Together Again...
I've got some serious mixed feelings about this issue.
I love the Titans, the classic ones at least and the new Teen Titans of the 21st century. I wasn't really a fan in the late 90's, they just seemed to be TRYING to screw the team up then.
I'm really happy that the classic crew is back again, but at the same time this wasn't a very good read at all. The story was "ok". I liked the part where the sons of Trigon stole what power was left in their father instead of allowing him into the world. And, unfortunately, that was was deterred when it was revealed they only did that because they were infused with greed by Raven. They were EVIL, they didn't need any more motivation to steal Trigon's power other than that! *sigh*
The art was... well I used to like Joe Benitez' art in the 90's when he was working with Top Cow. It was primo stuff back then. I'm not saying that it's horrible right now, but it's just not my style. I understand that artists are compelled to keep evolving their styles and work and I completely respect that, but this has just evolved into something that I don't really care for. A lot of it really looks too cartoony for me, and there seems to be a lot of emphasis on the sexiness of the women. Don't get me wrong, I likes me some women, but it seems like they're trying to use that to distract you away from the bad story. Makes me think of Star Trek: Voyager when they brought on Seven of Nine and made Jeri Ryan walk around in a skin tight leotard all the time. It seemed like they were trying to use that to distract you away from the bad writing of the show. That's what I feel is going on here.
Until next time...
