    Tyrak the Treacherous
    Tyrak the Treacherous

Tyrak is the member of the aquatic race known as Homo Mermanus who was serving as a spy for the would-be Atlantean conqueror, Attuma. Tyrak underwent a variety of surgical procedures which enhanced his physical prowess and allowed him to increase his size and mass. As part of a plan on Attuma's part, Tyrak infilitrated the Avengers by disguising himself as the Inhuman known as Triton. However, the Scarlet Witch realized Triton was an imposter and used a hex sphere to reveal Tyrak underneath the green exo-skeleton. Tyrak would corner the Scarlet Witch and use his sleep-spray to keep her silent. Some Avengers including Iron Man, Captain America, Beast, Wasp and Yellowjacket come to her aid but Tyrak the Treacherous single-handedly defeats them. The Beast manages to escape while the rest of the fallen Avengers are taken captive by Tyrak and Attuma. The Beast would get some some help from Wonder Man, the Whizzer and Namor and together they free the rest of the Avengers. The Avengers eventually defeat Tyrak and foil Attuma's plan of world domination.

    Creation

Tyrak was created by Gerry Conway and George Perez in 1976 and first appeared in The Avengers # 154.

    Story Arcs

Tyrak would reappear sometime later and start causing havoc at the New York Harbor. He wishes to reclaim his honor and pride by slaying the Avengers who fell him during his service to Attuma. Tyrak puts up a vicious fight with the Avengers but is defeated when the Vision uses his thermo-optic beams to dehydrate the Atlantean warrior and suck the moisture from his pores. The Avengers realize Tyrak would die from the severe dehydration so Wonder Man tosses him back into the ocean. Years later, Tyrak would reach the Avenger's hydrobase and activate the island's perimeter security alarm. Tyrak wades towards the beach and comes across the stunulator cannons which fires a stream of nerve blasts but the treacherous one is unfaded and smashes them with one kick. Tyrak comes face to face with the Black Knight and the rest of the Avengers. Tyrak begins to fall in battle when the Black Knight slices his armor and severely damage his water containment reservoir. Ms. Marvel weakens him with an infrared heat blast and She Hulk knocks him out with a powerful punch. Tyrak was detained inside the bases's oceanographic labs and revealed to the Avengers that he was only seeking out to defeat Namor so he could regain favor with Attuma and become part of his new Atlantean order.

    Atlantis Attacks

Attuma would later employ Tyrak as one of his lieutenants during Atlantis Attacks alongside U-Man, Lord Arno and Krang. The Deviant warlord, Ghaur and Llyra recreated the Serpent Crown in hopes to physically manifest Set on Earth. Ghaur had Attuma lead the attack on the surface world and each lieutenant led a military force to four specific targets. Tyrak led the assault at the Langley Air Force Base in Virginia and was opposed by members of the Avengers which included Wonder Man, Jim Hammond, the Hulk, Sersi and the Scarlet Witch. Tyrak drew power from a base generator to increase his size and stature during the fight. Jim Hammond would destroy Tyrak's power source and he reverted back to normal size. Tyrak would be taken down by Wonder Man and his strike force was defeated.

    The Crossing Line

Tyrak and some of his fellow Atlanteans would once again come into conflict with the Avengers, Alpha Flight and the People's Proctorate over a stolen nuclear submarine called the Waterwind that strayed into Atlantean sovereign waters.

    Fear Itself: The Deep

Attuma has become one of the Worthy and is transformed into Nerkkod, Breaker of Oceans after he comes into possession of one of the mystic hammers. Nerkkod destroys New Atlantis and Namor is forced to retreat. Tyrak, Tiger Shark and Aradnea are Nerkkod's generals who are ordered to watch over the prisoners of New Atlantis and prepare for Namor's return to liberate his people. A race of undersea demons called the Undying Ones are unleashed and they begin to possess the citizens of Atlantis so Namor gathers a team consisting of Lyra, Dr. Strange, Loa and the Silver Surfer to help protect his kingdom. The leader of the Undying Ones called the Nameless One would make a deal with Nerkkod's generals and grant them more power. Tyrak attempts to assassinate the Silver Surfer as he disguises himself as Loa but the Surfer's power cosmic allows him to see through the deception. Tyrak reveals his true form and increases his size and mass as he attacks but gets blasted in the face by the Silver Surfer.
