Thomas Kalmaku is a good friend of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern.

The Guardian Herupa Hando Hu and the Zamaron Nadia Safir came to Earth to find ten people to propel the planet into the new millennium. Thomas was the ninth to be visited by Herupa and Nadia. Just like all of the chosen, Herupa and Nadia told him in their language: “We have chosen ten people on Earth to advance the human race, and one of the ten is you! The heroes and heroines of Earth, join us in asking you to leave this life and enter the future!” However, Thomas did not want to help them because it meant leaving his family, so he kindly refused their offering.

Nicknamed "Pieface", Thomas often accompanied Hal Jordan during his many silver-age adventures.
