    Current Events

After traveling back in time with a number of his teammates from the Legion of Superheroes, the remainder of the team (referred to as Legion Lost out of continuity) is on the trail of Alastor who threatens to release a virus which can destroy all of mankind. After nearly stopping him in Minnesota the team travels to New York City in their continued attempt to track him. Tyroc will now have to fight in a battle with an army of Harvest's minions. Windstorm of the Ravagers managed to knock him out before the rest of his team was attacked by others and Psykill unleashed a psionic wave of energy to knock them out. They were then put through the Culling and managed to acquire a time bubble with which they tried to return home. However, they found their home time in ruin and Tyroc suspected that it was related to some prophecy. They returned to modern times and New York City where Timber Wolf was shot by the Metamericans. Tyroc confronted the group alongside Chameleon Girl, but they were both subdued and knocked unconscious.

    Origin

    Tyroc
    Tyroc

Tyroc first discovered his abilities while saving his playmates from an approaching demon from neighboring dimensional space. Tyroc's home of Marzal was like the fabled Brigadoon, a piece of land which vanished from Earth to another dimension for extended periods of time. Marzal would spend several years on Earth as an island off the coast of Africa before vanishing for several more years, only to reappear again. As he became an adult, Tyroc served as his people's champion being the only one with powers to help ward off visitors and other trespassers. Troy took the name Tyroc as it fit his sonic scream abilities, being a Marzalian translation of "Scream of the Devil."

    Creation

Tyroc was created by writer Cary Bates and artist Mike Grell. He was the first Legionnaire to be of African descent.

During a period of time that Marzal had returned to Earth, Tyroc met several Legionnaires who were responding to an emergency on the island. Tyroc was initially unwilling to let the Legionnaires help, but eventually he was able to work out his differences with the newcomers and together they were able to save Troy's homeland. The Legion was very impressed with his power-set and offered Tyroc membership to their team. Tyroc declined the offer, even though he was fond of the Legion's open-mindedness and bravery. After another encounter with the Legionnaires, Tyroc ultimately accepted and joined the Legion of Super-Heroes.

    Troy Stewart (Five Years Later)

In the retconned Five Years Later continuity, Marzal was eventually destroyed with Tyroc surviving on Earth. He went on to join Jacques Foccart's cell of Earth resistance to the Dominion. When Jacques was elected President of Earth after the Dominion was defeated, Troy became his Vice President. Jacques would shortly thereafter resign following Earth's destruction, leaving President Stewart in charge of New Earth. He vanished during the Zero Hour event which ended that continuity during a crucial effort to ward off the time fluctuations.

Years later, following Earth Man's Justice League and the reformation of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Tyroc and presumably Marzal have returned off-panel to Earth's dimension. Tyroc has rejoined the Legion and has displayed a more refined as well as boisterous control over his sonic scream.

He often spent lengthy stints of time back home on Marzal Island to protect it, causing several Legionnaires to feel he was neglecting his duties as an active member. Soon there after, Tyroc resigned from the team and ended his short tenure as a Legionnaire. He gave no explanation before vanishing to his home, causing the confusion of many Legionnaires. Dawnstar and Shadow Lass went to Marzal to investigate, only to find Tyroc furious with them. They had stumbled upon Marzal's soil just as the island left Earth and its dimension for an undisclosed amount of years. Using his sonic powers and working together one last time, the Legionnaires were eventually able to blaze a trail home with Dawnstar leading the way. The Legion ladies encouraged Tyroc to come back with them to Earth, but he refused and faded with Marzal.

    Sonic Scream

Tyroc possesses a sonic scream; the pitch, volume, and words of his scream could initially vary to produce a variety of different effects. Abilities Tyroc manifested with his scream included teleportation, pyrokinesis, and wind manipulation. His range and extent of his abilities were ill-defined and very expansive. More recent depictions have shown Tyroc with a more straightforward, concussive sonic scream with additional echolocation abilities.

    Legion Flight Ring
    Legion Flight Ring

As a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Tyroc possesses a Legion Flight Ring. The ring gives its wearer the ability to fly, the speed and range of which is determined by the wearer's willpower. It also acts as a long-range communicator (enabling constant vocal contact with other Legionnaires, even across vast distances of space), a signal device, and a navigational compass, all powered by a micro-computer built inside the ring.

Tyroc (Superman & the Legion of Super-Heroes)

Tyroc was a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 2006 Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes animated series. His first appearance was a small cameo at the end of "Timber Wolf." He continually appears in the background throughout the two seasons of the cartoon, notably aiding the Legion to fight off Starfinger's demon bunnies in "The Substitutes" and Brainiac in "Dark Victory." Tyroc appeared, still as a background character, in the accompanying Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century comic book series.

In the episode "In the Beginning," Tyroc is depicted in a flashback as being one of the initial dozen young members of Legionnaires. This is different compared to his comic counterpart who joined much later as an adult.
