The place is a world very much like ours. The time is now. The phenomenon is genetic mutation. It is a time of change. Humanity now faces mutants, a mysterious sub-species that is gifted with strange and frightening powers. Hidden among the population, they are feared and hated by their human cousins. As rumors and urban myths about their existence spread across the world, the U.S. Government creates its own initiative to deal with this threat: the Sentinel Project. Meanwhile, two men wage a secret war for the hearts and minds of young mutants everywhere. Charles Xavier has recruited a cadre of students including Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast that call themselves the "X-Men". But there are others out there, living in fear, struggling to deal with what they are: Ororo Munroe, Bobby Drake... and another, more dangerous mutant named Logan. Simultaniously, the terrorist known only as Magneto has assembled "The Brotherhood," a militant group dedicated to the overthrow of human authority. A war is on the horizon, and these amazing young men and women will decide the future of all humanity!?

As the Sentinels are unleashed upon Los Angeles and Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants threatens the existence of man, Jean Grey (Marvel Girl) is busy recruiting other young mutants to join her and Cyclops as X-men at Professor Xavier's Institute For Gifted Children. Their first mission? Save the mutant runaway Bobby Drake from a Sentinel attack in New York. Although successful, they also manage to attract the interest of mutant separatist Magneto, who decides to send Wolverine to assassinate Professor X.

Pretty Good 'Cover' Version of the X-Men 0

Marvel launched the Ultimate line at a time when I was on a hiatus from comic collecting. When I became aware of its existence, I cynically dismissed it as just another attempt by Marvel to squeeze more money out of its flagship characters  Then - based on good reviews, I picked up Ultimates (thinking that was the best place to start) - and I was blown away! Hank and Janet in an all-out super-abusive relationship; George Bush calling on Captain America; this was the kind of superhero books I'd b...

    Wolverine in Ultimate XMen 0

Wolverine falls in love with Jean Grey after proving that he is qualified to become an XMan. Professor still doesn't give any sign of knowing that what when they rescued Wolverine from the WeaponX convoy that Wolverine was sent to kill him. This was very interesting because neither professor nor Jean knew the real reason as to why Wolverine was sticking around so long. When the first fight with the brotherhood came around, the Xmen's opponents were astounded that Wolverine hd not succeeded yet s...

The first issue in this series that lasted 100  issues. I really loved this series and hated to see it get cancelled. I didn't start reading this series until close to the last issue, but i enjoyed it so much i went out and got all the back issues for this series. Well not back issues, but the trade paper backs. In this issue we see Charles Xavier form the first line-up of  the X-Men. In the first line-up we get Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Colossus, Storm, and finally Iceman. Which i thought wa...
