It looks like the 80s cartoon hit list will soon be able to add Thundercats.  It's clear that anything produced back then is fair game for Hollywood.  It always puts you in an awkward position.  The nostalgic part of you rejoices at the possibility of seeing a cartoon from your childhood adapted with today's...technology.  The scary part is these attempts often fail.

What can be said about Thundercats.  Would Thundercats work as a movie?  Would it work as a live action film?  Movieline managed to get some of Thundercats Director Jerry O'Flaherty's concept art (the script will be written by Paul Sopocy).  What are your thoughts?

Did you ever see the 'fan-made' trailer?  (First posted HERE).  Could this movie be as good or better than this?

God.  Yes and NO.  I don't know what to say about the possibility of a THUNDERCATS live-action movie.  Part of me says GO FOR IT but another part realizes---it would probably be what you'd find in a kitty litter pan.   Would it be the cat's meow?   Gives me cat scratch fever.  Oh, the pain.   They'd probably do the live action stuff but with a CGI SNARF.  SNARF is full of suckage and a CGI SNARF would be even worse.   Decept-O thinks Lion-O is Lame-O.

One of the better cartoon theme songs, sticks in your head.  All these years later.  *sigh*

This doesn't look that good. I think the most annoying sound in the entire history of cartoons is "SHNARF!" from Shnarf (if that's how you spell his name).
The Thundercats in that were Wolverine, Garfield, Brad Pitt's role in Troy, Riddick and Storm I think. I must admit, as cheesy as the film sounds, the trailer was very realistic. BRAVO!

I don't hate it yet...but I will reserve judgment until at least a trailer so that I can get a feel for the movie. This is one franchise that I would not want to stick too closely to it's source material.Lion-O's original costume is second only to that of Prince Adam of Eternia in it's "fabulousness".

This concept art captures the mix of SciFi and fantasy that is Thundercats nicely.
I like Shnarf. What we should worry about is the  Robear Burbles, and their candy farms.

yeah, it is. but i dont think this movie would be all that bad. they've done a live action ninja turtles movie and even made another movie after that that was all cgi why wouldnt they be able to do this as a cgi or a live action movie.

Please God NO!  Let's face it most of these animated series from the 80s were terrible.  Even when I was kid watching them I thought they were pretty weak and the years have not aged them well.  G.I. Joe, Transformers, etc. work best tongue and cheek but not as an actual movie.  Transformers was unwatchable and its safe to assume the same will be true of G.I. Joe and this film if it sees the light of day.

The real show stopper on this one is that Thundercats simply lacks the name recognition to be a big budget film.  If it gets made it will go straight to video.  Sadly that didn't happen to the other films in these segment.

I'm a LONG time fan of Thunder Cats. This is something I could probably get into, but I see no need to make it live action. I'd prefer more of a computer generated series the way they created Star Wars Clone Wars series.

Are the artists behind Gears of War still attached to this? Anyway I would be excited to see this. G.I. Joe and Transformers were a little before my time but they were still playing the reruns of Thundercats on Toonami when I was a kid so I'd know I'd feel five years old seeing this again. Hope it is CG rather than live action the could do a lot more with it in terms of scope.

LOL.  There have only been two movies I walked out on because the film was just too dumb to watch and Transformers was one of them.  Honestly, I really don't see even a shred of readability in that flick.  Why they have made so much money has me as puzzled as to how the last three Star Wars films did the bank they did.   I think I would rather sit in a dark room for 2 or 3 hours than watch any of those films every again.

Here is a another big indicator of why this is a really BAD idea.  Unlike a good comic book or good animated series, what is story arch, theme, meaning or characters is there in Thundercats to mine?  Really if you can't put your finger on its because the fiction is so thin.  You don't even have a memorable voice like Optimus Prime.  Let's face it the voice acting Thundercats sounded like the voice actors were instructed to talk like retard, in slow motion taking a dump.  Boy doesn't that convey pathos!

Instead of mining a third rate cartoon I would rather see an original IP.

I never watched Thundercats. Or G. I. Joe. I only saw, maybe, one episode of Masters of the Universe. I was more into Battle of the Planets. Voltron seemed more of a weaker rehash of that. I liked the live action Transformers. Not really sure about G. I. Joe. We'll see. I probably wouldn't see Thundercats in the theatre. That would be a Netflix pick. Yeah, definitely a Netflix pick.

Looks good so long as it's an all-CGI movie. Trying to do that live action would just spell disaster, although it would be the biggest movie in history for Furries everywhere!

I was never as much into Thundercats as GIJoe, but it's got a HUGE fanship and potential and I can definitely see a big live-action treatment. He-Man, She-Ra and TMNT have already been adapted to live-action, in the eighties and nineties, so go for it!!

It wasn't Stom that they used it was Chiana from Farscape that they used for Cheetara.  Gah, I haven't seen that cartoon in years.  I used to watch it religiously, that and Robotech during that time frame.  So, I would definetely be interested in giving this a try.

As for Transformers, I couldn't get into the first one so I didn't even bother with the second one.  I'm still pretty questionable about the GI Joe movie coming out, but I'll give it a chance because I want them to succeed.  Even though, of late most of the movies this year have been a failure in my mind.

What sucks about these 80's remakes is how they change things for no good reason. Don't get me wrong, I understand some things must change, that's why its an ADAPTATION. However, when they made Transformers all goofy and filled with humans, it was like they didn't believe in the source material. There were a handful of forgettable bots (with the exception of Optimus, Bee and Megatron.) and an whole slew of humans I cared nothing about. Why did we need the hacker kids? The goofy FBI guy? Why did we need the military guys sidestory? What I'm saying is WHERE WERE THE TRANSFORMERS?!?!? Cause that's what I came to see!  All you needed was Sam, his family and Megan Fox for the human characters. (And don't get me started on the Autobots "sneaking" around Sam's backyard.) I know they want to appeal to the masses, but they always go too far. How about just make a good movie, ppl will still come to see it. I also gotta say, if I was an African American I would be upset about the bogus, stereotypical black character that gets thrown into everyone of these things with no regards to character development or anything. They turned Jazz into some throwaway, yo, yo waz up character. When he could have been a strong supporting presence. I haven't seen the sequel but I hear there are brother cars (a la Sideswipe and Sunstreaker) that are worse. I haven't seen G.I. Joe but a Wayne's brother (and not one of the good, funny ones) plays Ripcord, and from what little I've seen he is the stereotypical, yo yo sup B, buffoon. I may be mistaken but I believe Ripcord was originally a white character. What was wrong with the established existing African American characters? What about Stalker? What about (one of my personal favs back in the day) Roadblock? Needless to say I'm very afraid for Panthro. What I'm saying is, stop changing things just for the sake of changing it. If it ain't broke, don't monkey around with it! I just don't understand why every movie that comes out today has to be watered down for the masses. I say instead of assuming the majority of ppl are stupid and making the movie for them, make it for the intelligent and for the fans and raise everyone else up instead of bringing us all down.
