Moving forwards
Well, theres something we havent seen in a while; Slade Wilson getting his rear handed to him. That earns two stars from me from the very beginning, because Slade is one of DC characters that's been in need of a proper mauling ever since he walked all over the JLA back in the Infinite Crisis. However, the shock of the extent of the mauling was lost a week or so before the issue came out, with it having been given away on the cover, so someone at DC's marketing department apparently doesnt know about suspense or shock.
Anyways, this issue takes the motley crew to the sunbaked south pacific and more specifically; in hunt of the enigmatic Drago, presumably in search of another component of Slade's grand scheme. However Osiris stays at hom to tend to his ressurected sister, who appears to be suffering 'slight' side effects of Osiris' way for bringing her back and i say slight the same way i would say the Joker is 'slightly' crazy. All which leaves Slade, Arsenal, Chesire and Cinder to storm the enemy compund.
SPOILERS BELOW.
Good stuff:
Isis is not happy about what her brother has been doing in her name, also it appears there is someone else with her inside her head, this could prove interesting down the line.
Slade get's stabbed in the back and beaten unconcious by Roy and Chesire, presonally i would have preferred Dick Grayson and the real Titans doing it, but I'll take what i can get.
Mr. Palmer visits the mummy that used to be Dwarfstar before he met Giganta, and baits Slades name out of him, so the JLA/Titans may not be that far behind.
Mediocre stuff:
Main plot....A recurring complaint from me, that it's vague overall. Contained within this issue however...it's a bit predicterble that Slade is going to bust loose sooner or later because of some scheme he set up before getting captured, or he really believed they could pull it off against the odds.
Bad stuff:
I've said it before and I'll say it again; the art. It's objective if you like any given piece of art or not, and i dont like this, its the lack of clear lines that does it in some shots.
I cant help but wonder if they are aiming for the same people who enjoy movies like Evil Dead and such, because gore it present by the spades and some humor being added to it when you can see Roy stab one guy in the groin with a staff/spear while catapulting another man over him, also by the groin...oh and Cinder getting taken down by a pair of fire extinguishers.
Roy defies his heroin addiction and acts like a clean person, by this he defies it that heroin is more of a 'relaxing' drug rather than something that makes him jump around. Also he claims he's 'comming down' in the middle of the fight and it sucks.
