Mundane Writing
Shockwave arrives on Earth and teams up with Starscream to go after Sam Witwicky who is protecting a Decepticon who switched sides after he downloaded some data. Megatron has plans of his own he's setting into motion.
My Thoughts:
This comic basically serves as a prequel to the upcoming Transformers movie. The story is written by John Barber. There's nothing really captivating about it at all. In fact it's quite mundane, even more so then a lot of the writing in the Transformers movies. There's a lot of horrible dialogue that just comes off annoying.
Another thing I didn't like was the dialogue between Sam and his new love interest Carly. Again the dialogue was just so awful, it lacked any realism to it. With a bunch of giant robots jumping around blowing things up, there's going to be a certain amount of fear overcoming people. This Carly character was acting as if the Transformers weren't even there. It wasn't just the lack of fear but the incredibly bland and cheesy dialogue between the two that ruined it. Hopefully in the upcoming movie they wont be interacting with each other like this.
The artwork is probably the best thing about this comic. It's done by Carlos Magno. I really liked the coloring. It was bright and vibrant. Only thing I didn't like, was at times it was hard to tell characters apart. The art gallery at the end was really nice.
I wouldn't really recommend reading this. It's not essential at all. Hopefully the upcoming movie will far exceed the quality of this comic. To enjoy this comic, you simply have to take it for what it is. There's nothing thought-provoking about it. It was simply designed to promote the movie and try to cash in on the franchise.
