Toro
Toro is a comic book character that first appeared in The Human Torch #2Golden age character, kid sidekick to Human Torch (Jim Hammond).
A hero pre-WW2, his mutant powers manifested at the circus where he worked. The Human Torch (Hammond) descovered him and trained him in using his powers, and he eventually gained the ability to 'flame on' and throw fireballs.
Toro would join the Invaders along with his mentor the Human Torch.
He also joined the team 'Young allies' during the war, and they battled the Nazis. His co-hero was Bucky, Captain America's sidekick (he died in a plane explosion). Bucky had enhanced strength, resistance and agility. He was also trained in armed and unarmed combat. Being close in age, Toro and Bucky would become close friends.
When he returned to his duties with the Torch, his powers grew steadily, but because he was just a beginner, it was just like having one-and-a-half Human Torches.
Toro died while trying to stop the Mad Thinker. Thinker enslaved Toro with one of his gadgets and forced him to battle Namor. During the battle the gadget was destroyed, leaving Toro furious. He pursued the now fleeing Thinker and crashed his escape plane. Sadly Toro died in the crash. The Mad Thinker escaped with the help of a teleportation device.
Toro was resurrected prior to the Secret Invasion by Arkus, the original Vision.Toro's activities during the Secret Invasion and afterwards remain unrevealed.
