Donnas Night Out
I have always wondered about the treatment Donna Troy has been given over the years. On one hand she is usually written very blandly. Like the Mickey Mouse of the Teen Titans. Very noble with a matriarchal streak in her. Yet the reactions to her by her peers has always been one of great respect and sometimes awe. On the other hand, because writers do not know what to do with her ( at least since Marv Wolfman ) so whenever there is grave danger she is the first to be put in front of the bullet. She is typically DC Universes Jean Grey.
Thankfullly, Mike Johnson has an idea of how to treat her also. With this knowledge he crafts a very mature story ( at least the first part ) that shows a single woman out trying to enjoy herself at a party. Mind you she is a single woman whose life choices has seperated her from most of the regular world.
It doesn't take long however for the story to breakdown into a superhero fight. I normally would not mind this, but Donna takes on and takes out the new " Fearsome Five without any trouble at all. This basically negates any story they might use this team for in the future. Now if they show up, the rest of the Titans know they can just go off and play some Canasta while Donna mops up. I can't fault the book too much however. It has been my favorite of these single issue , single character books that we have been getting recently. Easily worth the money.
