Good Enough
Tor's saga continues in 'Underworld', the third part of Joe Kubert's 'Prehistoric Odyssey'. And like it's namesake, the Homeric tale, Tor's journey seems to take him from encounter-to-encounter of strange creatures and people. But unlike The Odyssey, the hero does not have an ultimate goal, somewhere he is trying to get to - so by this midpoint of the story, one begins to question, 'what's the point of it all?'
Kubert's art runs the range from adequate to great, and there's something wonderful about a story told with no dialog (the whole series is by narration). But in the end it's starting to seem like a routine adventure story - a polished one, but a standard one nonetheless. As this is being looked at by many as Kubert's crowning achievement & possibly his swan song, I'd hoped for better.
Let's see if it turns around and meets or exceeds expectations in the second half.
