Ultimate, Ultimate Spider-Man
Spoilers: I am not hiding any of the awesome that is in this book.
The issue I have been waiting for. Some people may think that Miles should not be hanging with Aunt May, Gwen, and Mary Jane, and those people would be wrong. Based upon how small this Ultimate Universe really is, how could you have a new Spider-Man come out of the shadows and not have Peter's family want to know what the heck is going on.
Sure we have been getting to see some of that in Spider-Men, but we need this here, and especially at this point in time. With "Divided We Stand," we get exactly what we have been waiting for, some resolution of Captain America's guilt over Peter's death, and confronting his family as well as addressing his concerns over Miles. Really, even with all of the destruction going on around the US in this storyline, this is cataclysm in Miles' life: being shut down as Spider-Man.
The whole notion of Cap training Peter never got off the ground, as Peter was killed, and seeing Cap and Miles together at the end of this issue, maybe we will get to see how Cap would have treated Peter; training a child to do what Cap has always felt was a man's job. Of course, maybe we'll also see Miles take the old man out of Steve Rodgers. I have always like Ultimate Captain America, but he has always been to stuffy. He could use some good one-liners.
Of course, the biggest thing we get to see here, is Miles finally getting web-shooters. Everyone has thought that Nick Fury or Tony Stark would give him the hook-up, but to see the old box that Peter used to keep them in, and handed over by Aunt May, I think we see the passing of the torch. For the first time, Miles is THE Spider-man now. When May tells him, "don't do what Peter would do, do what Miles would do," they are giving him their blessing.
This issue is the best of the series so far, and I hope that Miles continues a relationship with May and the gang. Ganke is just not the compelling of a confidant.
