like it gets here earlier every year!” smiled Loeb. “I'm thrilled that retailers, fans, and new readers will finally get a chance to see the amazing artwork that Joe Mad and Chris Lichtner and Richard Starkings have created for this project. We realize that we're following a creative team that is unfollowable (is that a word?), but I think Mark Millar put it best when he said, upon seeing some of the artwork, that we were like the new James Bond. Different cast, different look, but it's still a James Bond movie. Hopefully, he meant Daniel Craig and not Timothy Dalton!

Everyone on the team and at Marvel have put all their best efforts into making this THE book for the year end. Enjoy!”

Who are the Ultimates now? What’s happened since the conclusion of the second volume? And just what could possibly tear this team apart? The answers arrive in Ultimates 3 #1, along with your choice of two stunning gatefold covers—one featuring the heroes and another featuring the villains!

Ultimates 3 is here and it doesn’t get any bigger than this, True Believer!

Can't say I'm too excited about the variant cover.  I like Black Panther and all but it's kind of a plain cover.  It'll probably be harder to find anyway.

The Ultimates Return In Ultimates Saga

Added by G-Man on Oct 18, 2007

Filed under: Ultimates, C.B. Cebulski, Mark Millar, Bryan Hitch, Mindy Owens

I'm looking forward to this.  Who isn't?  I liked Ultimates but the delays just killed the flow.  I do need a re-cap before it starts up again, hopefully on schedule.  Also check out that art below.  I like color in comics but those pencils just look sooo awesome.

From the personal files of Tony Stark comes this never before seen look at the history of the Ultimates-and a sneak peek of their future-in Ultimates Saga! Featuring the jaw-dropping return of superstar artist Travis Charest in four brand new interior pages, along with some of renowned Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch's most powerful moments from his landmark run, and a new cover by Mark Brooks, this is the book that will prepare you for Ultimates 3!

Every spy has his secrets, and Nick Fury is no different. As America's top-ranking espionage expert, just imagine what skeletons Nick has lurking in his closet! What really happened behind the scenes of America's premiere super hero strike force? That's what Tony Stark wants to know!

As Stark assumes control of S.H.I.E.L.D., he quickly discovers that leading an international super-team is not all it's cracked up to be, even for a man of his power and genius. Just what does the future hold for the billionaire and for the Ultimates? As he begins studying Nick Fury's personal files on past Ultimates activities, Tony finds that maybe their actions were not always as altruistic as he suspected. And the deeper he delves into the mysteries he unlocks in Fury's journals, the more he begins to question just want he's gotten himself into by assuming control of the The Ultimates.

While recapping Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's amazing five year run the The Ultimates Volume 1 and 2, the Ultimates Saga also sets up the action in Ultimates 3, by providing a unique new perspective on the events the team has fought and lived through. New revelations and insights are brought to light as the team must now come to terms with what truly lies ahead for them all. With Ultimates 3 around the corner, this is your chance to get caught up on one of the most groundbreaking superhero epics ever, along with brand new art by Travis Charest-and it's only in Ultimates Saga!

Ultimates 3 #1 Debuts With Two Gatefold Covers

Added by G-Man on Sep 19, 2007

Filed under: Jeph Loeb, Ultimates, Joe Madureira, Chris Lichtner

Despite all the delays and such, Ultimates was a good series.  I'll admit I got a little confused a couple times in between issues (I'd forget little details of what happened after reading so many other comics).  Hopefully that won't be a problem this time around.  They've been working on this for some time and I think they waited until they had a few issues in the can.  Anyway, I can't wait to see what's in store this time around.  It's going to be so nice to see Joe Mad's art once again.  I am bummed that it's only five issues instead of 12.  And about those posters, does anyone plan on paying sixteen bucks for one (or thirty-two for both)?

Marvel is pleased to announce that the most-anticipated comics release of the year, Ultimates 3 #1 (of 5), will arrive in stores this December with two different gatefold covers! From the all-star creative team of Jeph Loeb, Joe Madureira and Christian Lichtner, Ultimates 3 unveils a new line up for the comic industry’s most exciting, controversial superhero team, along with new opponents to battle! To celebrate this landmark issue, Madureira and Lichtner have crafted two dynamic gatefold covers for the premiere issue of Ultimates 3, one featuring the heroes and the other featuring the villains. To meet the overwhelming demand for this series, Marvel has released two separate solicitations for Ultimates 3 #1, allowing retailers to order their preferred quantities of each cover.

"When we first talked about how to launch Ultimates 3, we wanted something that both the retailers and the fans could sink their teeth into,” explained award-winning writer Loeb. “I'd been a huge fan of Joe Mad's Uncanny X-Men #350 with that triple-gatefold and it's hardly ever done anymore. But since we're in the Ultimates it had to be even bigger than that! Working with Chris Lightner's magic digital inks and colors, Joe created TWO covers -- HEROES and VILLAINS all rushing toward each other. And when you put them together it makes one massive poster. So much so, that Marvel is releasing them as posters! We also wanted to thank you all for being patient while we put this together properly. Joe and Chris are at the height of their game and having been away from comics for a few years, these Hall of Famers have returned with a vengeance. Go Ultimates!"

This winter, the Ultimate Universe heads down the road to Ultimatum and the red-hot, start studded Ultimates 3 #1 (of 5) is your first chance to experience this bold new direction for the comic line that changed superheroes! And don’t miss both the color and black white poster editions of these covers, featuring the stunning art of Madureira and Lichtner!

Captain America movie to be made after Hulk!

Added by G-Man on Jun 18, 2007

We all knew it was coming.  Looks like it's getting set in stone.  Question is, will it take place during WWII or the present?  Kevin Feige, the President of Production at Marvel comments.

Well I think we’ll certainly have to play with that and play with Captain America being this patriotic propaganda machine on one hand but also being a very human Steve Rogers – interesting, fascinating hero in his own right. The good news is Marvel is perceived pretty well around the world right now and I think putting another uber Marvel hero into the worldwide box office will be a good thing. The script that David Self is writing, the director that we end up hiring, and certainly we’re going into it with our eyes open and these are all things that we have to deal with much the same way that Captain America when thawed from the Arctic Ice entered a world he didn’t recognize and had to deal with changes… whether it was when Stan did it in the early 60’s and that world that Steve Rogers was coming into or the world of 2009.

What about an Ultimate Avengers movie?

I would love, yeah…the idea that what was preventing certain characters from crossing over in the past was the fact that they were all divvied up with different studios with big giant gates in between them and they couldn’t play in the same sandbox and now that we have Hulk and Thor and Cap and Iron Man and Ant Man, certainly would indicate to me that it might be fun to see them all in the same sandbox at some point. But certainly we’re introducing them and building them into their own franchises first.
