Thunderstrike
Character » Thunderstrike appears in 361 issues.
Eric Masterson was an architect who became the successor to the Mighty Thor before adopting his own identity as Thunderstrike. As both a replacement Thor and his own hero, Thunderstrike was one of Earth's greatest defenders and a powerful member of the Avengers.
Off My Mind: Who is the New Thunderstrike?
With a new Thunderstrike mini-series coming, who will be the new Thunderstrike? In the preview pages it appears that Eric Masterson could be back. When Masterson died, Odin offered him the chance to reside in Valhalla with other fallen warriors. Masterson didn't want this and was allowed to rest in peace normally. It would seem that the essence of the hero Thunderstrike has returned, but most likely Masterson has not.
Solicits for issues 2 and 3 mention "the man who would be Thunderstrike" and that he's trying to "avoid the fate of the last Thunderstrike." This clearly indicates that it's not Masterson.
If it's not Eric Masterson, there's really only two choices who the new Thunderstrike could be.

In the MC2 universe, Eric's son, Kevin, was given the mace by Jarvis. Obviously Marvel does not have to follow or set things up for the MC2 universe so this could happen differently than what we've seen of Kevin's adventures with A-Next.
There's also the question of how old is Kevin in today's continuity. Eric Masterson died in 1995 and Kevin was still a kid. It's possible we could have a Captain Marvel/Shazam type thing with a young kid being able to turn into Thunderstrike. The cover almost looks like it could be a kid standing in front of the mace. Honestly, I don't see this happening.
What's the other obvious choice? I think it's just going to be a new character. Someone else that is "worthy" will somehow find the mace and become the new Thunderstrike. It will be interesting to find out where it was all this time. It may have disappeared when the Bloodaxe was destroyed but you would think Thor would have tried to locate it. Jarvis somehow got it in the MC2 universe and I suppose that could still happen after this current Thunderstrike is finished with it. I think we're just going to get a new character struggling with this new found power, trying to be a hero and not get killed.
We'll just have to see if he keeps the ponytail and lightning bolt earring. Do you want a new character to become Thunderstrike or an already existing one?

This is a perfect example of why Marvel filed for bankruptcy in 1997-8 because of over expanding without any game plan or good writing. While Disney will not let their cash cow go down the drain (yet) thanks to movies, I can already tell you for $4 an issue that this is not a title fans will be stretch their budget for.
Based on the speech patterns this could actually be Eric Masterson. Considering that his soul even without being into the Valhalla was till linked to Thor's and that in recent years Thor and Don Blake turned out to be two separated beings it could be that a new character found the mace only to be turned into the host of Eric's soul... as far as comic logic goes it isn't even that much of a stretch.
it think its good marketing thors very popular and so is ares and herculas plus thunderstrike could be a good part in chaos war

I agree. Unless Marvel brings the cover price down, I can see this character going the route of the last Thunderstrike. $4.00 a book is insane.
Thunderstrike is one of those characters, like Beta Ray Bill, that I just don't understand why we need to have. And I started reading comics in the era when Thunderstrike came about. It seems like a lot of these ripoff, duplicate types were made so popular characters that were busy with one story could appear in another story without having to explain how the stories fit together into a larger, universe-wide, continuity.
...That and EXTREMENESS! Which was all the rage in the early 90s. (I mean he's got a ponytail AND lightning bolt earring. How radical is THAT?!)
When I saw the picture without knowing what it's about I thought it was Amadeus Cho, doubtful though :P
"What if Rictor picked up the hammer? "
He would be..thunderstruck!?!
Tho the new hero no matter who he is comes with complete theme song for the eventual movie..
"I'm so NOT going to buy this, gimme a break with this overpriced limited series about characters not so well known to the mainstream. "
agreed
give us decently priced ongoing series about characters not so well known in the mainstream
Kevin Masterson should be as old as Stature. She was appearing in FF around the same time and was about the same age as he was, maybe a year or two older at most. I think the new Thunderstrike will be the son though, makes more sense.
well I like the CONCEPT of Thunderstrike. But I never liked Masterson or much of his arch in Thor comics themselves.
But Thor's a god...he (should at least) has bigger things to fry...so the idea of someone native to "midgard" being worthy and bestowed lower-powered powers of the God of Thunder is cool (to me.)
But I hope it's a new guy all-together...like I said, I don't like Masterson much...even if I did like Thunderstrike's concept.
I find it weird they'd just be bringing back the character without having another main-line story arc to hint at the return.
I'm fairly indifferent to this mini-series. I always liked the idea of other characters possessing similar powers to Thor, but Thunderstrike always seemed kinda lame.
Its like every marvel character is multiplying.
Iron Man: War machine, Petty Pott's Iron armor.
Hulk: Red Hulk, She Hulk, Samson, A-Bomb, Red She-Hulk, Thundra She Hulk, and I think theres more.
Spider-Man: Arana, Spider-Woman, Venom, Anti-Venom
Captain America: Bucky
Thor: Beta Ray Bill, Thunderstrike, Valkyrie,
I think it'd be more interesting if the new Thunderstrike was not so heroic. Ask the moral dilemma inherent to godhood: What god has ever actually been omnibenevolent? Every one I can think of including those still worshiped today are more than a little self serving, even when considered 'merciful'.
" I'm so NOT going to buy this, gimme a break with this overpriced limited series about characters not so well known to the mainstream. "I always liked Thunderstrike, (have every issue of the original series and all the Thor comics which led up to it), and even I agree with you. This series does not need to exist.
I have to agree with Aiden Cross, but i don't think its doubtful. To me it seems fairly obvious that it would be Amadeus Cho. Cho has shown Thor and others that he can be a hero by taking up Hercs mantle while he was away. I think it would make sense to use an existing character that some people are already invested in. Could be an interesting character if done right.
Is there still a Donald Blake? Whats he up to lately?
Does Thor stay Thor all the time now?
If so, maybe Donald Blake becomes the new Thunderstrike.
I expect it will turn out to be Kevin, which would be a good choice. It does look, though, from the previews for January, like TStrike has a new mohawk with Executioner-style lightning bolt tattoos look. I wonder if that means he's retaining some semblance of the Bloodaxe powers.

Don't forget: Iron Lad, Hulkling, Wiccan, Patriot (Isaiah & Ely), Scarlet Spider, Skaar, Thor-Girl and USAgent.
Even after listing these, I still feel as though I've forgotten some other spin-offs.
" You guys are all stupid. This is obviously going to be a new Wolverine title. "lol
