Passions Running High In Westchester...
The last of this series I read was issue 26, so I`d missed quite a chunk of the saga before I picked it up again with this one...
The X-Men are taking some time out after a series of typically dangerous adventures (we`re informed in the foreward), and love is in the air...oh gawd, an issue like this would normally have me fleeing in horror, please! Spare me from the romances of superheroes - I just don`t care! okay??!!
But no...the scenes, particularly Jean and Scott`s date to the cinema are so entertainingly written - check out a frustrated Jean telling Scott that she`s read his mind and is aware of every sordid fantasy he has about her - that the normally tiresome love stories didn`t bother me.
Good to see that this series still combines that little bit of fun with all the cataclysmic mutant terror stuff. Still excellently written, new writer Robert Kirkman took over for this one, I believe. And great penciling by Tom Raney captures every emotion and character detail...
All this and...( another great thing about this series, the old characters from the past they bring up - errr...that`s the other past in the other Universe)...Xavier has a date with the mysterious Lilandra, Bobby and Rogue get up to allsorts when they get the house to themselves, and Wolverine bumps into an old acquaintance - Sabretooth! Cue upcoming showdown...bring it on!
Good stuff!
