    Origin

In the far flung future, mythology student Jama Renuka foresees an approaching cataclysm that threatens to destroy the entire asteroid colony where she lives.  To counter this threat,  she recruits several of the inhabitants of this colony who all possess extraordinary abilities to defeat this deadly threat and save the day.

    Creation

Originally slated to be part of the DC Universe's 1996 Annual Series known as "Legends of the Dead Earths".  The concept was to take familiar heroes into a futuristic Elseworld settings:

"Earth is dead. Those who once might have called it home are long scattered to the endless stars. But in that scattering, on a thousand different worlds, by a thousand different ways... Earth's greatest legends live on."

Although Earth and it's heroes have died, their heroic legacies still live on to inspire others to take up their mantles.  For the Titans Annual, Adam Warren was chosen to write and draw it but reputedly, the editors were so taken with it; that they felt it was too good to be a mere annual and expanded it into a deluxe comic format.
