    What's the Deal?

A few days back I posted a blog discussing how the Ultimate Universe was failing in my eyes, how it had lost the sparkle it once had in my eyes. And then I read this issue and it returned that feeling of high school joy the first run (And first few issues of this volume) had for me. As the cover might lead you to believe, Spider-Woman is back in town and Johnny Storm is hot on her trail, seeing her as the girl of his dreams. She, of course, doesn't really go for it at first, being Peter Parker's clone and all, and we never quite find out how that meeting ended for sure.

On the other end of town, Peter Parker has his drama at school, it seems Kitty, MJ and Gwen have been talking and ...

Aunt May doesn't have a problem with it, in fact, she loves the new changes. Johnny gets home and tells the whole house that he made out with Spider-Woman, leading to a long list of every hot girl Peter has ever met, to Gwen's displeasement. Peter doesn't take it very well and goes out for a night of intense crime-fighting in hopes of forgetting the sour image in his mind of his clone and Johnny kissing. Which it doesn't.
Then we get to the actual dramatic plot, as if high school stories weren't dramatic, the government comes to take Kitty Pryde away. And rather forcefully really, tricking her into acting out and then pulling a gun on her!

And just like that the issue is over and the cliffhanger is here. Next time people!

As much as it may seem like a buzzed over a lot of that really fast and didn't go into much insane detail, I completely loved this comic. It's not as good as the opening issue to this series, where the world of Peter Parker has been flipped around for the reader, but this is the kind of stuff I read comics like Ultimate Spider-Man for, high school drama. All the characters have their own voices and get a beat here and there. The interplay between Peter and Gwen alone in to die for and the art, oh god, the art is amazing. I was once on record as saying that I thought Lafuente's art didn't fit this kind of series and for the last 7/9 issue of this series, I've been dead wrong. The double-paged splash page with a mourning Peter over the horrid image of his clone and friend making-out was to beautiful. It was the kind of art that makes an artist look at the work he's done, crumple it up and say, "I can do more."

I don't really know how I could endorse this issue more, it's almost perfect, go get this!
